Six Months At Sea In The Merchant Marine
In this short documentary, I tried to answer some of the common questions that I usually get about shipping. The footage I took myself using fairly basic cameras that I could fit in my pocket while I was on the job as a deckhand. The story follows me on a six month journey around the world on a container ship which was on a run between New York and Singapore via the Suez Canal. This was my first time going to sea on a large ship so everything was relatively new to me, therefore please excuse the couple of shipping terms I misused (such as saying "license" when I should have said "credential"). I have been on many ships since and will continue to ship out for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching. LOOKING FOR A JOB IN SINGAPORE? WATCH THIS!! Hey guys!! Welcome to my channel my name is Eve and welcome to another episode of HOW TO in Singapore. In this playlist I will share with you my tips, tricks, and hacks about living inSsingapore and anything fun in between. In today's video let me share with you my thoughts on : • Have you ever thought if it is easy for foreigners living outside of Singapore, to get a job here? The answer is… it is not easy it has never been easy and it will never be, this is to protect its local workforce from unemployment and rising number of competition between locals and foreign workers., although Singapore has a demand for foreign workers, that would be for a specific type of skills or industries. Now let’s discuss the hiring process of a local company has to go through involving a foreign talent. If you notice when you’re checking jobs online most posting state only for Singapore and and PR this is to prioritize local residents and citizens of Singapore, plus the fact that the foreign talents are control by ministry of manpower. What is MOM? is a ministry of the Government of Singapore which is responsible for the formulation and implementation of Labour policies related to the workforce in Singapore. Now going back to the hiring procedure, a local companies has to comply with all the regulations on hiring foreign workers. In Singapore companies cannot just hire foreign workers right away. 1. Minimum CPF contribution is required before hiring FW. 2. The company needs to Calculate foreign worker Qouta let me show you a demonstration on this , ---- 3. Foreign Levy – as I have mentioned in my previous video, companies in Singapore has to pay a foreign worker levy to Singapore government for hiring foreigner. The Levy rate will be depending on the tier or level, like level 1 for Malaysian worker levey rate is at 400, level 2 is 600 and so on, now Spass ha a higher Levey roughly around 600 to 800 depending on the level. 4. Submit work pass application online to Ministry of manpower for approval , in this stage your application can be either pass or denied, nobody can help you, MOM is the BOSS. 5. Moving forward once work pass application has been approved your employer has to get you an insurance , WICA or also known as Work injury compensation act that will cover your injury during working hour. Now let’s proceed to give you some tips how to apply for a job : 1. Create a professional type of CV, a looking professional photo & email address and a cover letter, limit the number of pages to at least 1 to 2 pages. 2. While you are away from Singapore, start sending you CV on various job search online, that way you can set up a meeting before flying in. like monster.com, jobstreet, jobsdb etc. 3. Make sure that the position you are applying for matches your skills to avoid wasting time and effort 4. Practice for possible interview questions and responses. 5. You can also look for manpower agencies that can help you find job, just be aware that not all agencies are legit, some of them are just trying to get some cash from you. 6. Do not be choosy or boastful if you got a job offer, jump in and work your way up., remember there’s a lot of fishes in the sea waiting to be caught, not just you! Thank you for staying with me , if you enjoy this video please give it a massive thumbs up, share it to your friends and relatives, Hit subscribe if you haven’t already, leave your comment if you have suggestion what to discuss on my next How to in singapore video, & I’ll see you next time! My boyfriend left his job here in Singapore... so what are we doing?
Hello and welcome back to Singapore! I filmed this video in Jan 2019 and I am a bit behind on vlogs. Hope you enjoy! This is vlog #1 out of 5 for this Singapore in January Series I just got back to Singapore from New Zealand and had a beautiful time in my boyfriend's country. We only had a few days in Singapore before we headed off for a business trip to San Francisco for James' new job! James has never met any of his colleagues in person before so this is why we are taking the trip all the way to Silicon Valley in the United States. I was pretty busy in Singapore unpacking from New Zealand, doing a million loads of laundry, taking care of the house, packing for San Francisco, and taking on a sudden increase of freelance work for myself. In this video I am addressing why my boyfriend, James left his job and why we are in Singapore right now instead of San Francisco. If you don't know already but GuavaPass (the company James worked for a few years) just got bought out by ClassPass. It wasn't working with the plans that we had to move to America so he spent some time looking for a new job and happened to land an amazing opportunity and a HUGE jump in his career (and huge pay raise) by taking on a new job for a small start up in Silicon Valley with some really awesome individuals. I am so proud of him everyday and he inspires me so much! Marine Logistics - Best Career to Get Abroad Jobs | Career Guidance
This Video is about " Marine Logistics - Best Career to Get Abroad Jobs | Career Guidance" By Anchor Ipshita. Visit http://www.freshersworld.com?src=Youtube for Job openings through out india In the last two decades, increased globalisation has witnessed a significant growth in the movement of goods across international borders. Despite the development in technology and introduction of faster modes of transportation, shipping or marine logistics still remains one of the mainstays of the international movement of goods. Therefore, this sector has the maximum scope of employment from entry level to management levels. It varies from managing ships to managing the ports, to marketing of many related services. What do they do? Marine logistics involves overseeing the movement of goods by sea. Besides navigation and engineering, all the other operations related to ports/terminals and actual maritime transportation comes under marine logistics. It includes scheduling, marketing of space, booking of cargo, safe transportation of cargo from one point to another, loading and unloading, supervision and liaison with customers. Skills Needed • Good knowledge of maritime vessels, marine engineering, wireless technology, hydrography • Hands-on experience of working on ships • Domain knowledge of a particular industry • Knowledge of supply chain management is essential at the managerial level • In-depth marine knowledge with adequate sailing experience How do I get there? There are two streams in marine logistics: nautical science and engineering. You can take admission to a maritime training institute through a test after class 12 (only for science students). For nautical science, you can do a three-year BSc programme and for marine engineering, you can pursue a four-year BTech. After graduation, you can join as apprentice and appear in different levels of competency exams after requisite sailing experience. A graduate may get into marine logistics after doing a related MBA programme from a reputable institute. Pros & Cons about this career • It is a sunrise industry, hence growth prospects are good; Salary is low at entry level but it increases as you go up the ladder • In the pecking order of organisational functions, supply chain and logistics is not considered as important as marketing, manufacture or finance For more jobs & career information and daily job alerts, subscribe to our channel and support us. Singapore 1 In 3 Graduate On Contract Job
Saved for the recession year of 2008, Singapore has been growing at a rate between 3 to 7 percent in the last decade. As GDP figures and the salaries of PAP ministers continue to grow, one will expect Singaporeans to hold full-time jobs which pay better, but this is not the case. Recent figures from the Ministry of Manpower revealed that the number of Singaporeans on contract jobs has been growing over the last four years and as high as 34.3 percent of employees on term contracts hold a polytechnic diploma or a degree. This means that one in three poly or varsity graduate in Singapore is unable to secure a full-time job. The Straits Times has been trying desperately hard to promote contract jobs as a form of flexible workforce which is becoming increasingly acceptable in Singapore. It quoted anonymous human resource experts as saying that working under such contracts is becoming the norm, especially as the concept of a flexible workforce becomes increasingly in vogue. The situation is further exacerbated by the relentless influx of cheap foreign workers into Singapore who are willing to accept such temporary jobs at much lower pay and longer working hours. The root cause of the problem lies with the ease in which foreigners are given work permits, E and S passes to work in Singapore.
