FILM DESCRIPTION: Lauren Weisberger's best-selling novel about a young woman who stumbles into the hectic worlds of high fashion and publishing comes to the big screen in this comedy. Andrea "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) is a bright young woman from the Midwest who has just graduated from college and wants to work as a magazine writer. Andy has applied for a job at "Runway," America's most prestigious fashion journal; though Andy has little to no interest in the garment trade, they are one of the only magazines in New York with a job opening -- second assistant to editor Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep). As Andy quickly learns, Miranda is a diva with plenty of power within the magazine business and she isn't afraid to use it, and though Andy lands the job (primarily by being in the right place at the right time), she soon learns that working for Miranda could test the patience of a saint thanks to her endless demands and refusal to acknowledge the end of a work day. Andy struggles to hold on to the job and her sanity, knowing that a recommendation from Miranda can open nearly any door at any magazine, but can she handle the pressure without losing her mind along the way? The Devil Wears Prada also stars Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, and Adrian Grenier. The worst thing is that those belt-buckles are indeed so different. It's bewildering to me how a person can make such an effort not to care about their job.

So much charisma and knowledge. Gotta respect her!

I think what bugs people the most about that statement is when she said it was picked by the people in that room, thereby almost taking out your independence in choosing. If that’s true then individuality is null and void if someone else already picked it as she stated. Kind of falls in line with the whole I choose my path vs destiny.

You're not alone Andy. I see stuff all the time that look alike and girls are fretting which ones to choose...in my head I'm like "these are all the SAAAAME".

What is clear to a person outside the fashion industry is that people working in it have lost themselves so they may become a follower of the most shallow expressions of the human experience. To be a slave to fashion is to be a slave. No amount of high fashion can out style the ugliness of that.

Andy honestly annoyed me in the beginning of the movie. All she did was mock her job and the industry she clearly didn't want to be there at first so how could she expect Miranda and everyone else to be nice to her or take her seriously. There's a lot more that goes into working in the fashion industry than we think
mikah ong (2 months ago)
Andy thought she was too good for not just this job but the entire fashion industry right from the start, she needed to be taught a lesson. i personally do not know much about a lot of industries that i dont choose to be part of, but i still respect them. i respect the people who work there and are passionate about it unless they do show a snobbish arrogant side to me. and even then, i would just dislike the person itself, not their industry.

That tutu and that jacket is ugly as f***
this proves how excellent or a businesswoman Miranda Priestly was, not just somebody in a high position with no attachment to the real world.

I didn’t know the wicked witch used to work for cruella no wonder she’s wicked 😂😂😂
Diane Berg (3 months ago)
Andy could have pointed out that at one point Miranda calls it an ugly sweater but then says she “selected it” for her If she takes her art so seriously then she needs to stop promoting shitty clothes than don’t fit most of the population
junior rose (3 months ago)
Well she's saying the trend/colour is long over now but Andy choosing to buy it means that she's just as influenced by higher fashion, she just has no understanding of what a fashion trend is or how far it reaches. And she's not trying to learn at this point, which obviously would piss off the person paying her when she could've hired someone who lives and breathes fashion instead.

I was about to say that this performance should have been Streep’s third Oscar, but then I researched and saw that Helen Mirren won that year for “The Queen.” Definitely the right call, but still...what an iconic role for Streep.
Rita Wing (3 months ago)
Of course, Andy is right, it's a tribute to the Miranda actress that she can deliver herself of this drivel with such conviction.
junior rose (3 months ago)
Uh...that's Meryl Streep. You should know who Meryl Streep is as much as Andy should've known who Miranda is.

It is hilarious to me how many of the comments on here are of people who think they are Miranda aka Anna Wintour. STFU the scene is good, we do not need your "expertise" on fashion. you have none.

The BEST!!!!!!!!!

The monologue is perfection, but what I love most about this scene is that she just casually continues on with her expert selections and opinions of what is needed to complete the look, while delivering the monologue. Something so critical as to need her guidance and she just breezes through it multi-tasking.

This is my reply to everyone who thinks fashion is unimportant, stupid or vapid.
Subhanu Khanal (4 months ago)
What Miranda said was beside the point. The belts were remarkably similar. I would say she digressed a lot there. But I can see how Andy could not respond as the power dynamic was heavily skewed against her with she being the employee and Miranda being the head. Evolution in fashion is the result of freedom and creativity. This scene, however, takes viewers away from that democratic notion and provides a false sense that there is a tiny panel of individuals responsible for fashion trends and their metamorphosis over time.
junior rose (3 months ago)
False? Do you have any idea how influential Anna Wintour is?
Heather Mitchell (4 months ago)
God why is Merril Streep so beast
Baranina123 (4 months ago)
Yes, because it is so important to wear something what is new in week 34. all people will wear it in week 39, but will be in bin in week 48 just right before christmas sell. For me this is bullshit.

people like Miranda act that way because they actually hate their lives. It's easy to act like you are having a wonderful time when you have money and success. I once had a similar boss, he wanted me to be like him. I had lots of great successes doing my job, the way I see fit and while others loved and admired me he will often rain on my parade. After sometime I left my job because I just could not stand it anymore. Few years after, he calls me and offers me to come back with a huge raise. I gave him a piece of my mind. That was the best day of my life.I am glad the movie ended the way it did. Never sell your sold to the devil. There is nothing behind the power and money of these people. It's empty. They love hell and they give hell. They are in hell.
Pradeep Balakrishnan (4 months ago)
Miranda breaks down in a scene, she back stabs, makes life miserable for others. If you think that's what happy people do, then even if you get twice as smart, you will still be stupid. The good news is, it will have nothing to do with your incompetence. My ex boss called me back to work for him stupid. He wouldn't have if he thought I was incompetent.Read and understand properly next time before you respond moron.
Ken MacDonald (4 months ago)
"people like Miranda act that way because they actually hate their lives" In reality, the most competent people are constantly irritated for having to be around so many incompetent people. Like you. Your incompetence is grating and it's due to laziness and entitlement. Competent people hate lazy, entitled incompetent people.

Well...that's part of what makes them different. A buckle could change the entire look.
