World's oldest intact shipwreck discovered in the Black Sea Carbon dated to 500 BC, the ship is among 72 found at the bottom of the sea and may have been depicted on an ancient vase. The world's oldest intact shipwreck has been pulled from the depths of the Black Sea after the most technologically advanced search ever. Ships that sailed during Greek and Roman times - but preserved as if they were sunk only yesterday - were salvaged from the depths of the eastern European sea as part of the Black Sea Maritime Archaeological Project. Carbon dated to 500 BC, the oldest vessel is 2,500 years old and resembles the ship depicted in the famous Siren Vase, now at the British Museum. The second oldest of the 72 vessels recovered dates back to 200 AD. Dr Kroum Batchvarov, who worked on the project, said: "We have complete vessel, with the masts still standing, with the quarter rudders in place. "It is an incredible find. The first of its kind ever." Because the Black Sea has no oxygen, the vessel has been so well preserved that even the monkfish bones, showing what Romans were eating, are intact on its deck. "We even have the coils of line, of rope still as the bosun left them in the stern when the ship went down," Dr Batchvarov added. "This is unique." The Black Sea project is a years-long scientific investigation, led by international institutions including Southampton University, exploring the way the Black Sea has changed and how this has affected human civilisation. Funded by the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, it has cost around £15m. Among the advanced technologies used by the expedition are advanced geophysical techniques that allows scientists to see what is on the sea bed and even beneath it. Remotely operated vehicles have also been used, carrying equipment to map the sea bed and taking three-dimensional images. In the past, this equipment was usually carried by boat. As well as shipwrecks, the survey has revealed a Bronze Age settlement, which is now submerged below the sea bed.

World’s oldest shipwreck discovered in Black Sea

World’s oldest shipwreck discovered in Black Sea SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Archaeologists have found what they believe to be the world’s oldest intact shipwreck at the bottom of the Black Sea where it appears to have lain undisturbed for more than 2,400 years. The 23-metre (75-foot) vessel, thought to be ancient Greek, was discovered with its mast, rudders and rowing benches all present and correct just over a mile below the surface. A lack of oxygen at that depth preserved it, the researchers said. “A ship surviving intact from the classical world, lying in over 2km of water, is something I would never have believed possible,” said Professor Jon Adams, the principal investigator with the Black Sea Maritime Archaeology Project (MAP), the team that made the find. “This will change our understanding of shipbuilding and seafaring in the ancient world.” The ship is believed to have been a trading vessel of a type that researchers say has only previously been seen “on the side of ancient Greek pottery such as the ‘Siren Vase’ in the British Museum”. That work, which dates from about the same period, depicts a similar vessel bearing Odysseus past the sirens, with the Homeric hero lashed to the mast to resist their songs. The team reportedly said they intended to leave the vessel where it was found, but added that a small piece had been carbon dated by the University of Southampton and claimed the results “confirmed [it] as the oldest intact shipwreck known to mankind”. 400-year-old shipwreck off Portugal coast called ‘discovery of decade’ The team said the data would be published at the Black Sea MAP conference at the Wellcome Collection in London later this week. It was among more than 60 shipwrecks found by the international team of maritime archaeologists, scientists and marine surveyors, which has been on a three-year mission to explore the depths of the Black Sea to gain a greater understanding of the impact of prehistoric sea-level changes... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The worlds oldest shipwreck in the Black Sea discovered By Archaeologist

[23/10, 8:44 PM] Mahaveer: The Siren Vase on display at the Siren the ancient, shows a ship with a mast identical to the one now found on the seabed [23/10, 8:46 PM] Mahaveer: The 75ft shipwreck was been found lying whole with its mast, rudders and rowing benches after more than 2,400 years. [23/10, 8:50 PM] Mahaveer: The ship lies in over 2km of water, deep in the Black Sea where the water is anoxic (oxygen free) which can preserve organic material for thousands of years. [23/10, 8:51 PM] Mahaveer: The wrecks, such as this one from the Medieval period, are astonishingly well preserved due to the anoxic conditions (absence of oxygen) of the Black Sea below 150 metres (490 ft). This trading vessel was found with the towers on the bow and stern still mostly in place [23/10, 8:53 PM] Mahaveer: Shown here is a shipwreck from the Ottoman period discovered 300 metres beneath the Black Sea. Many of the wrecks' details and locations are being kept secret by the team to ensure they remain undisturbed [23/10, 8:55 PM] Mahaveer: The researchers used two Remotely Operated Vehicles (pictured) to survey the sea bed. These have discovered a number of wrecks over a series of expeditions spanning three years, including the one pictured from the Byzantine period, found in October last year

Ancient Africans Discovered America Thousands of Years Ago

21:40
Africans had frequently sailed across the Atlantic to the Americas, thousands of years before Columbus and indeed before Christ. The great ancient civilizations of Egypt and West Africa traveled to the Americas, contributing immensely to early American civilization by importing the art of pyramid building, political systems and religious practices as well as mathematics, writing and a sophisticated calendar. The strongest evidence of African presence in America before Columbus comes from the pen of Columbus himself. In 1920, a renowned American historian and linguist, Leo Weiner of Harvard University, in his book, Africa and the discovery of America, explained how Columbus noted in his journal that Native Americans had confirmed that “black skinned people had come from the south-east in boats, trading in gold-tipped spears.” Sources: https://ancient-code.com/ https://www.globalresearch.ca http://www.ancientpages.com 💜 Subscribe and like if you enjoyed the video.

2000 Year Old Treasure Discovered in Black Sea Fortress

At the time, the kingdom's fate was torn between two brothers —Mithridates VIII, who sought independence from Rome, and his younger brother, Cotys I, who was in favor of keeping the kingdom a client state of the growing empire. The besieging Roman army was sent to support Cotys, and was busy torching settlements controlled by Mithridates, including Artezian. "We can say that these hoards were funeral sacrifices. It was obvious for the people that they were going to die shortly," stated Nikolaï Vinokurov, a professor at Moscow State Pedagogical University. Oddly, each hoard included exactly 55 coins minted by Mithridates VIII. "This is possibly just a simple coincidence, or perhaps these were equal sums received by the owners of these caskets from the supporters of Mithridates," the team wrote in its report. The city was torched by the Romans, but later rebuilt by Cotys, who was successfully enthroned by Rome, though the treasures hidden by the previous residents was never discovered.

A Byzantine ship with a cargo of amphorae has been uncovered by Russian explorers 82 metres deep in the Black Sea. According to scientists, the discovery is either a single Byzantine vessel of up to 125 metres in length or two ships lying next to each other. It is believed to be just the third such discovery of its kind in the history of Black Sea research.(Video: Ruptly.tv)

#World's_oldest_intact_shipwreck discovered in #Black_Sea mile deep waters off #Bulgarian_coast This #ancient_Greek #vessel, described as the world's oldest intact shipwreck, was discovered at the bottom of the Black Sea off the coast of Bulgaria. It dates back to the year 400 B.C. The oldest intact shipwreck ever has been found resting on the bottom of the Black Sea. A team of researchers has found the world's oldest intact shipwreck. The Black Sea #Maritime_Archaeology project recently found the wreck off the coast of Bulgaria. It's believed to be from a #Greek_merchant_ship. Carbon dating has shown it to be more than 2,400 years old! The ruins were discovered more than a mile underwater, in oxygen-free conditions that helped preserve the ship's parts. It's just one of several ancient vessels the Black Sea Archaeology project has found over the past three years.

Georgia's Saakashvili Named Governor of Black Sea Hotspot

00:57
Ukraine's Petro Poroshenko has appointed former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to be governor of Ukraine's southern Odessa region, in a surprise move that is certain to raise hackles in Moscow. He granted Saakashvili Ukrainian citizenship to facilitate the move. The security of the Black Sea city of Odessa and its surrounding region has become increasingly worrisome for Ukrainians since a separatist conflict broke out in eastern Ukraine following Russia's annexation of Crimea further along the coast. Saakashvili replaces Ihor Palytsia, a businessman who was appointed governor in May last year after more than 40 people, most of them pro-Russian sympathizers, died in a fire in the port city during a confrontation with pro-Western demonstrators. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/mpUE9hbknqs/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

10 Most Insane Sea Creatures Discovered

10:02
From ugly sea creatures that seem almost made up, to giant spiderlike creatures that are more than twice your size, here are the most insane sea creatures ever discovered. 10 Work smarter, not harder The poor misunderstood Blobfish was crowned World's ugliest animal in 2013. But actually, it could be one of the smartest creatures in the deep ocean. Because during its evolution, they gave up the concept of a swim bladder, the organ that fills with air to keep most fish floating, and instead developed their body (that has absolutely no muscles or bones, by the way) with a gel-like substance that has a lower density than the sea itself. Less dense, more float. This makes them bob around without having to complete the exhausting task of swimming. Sounds like a relaxed fish, right? Down at it’s normal depths of 2 to 4,000 feet below the surface, the weight the sea squeezes around their bodies from all angels, creating a fish that looks like...well...a fish. But put on their low density build in OUR atmosphere and they rock this particular "face melting off" look. Since they just float around until food gets in their way (mostly microscopic bacteria or invertebrates such as crabs), they don't exert energy while feeding. Since they don’t do much else other than float and feed, they don't really need to store much energy at all. This fact gets them into the "lazy" category of the sea creatures. This fantastic creature is believed to be in danger of extinction soon because it shares the same living area as crustaceans and they get usually caught in the big nets fisherman use to fish on the sea bottom. 9 Watch your step The Stargazer got its cool name because it actually has eyes on top of their large heads. They also have an upward-facing mouth. Basically they just have a face on the top of their head. This hide and seek master buries itself on the sand and leaps upward with an oceanic ninja move to ambush their prey (this guy likes invertebrates, too, and tiny submarine fish). She might look funny...but careful if you cross her path. Stargazers are extrmely venomous: they have two large spines situated above their pectoral fins filled with venom. Some species can also cause electric shocks. Need more nightmare material? Stargazers have a worm-like appendage that rises from their huge mouths to lure their prey close. Like something out of beetlejuice. 8 Underwater Red Light The Red Flashing Jellyfish is a pretty recent discovery, it was first spotted in 2005 by using a remote-controlled research robot, and there still isn't much information about it up to these days. That’s what’s so cool about the deep sea...it’s still relatively unexplored! What scientists discovered was a jellyfish with stinging tentacles that branch off of a central stalk and contain spots that produce blue-green light when immature and red light when mature. But the focus of the discovery was the red light, which is the first fluorescent red light to be found at their depth. Before this jelly was discovered, researchers thought most fish at this depth couldn’t even see red light. The red flashes are believed to be a method of attracting prey and drawing them close enough to be dinner. 7 Four Fins Better Than One This specimen goes all the way back to the Jurassic period, and fossils have been discovered in England, France, Germany and Russia. The Lio-pleur-odon was a reptile about 6 meters long, whose jaws alone are thought to have spanned the distance from the floor to the ceiling! Needless to say, it was one of the predators that dominated the food chain. The thing that made them special was not two, but four fins for swimming. They weren't specifically efficient for propulsion but they were incredibly productive with acceleration for hunting time. 6 The Sneaky Shadow Back to present day beasts. The Pacific Blackdragon is an ambush predator with a pitch-black body. As most of its prey are bioluminescent creatures, their bodies (even their stomachs) are coated with black tissue, this, is to block any light that the animals they eat might produce, so their lunch doesn’t cause them to glow from the inside out and make them more visible to others. It almost seems malicious how well thought out that it. But this obscure specimen has some light to share. They have a separate light organ that hangs down from their chin, used as a lure to attract prey toward their sharp toothy mouths. 5 Big Mouth Food Thief 4 Aquarium On The Inside 3 Disco Fashion is Back! 2 All You Can Eat 1 Arachnophobia meets the sea.

Maritime archaeologists discovered 40 ancient shipwrecks at the bottom of the Black Sea VIDEO

02:02
A group of maritime archeologists studying sea levels in the Black Sea have uncovered over 40 shipwrecks this year as a “complete bonus.” The Black Sea Maritime Archeology Project has been trawling the seabed to understand how quickly the water level rose after the last Ice Age, 20,000 years ago. But their surveys ended up uncovering dozens of previously unknown wrecks. Many of the discoveries are in excellent condition, thanks to low oxygen levels below 150 meters, which slows decay. The wrecks are a complete bonus, but a fascinating discovery, found during the course of our extensive geophysical surveys,” said Jon Adams, a University of Southampton maritime archaeologist and principal investigator of the project, in a statement. The team took thousands of still photographs of the shipwrecks, and then used photogrammetry, a technique that uses software to calculate the positions of millions of points in space, to build 3D models of the discoveries. Some of the ships discovered are thousands of years old, dating to the Byzantine empire, while others are from the Ottoman period. Hulls, masts, tillers, and rudders are all clearly discernible. “Certainly no one has achieved models of this completeness on shipwrecks at these depths,” said Adams.

5 STRANGE Deep Sea Creatures - Part 1?

06:56
Its pitch black, extremely cold, immensely pressurised, low in food and oxygen and insanely vast. I'm of course talking about the Deep Sea. To survive in inconceivably extreme environments like this, animals of the deep must be pretty unbelievable. They are. Mainly because these mysterious creatures have adapted in ways that will surely blow your mind away - for a multitude of reasons. At a depth of 1800 meters or more it’s the largest habitat on earth, so let’s explore 5 unbelievable creatures found there. The deep ocean is the final frontier on planet Earth

14:49
Watch the latest in the Ocean series - What sharks reveal about the state of the Ocean: https://youtu.be/6xz1mxppMhY The ocean covers 70% of our planet. The deep-sea floor is a realm that is largely unexplored, but cutting-edge technology is enabling a new generation of aquanauts to go deeper than ever before. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: http://econ.trib.al/rWl91R7 Beneath the waves is a mysterious world that takes up to 95% of Earth's living space. Only three people have ever reached the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean. The deep is a world without sunlight, of freezing temperatures, and immense pressure. It's remained largely unexplored until now. Cutting-edge technology is enabling a new generation of aquanauts to explore deeper than ever before. They are opening up a whole new world of potential benefits to humanity. The risks are great, but the rewards could be greater. From a vast wealth of resources to clues about the origins of life, the race is on to the final frontier The Okeanos Explorer, the American government state-of-the-art vessel, designed for every type of deep ocean exploration from discovering new species to investigating shipwrecks. On board, engineers and scientists come together to answer questions about the origins of life and human history. Today the Okeanos is on a mission to investigate the wreck of a World War one submarine. Engineer Bobby Moore is part of a team who has developed the technology for this type of mission. The “deep discover”, a remote operating vehicle is equipped with 20 powerful LED lights and designed to withstand the huge pressure four miles down. Equivalent to 50 jumbo jets stacked on top of a person While the crew of the Okeanos send robots to investigate the deep, some of their fellow scientists prefer a more hands-on approach. Doctor Greg stone is a world leading marine biologist with over 8,000 hours under the sea. He has been exploring the abyss in person for 30 years. The technology opening up the deep is also opening up opportunity. Not just to witness the diversity of life but to glimpse vast amounts of rare mineral resources. Some of the world's most valuable metals can be found deep under the waves. A discovery that has begun to pique the interest of the global mining industry. The boldest of mining companies are heading to the deep drawn by the allure of a new Gold Rush. But to exploit it they're also beating a path to another strange new world. In an industrial estate in the north of England, SMD is one of the world's leading manufacturers of remote underwater equipment. The industrial technology the company has developed has made mining possible several kilometers beneath the ocean surface. With an estimated 150 trillion dollars’ worth of gold alone, deep-sea mining has the potential to transform the global economy. With so much still to discover, mining in the deep ocean could have unknowable impact. It's not just life today that may need protecting; reaching the deep ocean might just allow researchers to answer some truly fundamental questions. Hydrothermal vents, hot springs on the ocean floor, are cracks in the Earth's crust. Some claim they could help scientists glimpse the origins of life itself. We might still be years away from unlocking the mysteries of the deep. Even with the latest technology, this kind of exploration is always challenging. As the crew of the Okeanos comes to terms with a scale of the challenge and the opportunity that lies beneath, what they and others discover could transform humanity's understanding of how to protect the ocean. It's the most hostile environment on earth, but the keys to our future may lie in the deep. The Rolling Stones - Paint It, Black (Official Lyric Video)

03:47
“Paint It, Black” by The Rolling Stones Composers: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards Lyrics: I see a red door and I want it painted black No colors anymore I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head until my darkness goes I see a line of cars and they're all painted black With flowers and my love both never to come back I see people turn their heads and quickly look away Like a new born baby it just happens every day I look inside myself and see my heart is black I see my red door, I must have it painted black Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts It's not easy facin' up when your whole world is black No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue I could not foresee this thing happening to you If I look hard enough into the settin' sun My love will laugh with me before the mornin' comes I see a red door and I want it painted black No colors anymore I want them to turn black I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes I have to turn my head until my darkness goes I wanna see your face, painted black Black as night, black as coal I wanna see the sun flying high in the sky I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black Yeah! What If All the Sea Water Becomes Fresh Water

05:20
Where do you go to quench your thirst? The kitchen sink? The local bar? The mineral rich springs of Bergamo, Italy? In the 21st century, you don’t have to go that far for fresh water. But still, supply is running out. What if we didn’t have to worry about water consumption? What if you could drink and shower as much as you wanted? What if a trip to the well, and a trip to the beach were one and the same? MLTV will be a collaborative channel. If you would like to make some content available to MLTV, please write to [email protected] MLTV will also centralise on the channel, by way of classified playlists, relevant videos on marine litter. At the moment, we are compiling the videos in one single playlist, but soon we will classify the videos and compile them in topical playlists. If you would like to indicate a video for the playlist, please send an email to [email protected] At this moment, we are looking for a sponsor to fund the project for the visual identity of MLTV (opening, sound track, customization of the channel, etc.). If you are interested in funding this project, please contact us by email to [email protected] The first production by MLTV was the coverage of the International Conference on Prevention and Management of Marine Litter in European Seas (Berlin, Germany, from 10 to 12 April, 2013). http://www.marine-litter-conference-berlin.info The costs for this coverage were sponsored by Lighthouse Foundation (Kiel, Germany). http://www.lighthouse-foundation.org
