Im from the U.S and normally would bring some money in czech currency. Normally I would get the rest from ATM machines. Any issues with that? Or better to bring your own currency and exchange at the places you recommend? Thanks for the great info. Plan to go Spring 2019.
tor tom (26 days ago)
Robert, I think it's better to bring US cash with you. As mentioned several times, the best exchanges (I was in Prague in Nov 2018) are on Jindřišská just of Václavské náměstí. Sometimes at Mango is a lineup, but next door is almost same rate. Kaprova Str. Exchange, on the Old Town square is still pretty good.

Oh how I wished I watched your video before my son and I went to Prague last Oct 20-24 then I would have saved my 1,000 Czk. I changed €200 at the train station upon arriving from Munich as we were taking the taxi. We're a bit tired and just wanted to reach the hotel and wasn't really concentrating on the money though I counted it and instead of 4,000 something I got only 3,000 something. I didn't bother to ask not even realizing how much the 1,000 Czk to $ or €. Holy cow to my dismay I found out the following day that that was $45 commission. How the hell is this being allowed. I felt cheated and was furious. Even the taxi driver charged us 50CZK more. Thanks to our honest guide Jena who recommended the best exchange place and like you advised us to ask "how much I will het with this amount". Still couldn't get over the $45 commission. I felt like I was cheated. Other than this we had actually enjoyed our stay and plan to come back. Thank you.

Why does the Oanda currency site say that the Czech Crown is obsolete?

That's the old Czechoslovak crown. The Czech crown is just above it in the drop-down menu.

Heya, I love your vids, question about changing money on the street, you often state that you get belarussian rubles, but the Web says the rate is 2.4 bel rubles to 1€ which makes it more valuable than crowns, do you mean Russian rubles? That is still like only 75 to 1, which is Crap, but not 'worth almost nothing' did Belarus recently have a change with the Evaluation of their Bills? Edit: Okay it seems to be the old money from before july 2016 when they reevaluated money due to Inflation. Are these bills still usable at all?

abbie (3 months ago)
What about withdrawing from an ATM? I think it´s quite likely that a lot of people have cards with which they can withdraw money for free from within the EU. It should be perfectly fine to get cash from one of the ATMs of the bigger banks, or am I missing something? Not talking about those ¨euro-something¨ branded ATMs which have their own fee though!

tor tom (3 months ago)
Janek, may be you should mention that banks are not good place for foreign exchange. Few years ago I found the best exchange place on Narodni in Passage Metro.
tor tom (2 months ago)
+SantomPh the best exchanges are on Jindriska, near Wenceslas Square. There are 3 places close together and the rates are very close. I always took one with smallest line up.

I can give you a big advice. Please, don’t come to Prague!!! I was in Prague in this summer, and it was bad idea. Prague looks like russian city. I didn’t feel my myself, like i’m in Europe.

Justin Gonzalez (3 months ago)
Also... You could just go to an atm with your debit card. You get charged from your bank and the atm but usually that totals at around $5 or $6 in my experience traveling. And you get the exact exchange rate
Justin Gonzalez (2 months ago)
+SantomPh you get the exact exchange rate. That's a pretty good rate. You just gotta pay the atm fee. Its the same thing here at home if you use a non bank atm. There's no difference
SantomPh (2 months ago)
The rates for ATM transactions are not that good.

It is a very useful vlog. One year ago I was in Prague but I was very disappointed because I payed 28% tax in one of the exchange place. The guy from it said that is the rule in hole Prague. Anyway it is a beautiful city, and I am going to visit it in this year in autumn. Thanks for the tips.
