The United States was built on dreams. From the first European settlers, landing at New York's Ellis Island, through to the entrepreneurs who grew businesses both
great and small, America has nurtured and rewarded those who work hard and have vision. From their earliest childhood, young Americans are brought up to believe that they
have the world at their feet and that dreams can be achieved by those who really want them.
In these troubled and uncertain times, McGregor celebrates optimism and the go-getting enthusiasm of the US with a Spring/Summer collection that balances nostalgia for the
golden years of Americana with a positive vibe that looks forward to a better future. Capturing the spirit of long summers on the Eastern Seaboard, and with influences
ranging from classic F Scott Fitzgerald novels to the sports pursuits of the Hampton's' jet set, McGregor offers a perfect wardrobe for the next generation of dreamers.
Colours for the season are fresh and clean, with indigos and classic navy blue forming the background to a whole array of spring-like pastels and brighter highlights. Checks are still
present but more in the guise of ginghams and micro-designs whilst stripes of every size and combination bring a Cape Cod seaside feel to the collection. In true American style, sportswear is mixed with smarter elements, bringing a youthful appeal to classic blazers and chinos. The sports influence runs deeper still when cricket sweaters are teamed with chambray shorts or rugby shirts layered up under collegiate bomber jackets. Meanwhile more contrasts are played out by juxtaposing washed cotton oxford shirts and natural linens with shiny nylon outerwear and satin striped shirting. Finally, as the sun sets on your perfect day out by the beach, and you fire up the barbecue and open the beers, be quirky and wear a bow-tie and club blazer with your cargo shorts as a nod to the spirit of rule breaking and forward thinking that made America great.
This Spring, the McGregor girl looks back fondly to the ,Fifties but with the street-smart attitude of a woman of the Twenty-First century. Taking the iconic Ivy League staples
of slim chinos, preppy blazers and polo shirts, this collection updates them and mis-matches them to give a whole new, fresh energy. Sporty is thrown together with smart, rugby shirts worn with pencil skirts, and checks mixed with flowers with results that are sexy, modern and unexpected.
Fabrics are predominantly natural and soft with lots of cotton mixes and linens but given a kitschy edge with the introduction of lurex knits or bird prints. Femininity is key
with soft summer dresses -- just perfect for a walk on the beach! - and curvy Fifties silhouettes but is given a tougher sporty feel by bold colour blocking or rugby-style stripes.
The McGregor girl may admire the style of bygone eras but she is determined to bring to it her own, modern vision of the future.
