Deep Sea Creatures [National Geographic Documentary 2017 HD]

53:56
Deep Sea Creatures [National Geographic Documentary 2017 HD] The Deep sea creature refers to organisms that live below the photic zone of the ocean. These creatures must survive in extremely harsh conditions, such as hundreds of bars of pressure, small amounts of oxygen, very little food, no sunlight, and constant, extreme cold. Most creatures have to depend on food floating down from above. These creatures live in very demanding environments, such as the abyssal or hadal zones, which, being thousands of meters below the surface, are almost completely devoid of light. The water is between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius and has low oxygen levels. Due to the depth, the pressure is between 20 and 1,000 bars. Creatures that live hundreds or even thousands of meters deep in the ocean have adapted to the high pressure, lack of light, and other factors. The depths of the ocean are festooned with the most nightmarish creatures imaginable. You might think you’re safe, because these critters live thousands of feet down in a cold dark abyss, but the vampire squid, which looks like a nightmare umbrella, and the frilled shark—a literal living fossil—will live on in the recesses of your mind long after you’ve clicked away. Enjoy these deep sea horrors and try to have a relaxing day afterward. ► NOTE : I'm a big fan of National Geographic and I just collect the best parts of National Geographic. I do not make money from National Geographic's Video. Thanks You very much

Top 10 Most Bizarre Deep Sea Creatures Ever Discovered

Deep Sea Creatures are as bizarre as creatures get. From angler fish to giant squid, here are some of the weirdest bizarre deep sea creatures caught on tape. Subscribe for more! ► https://goo.gl/pgcoq1 ◄ Stay updated ► https://goo.gl/JyGcTt https://goo.gl/5c8dzr ◄ For copyright queries or general inquiries please get in touch: [email protected] Credit: https://pastebin.com/Pc2NrbsG Be Amazed at these top 10 most bizarre deep sea creatures in the world! Weird Octopuses - Octopuses are already strange creatures. Let's start off with the flapjack octopus which certainly looks like something out of a Disney movie . The informally named ‘Casper’ octopus gets the inspiration obviously from its ghastly look. For another Disney reference, look no further than the dumbo octopus . Angler Fish - Of course, we can't talk about the deep sea without mentioning just about every super wide-jawed oddity that lurks down there. On the top of the list is none other than the angler fish , which gets its name from its unusual hunting method, which involves luring prey close to its mouth using that weird luminescent appendage coming out of its head. Another frightening fish is the viperfish , measuring around 60 centimetres, or 23 inches in length. Probably even more hideous are deep-seadragonfishes , a similar class of wide-jawed monsters which make viperfish look like their incomplete cousins. Pelican Flounder - The main challenge for any deep-sea organism isn’t actually the absence of light, but the crushing pressure levels. Giant Isopods and Amphipods - Sure, ancient trilobites and modern horseshoe crabs may look cute and all, but out on the deep sea floor, there are creepy crawlies that can take you millions of years back into the age of the giant insects. Spider Crabs - Speaking of crustaceans, crabs also subjected to the same freakish transformations when the deep sea is taken into account. The Hoff crab is another ghastly version of its normal counterpart. Colossal Squid - The colossal squid is a gigantic cephalopod that is easily more than twice the size of a regular human. Giant squid are another huge squid species. Harp Sponge - As fearsome as they already are, sea anemones and other similar creatures have at least taught us that the oceans are also home to a number of immobile predatory feeders. Sea Toads - Siphonophores - Deep sea siphonophores are long lines of jellyfish-like entities connected together, only guided by the organism behind and in front. Gulper Eels - If there is one thing in the deep that is the literal stuff of nightmares, it would definitely have to be the Gulper eel . This is to be expected though, as at 8,200 meters deep, the cusk eel is officially one of the deepest ocean dwelling creatures on record.

13 Glowing ALIEN Fish From The Deep Sea

10:04
From Fluorescent Viperfish and Bioluminescent Catsharks to Glowing Anglerfish and Genetically Modified Glofish. These are 13 Glowing Fish. SUBSCRIBE for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR 13 GloFish Let’s start off this video about fish that glow, with GloFish! They are a patented and trademarked brand of genetically engineered fluorescent fish. The first fluorescent zebrafish were created at the National University of Singapore in 1999, by scientists trying to make a fish that would detect pollution by glowing in toxic waters. They combined the zebrafish embryo with genes that encode fluorescent proteins from jellyfish and sea coral. Yorktown Technologies, a company from Austin, Texas, bought the worldwide marketing rights to the fluorescent fish and in 2003, introduced the GloFish in the United States. It is the first and only genetically engineered animal to be publicly available and can only be found in the US. 12 Stoplight Loosejaw At number 12, we have the first naturally glowing fish on our list, the Stoplight Loosejaw. A type of barbeled dragonfish, it lives in the mesopelagic areas of all oceans. The mesopelagic zone is between 200 and 1000 metres below the surface of the water. Sunrays usually stop well before the 1 kilometre mark so creatures living here need to adapt to the darkness. Like our loosejaw, who lurks below the waters looking for zooplankton, with its huge mouth wide open, while using bioluminescence to look for Copepods, its favourite food. It is called a Stoplight Loosejaw because it has two big photophores, one red and one green and they look like the colors on a traffic stoplight. Due to the way light travels and dissipates in deep water, the red photophore allows it to see prey without being detected. They are also called rat-trap fish because of the unusual open structure of their jaws. 8 Cookiecutter Shark Moving on to the Cookiecutter Shark, or the Cigar Shark, an oceanic fish that likes to swim at depth of over 3 kilometres below the water. The name "cookiecutter shark" refers to its feeding habit of gouging round plugs, as if cut out with a cookie cutter, out of larger animals. Marks made by cookiecutter sharks have been found on a wide variety of marine mammals and fishes, as well as on submarines, undersea cables, and even human bodies. But the Cookiecutter Shark also glows in the dark, one of the most glowing of all fish, it’s bioluminescence persists up to 3 hours after being out of water. The photophores are strategically places on its underside to disrupt the light coming from above, confusing predators and hiding it’s real silhouette. 7 Lanternfish This method of camouflaging yourself with light is also used by the the Lantern Fish. A species of small, deep water fish, it is one of the most widely distributed fish. It is estimated that 65% of the oceans biomass are Lanternfish, with 246 species discovered so far. Small fish, they are between 2 and 30 centimetres long, although most of them stay well under 15 centimetres. They are masters of disguise, using their bioluminescence and counterillumination to confuse predators and mask themselves on the bottoms of the oceans. Thy also have gas bladders that confuse other fish that use echolocation or sonars. 2 Viperfish Next we take a closer look at the Viperfish. They are between 30 and 60 centimetres long and live in tropical and temperate waters and swim at great depths, 1500 metres below sea level during the day and down to 4000 metres during the night. They have snake like bodies and long, needle like teeth, and they are really ugly. They are predatory fish and feed on almost anything they gets their teeth into. The Viperfish has 3 types of photophores on its body, used mainly to attract prey. They have microscopic spheres all over their dorsal side, large spheres with pigment, reflector and lens, and finally, large, bell shaped organs grouped together along the dorsal surface. Although it may look like the viperfish is covered in scales, it is in fact covered by a thick, transparent coating of an unknown substance. 1 Anglerfish And at number one, probably the most famous and bizzare glowing fish, the Anglerfish. There are many types of Anglerfish, all over the globe, living at a variety of depths. But what all Anglerfish species have in common are their huge mouths full of razor sharp teeth and the esca, a fleshy growth on their heads, that houses light producing bacteria, and acts like bait for their prey, luring them straight into the fishs mouth. Anglerfish are a delicacy. Some Anglerfish species are a source of food. In North America, Europe and East-Asia, Goosefish are widely used in cooking and is often compared to a lobster tail in taste and texture. In Asia, especially in Korea and Japan, the liver of the Monkfish is considered a delicacy.

First ever footage of a deep sea fang tooth fish catching prey. The fang tooth Anoplogaster cornet, the common fang tooth, is a poorly understood type of ray-finned fish. It's so different compared to many other fish and there are only two known species in its family. The fins are small and spineless and the scales are like the plates of a tank! Caught in the deep trench of San Clemente, California, at 600m with a cod-end trawl and filmed in a special kreisal tank, it's pretty mean fish and soon finds a shrimp to catch!

Macropinna microstoma: A deep-sea fish with a transparent head and tubular eyes

01:29
MBARI researchers Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler used video taken by unmanned, undersea robots called remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to study barreleye fish in the deep waters just offshore of Central California. At depths of 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 feet) below the surface, the ROV cameras typically showed these fish hanging motionless in the water, their eyes glowing a vivid green in the ROV's bright lights. The ROV video also revealed a previously undescribed feature of these fish--its eyes are surrounded by a transparent, fluid-filled shield that covers the top of the fish's head. This video is narrated by senior scientist Bruce Robison. For more on this story, see MBARI's news release at: http://www.mbari.org/news/news_releases/2009/barreleye/barreleye.html For more cool animal images, see MBARI's feature images galleries: http://www.mbari.org/news/feature-image/feature-image-gallery-2.html

Deep Sea Fish Farming in Geodesic Domes: Upgrade

10:03
In this episode of Upgrade, Motherboard goes to Baja California, Mexico to get a firsthand look at these free floating pods, and to get an understanding for why we need better ways to cultivate our future food sources. Whether it’s found on a plate of sushi, grilled in our backyard, or thrown on pasta, seafood is a staple for many diets around the world, and demand is growing. And as the commercial seafood industry booms, fish stocks worldwide face perilous declines. We’ve surpassed our capacity to sustainably fish wild caught fish, shrimp, and mollusks from the ocean, and so we’ve turned to aquaculture, or fish farming, as a strategy to meet demand for our growing appetites for water-borne critters. The aquaculture industry is growing fast. According to the FAO, per capita production of seafood from aquaculture has increased 6.9 percent annually since 1970. Unfortunately for us and for our Earth, current methods of fish farming often involve crowded, tethered pens, which can have poor water circulation and contribute to the spread of disease, and put large amounts of environmental stress on the surrounding waterways. This is where Steve Page of Ocean Farm Technologies comes in. Taking inspiration from naturally-occurring schools of fish and Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes, Page co-designed the Aquapod, a free floating, untethered deep ocean fish habitat which reduces overcrowding, and creates less stress on surrounding environments due to its unique ability to change location with the ocean's current. 10 MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN CREATURES IN THE WORLD

10:17
10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

Surprised looking deep sea fish with strange light organs - rare video

01:29
Very rare video of a living silver hatchet fish from the deep sea (Argyropelecus aculeates). It's bright and thin silver body is highly polished and reflects the slightest of ambient light, and is a surprising type of camouflage in the deep dark waters. Found at middle depths from 2000 ft (600m) to the sea bed, and migrating up at night, it has light organs outline its body (called photophores). It's thought that from below it can match light coming from the surface to make itself invisible ( counter illumination). They are thought to hunt prey from below with their upward turning mouth, that gives it a surprised look! You can see the light cells in the shots from underneath, but in the white light needed to film they do not glow. Very few people have ever seen a living deep-sea hatchet fish , although there are similar shallow marine and fresh water types that do not have light cells, but the freshwater ones are not closely related and thought to be convergent in their evolutionary design. Little is known of their life history but they are not thought to live for more than a year. Their spawning grounds are unknown. Likely found worldwide in the deep oceans.

King Fish, Snapper, Jew and Tusk Fish with Fish The Deep Charters Gold Coast

15:46
Some of the highlights from our day out with Fish The Deep fishing charters on the Gold Coast... Jai, Krystle "The Brisbane River Girl" and myself managed to land a mixed bag of mid sized reef species fishing in 70-100m of water out from the seaway... We start off the vid with Jai doing bait duty followed by me putting the bait to "good use" with a massive hit that i unfortunately dropped shortly after... The first fish landed we left unedited to show how long it took to actually get the fish up! A far cry from the kind of fishing we are used to... All in all a fantastic experience that I definitely want to enjoy again! Many thanks to the boys from Fish The Deep... Very professional and always ready to jump in when needed... Bringing Fish Up from the Deep | Engineering Is

05:20
Fish that live in the twilight zone region of the ocean are a crucial part of a vastly under-studied ecosystem. When fish are brought up to the surface for study, the change in pressure between their native depth (200-500 feet) and sea level often causes fatal damages to their anatomy. Watch how a team of scientists from the California Academy of Sciences designs and builds a portable chamber that creates a pressure-controlled environment for these animals, so they can safely transport them from the twilight zone to the aquarium. For more about this story, go to: http://science.kqed.org/quest/video/bringing-fish-up-from-the-deep/ Transcript: - One of the most interesting parts of the ocean for me is this area that we call the Twilight Zone, which is this narrow band of the ocean between about 200 and 500 feet below the surface of the water. It's mysterious, it's unknown, it's sort of enchanting and captivating, but also it's an area where literally, the light is like twilight. - This twilight zone is part of the coral reef, but it's a part that's very understudied. About half of the fish are not known, and nobody goes down there because there's a lot of technical difficulties associated in going there. So a lot of the times, those deep reefs are being destroyed even before we identify what's down there. - It wasn't until really recent years that we've had sophisticated and reliable diving equipment that allowed people to actually go down there and come back. One of the most challenging aspects of this diving really is the pressure. The deeper you go in the ocean, the more and more pressure is stacking up, and that's essentially just all of that water that's over your head pressing down on your body. One of the first things we recognized is that the fish that we wanted to bring up from the depths were subject to the same decompression issues that humans are. - So most fish have swim bladders. It's a little chamber filled with gas that keeps them neutrally buoyant, so if they didn't have a swim bladder because the fish, their tissues, are heavier than water, it will just sink. If you capture a fish at those depths and just bring him to the surface, that swim bladder is going to inflate. The gas expands inversely to the pressure. The swim bladder expands, it pushes the stomach away, it pushes the heart, the heart stops beating, and then everything else collapses just because the swim bladder takes the space of everything. - And then there's an antheus in here somewhere. It's from Hawaii. - I had started to hear about the idea of the academy going down and exploring deep under the ocean with divers and possibly collecting fish down there, and since my job is to make sure that those fish come back healthy, I thought about different ways that we could make sure that they could handle that pressure change. Is there a way that we can seal the fish up at pressure, keep them at the pressure that they were collected at, and then bring them to the surface and slowly decompress them over a period of a few days, so that we don't have to have any of that trauma. What we wanted to do was to take the pressure chamber underwater with us. We knew that if we wanted to dive with it, it needed to be sturdy yet sleek yet light yet all these things that's sort of our design compromises. And it also needs to, of course, be able to handle the immense amount of pressure that's on it. The first sort of flash bulb over the head idea that we had was to use a water filter housing. They're used for home water filtration. It's about two gallons, it's enough space for our fish to live in that space for about 24 hours while we decompress them, and that's a cheap off the shelf unit, you can get one for about $100, but then we just heavily modified it. This is the main pressure canister, or the main pressure chamber. I mean it's basically tinkering on a grand scale. I mean I played with Legos as a kid, and this is like real adult Legos, right? Putting all these things together and seeing how they work and seeing how an idea that is brand new that nobody's ever done before, seeing how it works in the real world is great. It's a dream job. - [Bart] It's a portable, submersible, deep compression chamber. You just pull the velcro up and stick the fish in and seal the velcro. And then once we were done with the collecting, make sure that we sealed it all up tight, make sure it holds the pressure, and then we start our ascent. - [Matt] They bring it up to the boat, and then we connect it to a water supply and our pressure generating pump, and that pushes water through the canister, so that the fish start to get a water change. We keep it like that for the next 24 hours while we slowly start to bleed off that pressure until it's at surface pressure.

WHY is This Fish THROWING UP Its STOMACH? - Catch Clean Cook - Multi Species DEEP Drop Fishing!

14:27
►CHECK OUT LANDSHARK GEAR https://landsharkfishinggear.com/ In this catch, clean and cook video I prepare multiple species of fish from my Bimini, Bahamas Fishing trip. We did some deep drop fishing and caught a variety of deep sea species such as mystic grouper, yellow eye and queen snapper, plus a surprise amberjack. Deep water fish suffer from a not so RARE condition called barotrauma in which the air bladder of the fish cannot expel gas fast enough to meet the demands of the decreasing pressure as a fish is reeled up to the surface, and the fish end up throwing up their own stomach. I prepare 3 fish recipes using Hogfish (hog snapper), wahoo and yellow eye snapper/ mystic grouper. I made sesame crusted seared wahoo , which is one of the best tasting fish for a seared fish recipe.
