It was also their first to be recorded on a 4-track, as opposed to the usual 2-track, tape machine. The Beatles had the song well rehearsed when they made the first of 17 takes on October 17th 1963. Following The Beatles’ historic appearance on The Ed Sullivan show on February 9th, the single – already at No.1 in the charts – gained further momentum. They taped a performance of the song earlier in the day of their live appearance and it was shown on the Sullivan show of February 23rd, which helped maintain the song’s popularity. This avalanche of publicity, engineered by Brian Epstein, helped the single to stay at the top for seven weeks, which made it the longest-running No.1 of their career to date (until ‘Hey Jude’).

Everybody spoke about the backwards thing on Abbey Road. That's bullshit. I just read that one about Dylan, too. That's bullshit. The rumor about Paul being dead? I don't know where that started, that's balmy. You know as much about it as me. Were any of those things really on the album that were said to be there? The clues? No. That was bullshit, the whole thing was made up. We wouldn't do anything like that. We did put in like "tit, tit, tit" in "Girl," and many things I don't remember, like a beat missing or something like that could be interpreted like that. Some people have got nothing better to do than study Bibles and make myths about it and study rocks and make stories about how people used to live. It's just something for them to do. They live vicariously.

Do You Want to Know a Secret?" is a song by English rock group the Beatles from the 1963 album Please Please Me, sung by George Harrison. In the United States, it was the first top ten song to feature Harrison as a lead singer, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard chart in 1964 as a single released by Vee-Jay, VJ 587. The song reached the No. 1 position on Billboard in 1981 and No. 2 in the United Kingdom in a cover version by Stars on 45 as part of a medley. "Do You Want to Know a Secret?", written in autumn 1962, was primarily composed by John Lennon but credited to Lennon–McCartney. The song was inspired by "I'm Wishing", a tune from Walt Disney’s 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which Lennon's mother, Julia Lennon, would sing to him as a child. The first two lines of the song in Disney's movie ("Want to know a secret? Promise not to tell?") come right after the opening lyrics ("You'll never know how much I really love you... You'll never know how much I really care..."). McCartney has said it was a "50–50 collaboration written to order", i.e., for Harrison to sing, but Lennon, who always claimed the song as his own, explained in a 1980 interview that he had realized as soon as he had finished writing the song that it best suited Harrison.

This song shows the true genius of Lennon-McCartney. (and Harrison). 2:17 to make their point.. So simple.. so relevant and timeless.. so infectious.. They let George sing it.. Smart idea.. It was surely one of his very best vocals. I am continually amazed by the greatness of these four men.. Just when you think you've heard it all, you hear something new.. It never seems to end.. I think it never will.. Peace... LL

B3 Can't Buy Me Love B4 All My Loving B5 I Want To Hold Your Hand B6 P.S. I Love You Arranged By -- Benny Carter, Ernie Freeman Art Direction -- Ed Thrasher Producer -- Jimmy Bowen ------------------------ "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" is a song by The Beatles from the 1963 album Please Please Me, sung by George Harrison. In the United States, it was the first top ten song to feature Harrison as a lead singer. Composition "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" was primarily written by John Lennon, but credited to Lennon/McCartney. The song was inspired by "I'm Wishing", a tune from Walt Disney's 1937 animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs which Lennon's mother, Julia Lennon, would sing to him as a child. The first two lines of the song in Disney's movie ("Want to know a secret? Promise not to tell?") come right after the opening lyrics ("You'll never know how much I really love you... You'll never know how much I really care..."). McCartney said it was a "50-50 collaboration written to order," i.e., for Harrison to sing. Recording In 1980, Lennon said that he gave "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" to Harrison to sing because "it only had three notes and he wasn't the best singer in the world," but added "he has improved a lot since then." Harrison sang two songs on Please Please Me, this song by Lennon and McCartney and "Chains" by Goffin/King. The Beatles did not record a song composed solely by Harrison until "Don't Bother Me" on With The Beatles. The song was recorded during a ten-hour session on 11 February 1963 along with nine other songs for Please Please Me. Single release "Do You Want to Know a Secret?" was released a year later as a single by Vee-Jay in the United States on 23 March 1964, reaching the number two spot behind another Beatles song, "Can't Buy Me Love" in Billboard, reaching number three on the Cash Box chart, but reaching number one for two weeks in the chart published by the Teletheatre Research Institute. The Billy J. Kramer version The Beatles' version was never released as a single in the United Kingdom, where a cover version by Billy J. Kramer with the Dakotas (released b/w "I'll Be on My Way", Parlophone R5023, 26 April 1963) reached number two in the Record Retailer chart, and hit number one in the NME chart (used by Radio Luxembourg) and the BBC's Pick of the Pops chart, which were more widely recognised at the time.

PLEASE: Read video description below BEFORE COMMENTING. Redundant comments or questions will be deleted. Donate to this channel: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=67VY5LHFK3TJJ The original recording is about 15 cents flat so I corrected it to concert pitch. This is a 1991 Gibson J-160E (acoustic/electric) played through a Vox AD15VT set to AC30TB with min bass, min mid and max treble and the amp is close mic recorded with a Tascam DR01 hand-held digital recorder. Strings are Masterbuilt Phosphor Bronze .012 - .052. My performance, with compression, is mixed with the backing tracks and the whole mix is limited. This is the way the Beatles recorded these early tunes. It is difficult to duplicate the sound with just the guitar and amp. No tabs. My videos are really intended for accomplished guitarists who want to polish up their Beatles repertoire and can benefit from "seeing" how a song is played - I am not a guitar teacher and do not provide tabs. I welcome specific questions. If the various chords that I am playing are not familiar to you then I would suggest that you visit some of the many free guitar chord sites. I had to learn these songs by listening to vinyl records and watching live performances on tv.
