http://www.lloydsmaritimeacademy.com/ytnaabout Certificate in Naval Architecture: Introducing the essential elements of naval architecture by distance learning from Lloyd's Maritime Academy This essential introduction to naval architecture is organised in seven key modules. Over 14 weeks it will: - Introduce principal areas of knowledge - Examine the role of the Naval Architect - Clearly explain the fundamental tools, techniques and principles of naval architecture - Study the challenges imposed by the marine environment, and how these shape the design of ships - Provide knowledge of the science involved in naval architecture including hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and materials - Explain essential ship operations, components and technology which must be considered in design - Establish the framework of rules, regulations and standards within which naval architects work - Demystify the processes of ship design and construction Students who successfully complete the Certificate are eligible to join the Royal Institution of Naval Architects as an Associate of RINA (AssocRINA) and enjoy the membership benefits of this leading international professional society, serving those directly or indirectly involved with the design, construction and operation of marine vessels and structures. Find out more on the website: http://www.lloydsmaritimeacademy.com/ytnaabout Lloyd's is the registered trade mark of the Society incorporated by the Lloyd's Act 1871 by the name of "Lloyd's".

Ship Stabilization: "Damage Control: The Metacenter in Stability" 1945 US Navy Training Film

17:22
US Navy Training Film playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA40407C12E5E35A7 more at http://quickfound.net "We have seen that the metacentric height can be used as a measure of initial stabliity. We also have seen that changes in GM affect the entire stability curve... a change in the position of G [center of gravity] changes not only the initial stability, but the range of stability as well..." US Navy Training Film MN-61j. Originally a public domain film from the US National Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metacentric_height Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ The metacentric height (GM) is a measurement of the initial static stability of a floating body. It is calculated as the distance between the centre of gravity of a ship and its metacentre. A larger metacentric height implies greater initial stability against overturning. The metacentric height also influences the natural period of rolling of a hull, with very large metacentric heights being associated with shorter periods of roll which are uncomfortable for passengers. Hence, a sufficiently, but not excessively, high metacentric height is considered ideal for passenger ships... Metacentre Whenever a body, floating in a liquid, is given a small angular displacement, it starts oscillating about some point. The point, about which the body starts oscillating, is called Metacentre. When a ship heels, the centre of buoyancy of the ship moves laterally. It might also move up or down with respect to the water line. The point at which a vertical line through the heeled centre of buoyancy crosses the line through the original, vertical centre of buoyancy is the metacentre. The metacentre remains directly above the centre of buoyancy by definition. ...The metacentre is considered to be fixed for small angles of heel; however, at larger angles of heel, the metacentre can no longer be considered fixed, and its actual location must be found to calculate the ship's stability... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damage_control In navies and the maritime industry, damage control is the emergency control of situations that may cause the sinking of a watercraft. Examples are: - rupture of a pipe or hull especially below the waterline and - damage from grounding (running aground) or hard berthing against a wharf. - temporary fixing of bomb or explosive damage...

Professor Fred Stern of the University of Iowa College of Engineering describes the new $4.9 million wave basin facility at the University of Iowa's research campus. This wave basin will be used by Stern and his colleagues in UI's Ship Hydrodynamics Research Group to further develop the simulation software called CFDSHIP-IOWA that they have developed for the United States Office of Naval Research to aid in the ship design process. The UI Ship Hydrodynamics Research Group is a program of IIHR- Hydroscience & Engineering, one of the nation's preeminent institutes for the study of fluid mechanics, air and water resources, and environmental hydraulics. to learn more: http://iihr.uiowa.edu

Naval Architecture - design of ship hull structures

26:02
design of ship hull structures. Copy from HSBO channel. The hull of a ship is the most notable structural entity of the ship. To define the hull, it can be said that it is the watertight enclosure of the ship, which protects the cargo, machinery, and accommodation spaces of the ship from the weather, flooding, and structural damage. But this alone, does not suffice our requirements of understanding all the aspects of a ship’s hull. In this article, we will be see how the hull of a ship is designed for various factors taken into consideration during the entire lifetime of the ship, and how the design of a ship’s hull plays the most important role in the entire ship design and shipbuilding project. Hydrofoil Control: How to Stay on Foil

09:38
Why would an airplane company design a ship? When considering hydrofoil ships, aircraft share many of the same requirements. More specifically, every hydrofoil vessel needs a method of motion control, even sailing hydrofoils. This article discusses the problem of hydrofoil control and several solutions. Tad Roberts Yacht Design and Naval Architecture

02:57
Boat design by Tad Roberts. Initial found as a linked picture on a forum. Unable to recover the place where it was found we started to search the web for equal drawing structures, and so, after some time, we found the designer of the Douglas Fir. Tad Roberts is a naval architect with great class for seaworthy hull design. The difference with other boat designers and Tad roberts is that others design women, and Tad Roberts designs beautifull women. This movie shows that good naval engineering and the right data, together with well designed simulator software will give the exact views on future live performance of a design. Due to the fact that naval, software and 3D engineers also have to pay their bills, this boat, ready for VS and VSF will only be available trough turbosquid, for a fair price. If you are interested in a model for Virtual Sailor and Vehicle Simulator you can contact Tad Roberts or mail for information zilverenmist's channel. And for all those who think I steal music, this music was composed with licenced magix musicmaker v17 software.
