This Sea-Craft Looks Like A Plane, Has A Car's Engine, And Docks Like A Boat

03:15
The AirFish-8 is an alternative method of sea transportation, combining the technologies of aviation and marine craft.  Company Wigetworks have created AirFish-8, a boat/plane hybrid that glides on water. Due to the machines unique structure, it is able to utilise what is known as the "Wing in Ground Effect." This is when an aircraft is able to produce additional lift when flying near the ground. AirFish-8 has a V8 car engine, which runs on unleaded petrol and can travel up to 121 mph; that's three times faster than typical marine craft.  The sea-craft is currently still in a trial phase but the company hope to have it fully operational by mid-2018. _________________________________________ Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/sai FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/techinsider TWITTER: https://twitter.com/techinsider INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/tech_insider/

SEA SHIPPING / Freight Forwarders - Everything you need to know - USA and UK

(Middleman) - Freight Charge Terms FOB – Free on Board (or Freight on Board). This basically means that the cost of delivering the goods to the nearest port is included but YOU, as the buyer, are responsible for the shipping from there and all other fees associated with getting the goods to your country/address. EXW (Ex-Works) – also sometimes referred to as the Ex-Factory price. This basically means the cost of the product and nothing else! No shipping costs or export fees in China are included in this price, never mind local port and custom fees or delivery to your door. CIF – Cost, Insurance and Freight. In this case, the price also includes sea freight charges and insurance to deliver the goods to YOUR nearest port. But only to the port – from that point onwards, you take the shipment into your hands. CNF – Cost & Freight (or Cost, no Insurance, Freight). Similar to CIF only this time insurance is not included. DDP - Is a transaction where the seller (Manufacturer) pays for the total costs associated with transporting goods and is fully responsible for the goods until they are received and transferred to the buyer. This is the best type of shipping arrangement if your supplier is handling the entire shipment as they deal with everything for you. What do you need? (UK) Bill of Lading ⁃ Supplier (shipper) ⁃ Importer ⁃ delivery address ⁃ instructions ⁃ bill of lading number ⁃ Carrier name ⁃ Freight charge terms (FOB - CIF) ⁃ Commodity Description ⁃ Quantity Commercial Invoice ⁃ States value ⁃ For customs ⁃ For VAT Packing List / Shipping list / waybill /delivery list ⁃ Quantity, type of products Fee Breakdown Freight Forwarder - Total - £348 - Terminal Handling - £69 - Documentation - £100 - Co-Loader Fee - £30 - Customs Clearance - £45 - Pallet Fee x1 - £9.50 - Delivery to warehouse - £95 ——— Sea Shipping - Everything you need to know! What If You Dug a Tunnel Under the Ocean?

09:21
It takes approximately 8 hours and 15 minutes to get from London to New York by plane. If you choose to take a trip by ship, you'll spend almost a week in the ocean. But what about traveling a distance of 3,460 miles within an hour? Yup, a new type of transportation might appear in the world! Futuristically fast trains that resemble transport capsules from sci-fi movies are supposed to move through low-pressure tunnels. Researchers from the USA and China are already working on this project. Some specialist are as optimistic as to predict the appearance of this new revolutionary type of transport in the next 10 years! TIMESTAMPS: The idea of “vacuum trains” 1:33 How does it work theoretically 2:21 What could make this type of transportation even faster 3:41 How to create such a construction 4:26 Can you drill the ocean floor? 4:42 Or can you leave the tunnel floating in the water? 6:14 Or could the tunnel lie on the ocean floor? 7:21 How much could the tunnel cost? 8:00 #moderntransportation #futureinventions #futuretechnology Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - American engineer Robert Goddard created several prototypes of a vacuum train that could connect the biggest American cities. Since then, a lot of designers have been working on the implementation of this idea. - According to Ernst G. Frankel, shipping expert and professor emeritus from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, such a vacuum tube may give us the advantage of high speeds. - There must be huge pumps, approximately 30 miles apart, to help keep a near vacuum in the tunnel. The air leak would happen through the end stations. - However, there's something that could make this type of transportation even faster: the combination of the vacuum train with another technology, for example, magnetic levitation. - If you went for the first option, you’d have to drill the rock of the ocean floor. But the Atlantic Ocean is incredibly deep, and its average depth reaches 12,000 ft. You can imagine how huge the water pressure is at the bottom! - The other way to build the tunnel is to leave it floating in the water. On the positive side, you wouldn't have to dig through thousands of miles of hard rock. Thus, this would take much less time. - There is an option of building a tunnel that would lie on the ocean floor. But this alternative doesn't eliminate all the problems of the tunnel construction such as huge water pressure, big depths, and the difference of these depths. - Whatever method of tunnel construction we choose, the biggest problem remains unsolved: the incredible cost of the tunnel. The total sum needed to finish the construction of the tunnel could hit $12 trillion! Six Months At Sea In The Merchant Marine

22:05
In this short documentary, I tried to answer some of the common questions that I usually get about shipping. The footage I took myself using fairly basic cameras that I could fit in my pocket while I was on the job as a deckhand. The story follows me on a six month journey around the world on a container ship which was on a run between New York and Singapore via the Suez Canal. This was my first time going to sea on a large ship so everything was relatively new to me, therefore please excuse the couple of shipping terms I misused (such as saying "license" when I should have said "credential"). I have been on many ships since and will continue to ship out for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching. South china sea : China completes fourth round of sea trials for new Aircraft Carrier

South china sea : China completes fourth round of sea trials for new Aircraft Carrier SUBSCRIBE my channel here: https://goo.gl/F8gn4Z G+ here: https://goo.gl/UzMJVe ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- China could have its first domestically built aircraft carrier in commission within a few months, after completing the latest round of sea trials on the Type 002 vessel. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy’s (PLAN) first locally designed and built aircraft carrier returned from its fourth set of trials in the Yellow Sea to the Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company (DSIC) shipyard. The vessel, which is yet to be officially named, is believed to have carried out a number of advanced tests during the latest trial, including flyover tests and touchdowns on deck, and could be delivered by Chinese Navy Day on 23 April, according to Beijing-based military expert Li Jie. “The engineers have gained experience after working on the Liaoning – such as what are the key issues or weaknesses the tests should focus on, and which areas are less likely to be problems,” Li said. “So that means the testing on this vessel will move faster than for the Liaoning, it will take less time.” The Type 002 is based on the Liaoning, which is China's only operational aircraft carrier for the time being. China bought the Kuznetsov Class carrier in 1998 when the vessel was half built, and began refitting the warship in 2005.  The Liaoning was commissioned in 2012, with the Type 002 featuring a number of changes despite drawing inspiration from the carrier. The Chinese-designed and built carrier will be able to carry 32 J-15 fighter jets, six more than the Liaoning is able to transport. The Type 002 also features a bigger aircraft hangar and an updated design for the control tower and bridge, as well as more up-to-date radar and electronic systems. Previous sea trials for the vessel (expected to be named Shandong) took place in May, August and October 2018. The first round of trials was used to test the "reliability of the flattop's power and propulsion systems". What is FREIGHT FORWARDER? What does FREIGHT FORWARDER mean? FREIGHT FORWARDER meaning & explanation

04:30
I MAKE CUTE BABIES - https://amzn.to/2DqiynS What is FREIGHT FORWARDER? What does FREIGHT FORWARDER mean? FREIGHT FORWARDER meaning - FREIGHT FORWARDER definition - FREIGHT FORWARDER explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. A freight forwarder, forwarder, or forwarding agent, also known as a non-vessel operating common carrier (NVOCC), is a person or company that organizes shipments for individuals or corporations to get goods from the manufacturer or producer to a market, customer or final point of distribution. Forwarders contract with a carrier or often multiple carriers to move the goods. A forwarder does not move the goods but acts as an expert in the logistics network. These carriers can use a variety of shipping modes, including ships, airplanes, trucks, and railroads, and often multiple modes for a single shipment. For example, the freight forwarder may arrange to have cargo moved from a plant to an airport by truck, flown to the destination city, then moved from the airport to a customer's building by another truck. International freight forwarders typically handle international shipments. International freight forwarders have additional expertise in preparing and processing customs and other documentation and performing activities pertaining to international shipments. Information typically reviewed by a freight forwarder includes the commercial invoice, shipper's export declaration, bill of lading and other documents required by the carrier or country of export, import, and/or transshipment. Much of this information is now processed in a paperless environment. The FIATA shorthand description of the freight forwarder as the 'Architect of Transport' illustrates the commercial position of the forwarder relative to its client. In Europe, some forwarders specialize in 'niche' areas such as rail-freight, and collection and deliveries around a large port. One of the earliest freight forwarders was Thomas Meadows and Company Limited of London, England, established in 1836. According to "Understanding the Freight Business," written and published by the executive staff of Thomas Meadows and Company in 1972, the advent of reliable rail transport and steamships created demand for the fledgling freight forwarding industry. Trade developed between Europe and North America, creating additional demand. The first international freight forwarders were innkeepers in London who held and re-forwarded the personal effects of their hotel guests. The original function of the forwarder was to arrange for carriage by contracting with various carriers. Forwarder responsibilities included advice on documentation and customs requirements in the country of destination. His correspondent agent overseas looked after his customers' goods and kept him informed about matters that would affect movement of goods. In modern times the forwarder accepts the same responsibilities. It operates either as a domestic carrier or otherwise with a corresponding agent overseas or with his own branch-office. In a single transaction, the forwarder may be acting as a carrier (principal) or as an agent for his customer or both. International freight forwarders, NVOCCs and customs brokers often charge for transferring documents to another transportation company at destination. This fee is a part of the ocean freight charges, being paid by the importer at the port of discharge in the International Commercial Term (incoterm) FOB (free on board), and by the exporter at the origin in the incoterms CFR (cost and freight) and CIF (cost, insurance and freight). This fee is separate from documentation fees charged by carriers and NVOCCs as part of the freight charges on a bill of lading and is separate from other fees for document preparation or for release of cargo. Some companies call this an administration fee, document fee, document transfer fee, but it exists in some form in most destinations and is well known to most shippers. Steamship carriers do not have this fee.

ROYAL NAVY AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORT DOCK HMS ALBION RETURNING TO SEA

03:01
ROYAL NAVY AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORT DOCK HMS ALBION RETURNING TO SEA Royal Navy amphibious transport dock HMS Albion is scheduled to sail from Devonport Naval Base at the end of the week after spending almost six years tied to port in “extended readiness”. In late 2011 the ship was placed at extended readiness, following the decision by the UK Government in the Strategic Defence and Security Review to operate only one of two amphibious ships at a time. To be able to return to sea from mothballs, HMS Albion underwent a £90 million mid-life technical upgrade. In 2015 Babcock Marine began work on the ship’s rejuvenation. In one of Devonport’s largest dry-docks Albion rested temporarily whilst her hull was inspected, and major invasive structural work and re-preservation of the paint scheme was undertaken. Twelve months later, she was refloated and moved to the non-tidal basin at which point the propulsion and weapon systems were brought alive. In January of this year 350 sailors and royal marines of her ships company moved back on board and in March the ship was moved to her home berth at Weston Mill. The capability improvements are significant and necessary and will allow the ship to serve well into 2030s. During the refit 110 improvements have been made. The most significant being the state-of- the-art Phalanx defensive Close in Weapon System, a new propulsion cooling system to allow the ship to operate more effectively in warmer climates, upgraded surveillance radar and combat system computer brain to manage all the weapons and systems. HMS Albion now undertakes an intensive sea trials package to confirm performance of all her systems, followed by operational sea training. The ship is scheduled to sail from Devonport Naval Base at the end of the week. Vascular Plants = Winning! - Crash Course Biology #37

11:54
Hank introduces us to one of the most diverse and important families in the tree of life - the vascular plants. These plants have found tremendous success and the their secret is also their defining trait: conductive tissues that can take food and water from one part of a plant to another part. Though it sounds simple, the ability to move nutrients and water from one part of an organism to another was a evolutionary breakthrough for vascular plants, allowing them to grow exponentially larger, store food for lean times, and develop features that allowed them to spread farther and faster. Plants dominated the earth long before animals even showed up, and even today hold the world records for the largest, most massive, and oldest organisms on the planet. 5 Mistakes New Importers Make When Importing Products from China

13:39
Discover the 5 mistakes new importers make when they are importing products from China. Don’t make the same mistakes! Get our free ebook: http://wholesaleted.com/4-step Freightos: http://wholesaleted.com/go/freightos First mistake importers make when importing products from China: Assuming that shipping by sea will be the cheapest option A lot of new importers think they will save money if they ship by sea rather than air. On the surface it seems cheaper as importers usually pay around 60 cents/KG when shipping via sea, compared to the $7/KG when shipping by air courier. Unfortunately what they don’t realize is that the reason it’s that cheap is because when shipping via sea, you ship via container, and you need to rent an entire container. They are very large and require you to be shipping hundreds of KGs to be making it worth your time. If you are an Amazon private label seller, you are unlikely to have enough stock being shipped to fill a container by at least 60-70% so it will be cheaper to ship by air. When shipping by air, you have two options: 1) Air freight 2) Air courier Air courier is when you have your items shipped door-to-door. It is the easiest but the most expensive per KG (although in smaller quantities it is cheaper). Air freight is when you have your items flown from one airport to the other. You will need to organize other additional services: * Having the items delivered to the airport * A customs broker * Having the items delivered from the airport to the final location. There are a lot of fixed fees with this which means it becomes cheaper to use air freight with larger quantities. To figure out which option will be cheaper for you, I recommend using Freightos. Second mistake importers make when importing products from China: Not using the Metric system In China, they use the Metric system and not the Imperial system. So be sure to use KGs instead of lbs and CM instead of inches. It’s important to remember that when working with Chinese suppliers that they expect you to work on their terms and their timeframes. It can be frustrating, but it’s worth it for the cheap Chinese products you import! Third mistake importers make when importing products from China: Using Less than Container Load for shipping When shipping by sea, you have two options: 1) FCL which stands for Full Container Load 2) LCL which stands for Less than Container Load Inexperienced importers fall for the trap of shipping with LCL because they see that the price are extremely cheap. What they don’t realize is that these LCL companies have special deals with the ports to charge you extremely high Destination Service Charges. The LCL companies then make their money in the form of a “rebate” which is essentially commissions/kickbacks. Destination Service Charges are usually priced per-container and cost between $500-$1000 per container for ports in the USA. But when shipping by LCL you end up paying a high fee per cubic meters. It means that you often end up paying a fee comparable to shipping an entire container. Don’t fall for this trap: If you can’t break even with FCL, then ship by air. Fourth mistake importers make when importing products from China: not calculating the correct duties you will need to pay When you import products from China, you will need to pay duties at the border. If you don’t calculate the correct rate you can get a shock if it comes back as more than you expected. Duties can be a bit complicated to work out because there are a lot of variables. For example, if you imported woolen jackets, you need to consider which country the wool came from, as some countries (like Israel) have duty-free agreements over wool, which would reduce the duties you had to pay. On the other hand if synthetic fibres were used instead of pure wool, then your duty rates would be higher since there are higher duties applied to synthetic fibres within the USA. To figure out what your duty rate is, find out what the HTS (Harmonized Tax System) code is for your item. To find this, ask your Chinese supplier as they will most likely know. You can then go through the HTS manual and find what the duty rate is for the HTS code of your products. Fifth mistake importers make when importing products from China: being afraid to make mistakes And finally - don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Through making mistakes you learn how to overcome them the next time and make even more money. Mistakes are apart of entrepreneurship. Learn from others - and learn from your own as well!

Osmosis in Potato Strips - Bio Lab

05:20
Flipped learning lesson on this osmosis lab HERE: http://sciencesauceonline.com/bio/osmosis-lab/ Follow me on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sciencesauce_online/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/science_sauce/ Web: http://sciencesauceonline.com/ Osmosis is a special type of diffusion that applies to water and other solvents. If you take a litre of pure water, and compare it to a litre of sea water, which is very salty, there is less water present in sea water litre because some of that litre is occupied by salt. The saltwater has a lower water potential. If there is a partially permeable membrane, like a cell membrane, separating two different samples of water, there will be a net movement of water from the place with higher water potential to the place with lower water potential. This is the reason plant roots take in water: the rain water the enters the soil has a higher water potential than inside of the roots, so water moves into the roots by osmosis. We can demonstrate this in a lab setting using potatoes. First you’ll need a cork borer to get your potato strips. Push it through the potato, then use the narrower piece to push the strip out. For this experiment we need 18 strips. Once you’ve got as much as you need, tidy them up with a knife to remove the skins. All strips need to be the same length to begin with. He we’re cutting them all down to 6cm. Once they’re ready, get 6 beakers and put 3 tubes in each. This will give you three repeats for each solution. Next thing to do is make your solutions. Put a sheet of paper on the balance, hit “tare” to get starting point of zero, and add the salt until it reads “1g”. Once that’s in the beaker, you need 100 mL of water. Pour into the measuring cylinder keeping your eyes on level with “100mL” until it reaches the line. And then add that to your salt. Here we’ve just made a salt solution of “1 g per 100mL”. In this experiment we need six solutions: 0g per 100ml, which is just pure water, and 1 to 5 g/ 100mL in 1 g increments. Once the solutions are ready, pour them in to immerse the potato strips. Start the timer, and leave them for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes your have to measure all of the strips. Measure them as accurately as possible. To the nearest mm is good for this experiment. As you’re working with the potato strips you probably notice that the once immersed in more concentrated solutions are more soft, which the ones immersed in lower concentrations are much more turgid. Make a quick note of each value you measure as you’re going. To process the data you need a table of results with all concentrations listed, as well as the starting lengths of the strips. These all started at 6.0cm. In the next column put in the values your measured, and then calculate the percentage change for each individual strip. Notice the negative sign on some values, this tells us whether the strips increased or decreased in length. Next you can take an average of changes in length. These are the values that we need to put on a graph. The graph should show the average change in length against the salt concentration. And the results from this experiment show a nice downward curve. The lower salt concentrations result in an increase in length of the potato strip, meaning water has ENTERED the potato strips by osmosis. This means there is a higher water potential inside the solution compared with the potato. We have a hypotonic solution. At higher salt concentrations, however, we have a decrease in potato strip length. This tells us the water potential is higher inside of the potatoes, so water as left the potato strips by osmosis. We can say that the solutions are hypertonic to the potatoes. At the point the graph crosses zero, which is about 1.4 g/100mL salt, the solution is isotonic, meaning the water potential inside potato is equal to the solution, to at that point there is no net movement of water.
