Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. SQL SELECT statement database basics tutorial: learning, writing, using, examples

18:36
SQL SELECT statement is the most commonly used command. Our SQL basics tutorial teaches you (writing and using) that SQL SELECT statement is used to query or retrieve data from a table in the database. Get more on Portnov Computer School website - http://www.portnov.com A query may retrieve information from specified columns or from all of the columns in the table. To create a simple SQL SELECT Statement, you must specify the column(s) name and the table name. The whole query is called SQL SELECT Statement. The SQL SELECT statement returns a result set of records from one or more tables. A SELECT statement retrieves zero or more rows from one or more database tables or database views. In most applications, SELECT is the most commonly used Data Manipulation Language (DML) command. As SQL is a declarative programming language, SELECT queries specify a result set, but do not specify how to calculate it. The database translates the query into a "query plan" which may vary between executions, database versions and database software. This functionality is called the "query optimizer" as it is responsible for finding the best possible execution plan for the query, within applicable constraints. Expressions combine many arithmetic operators, they can be used in SELECT, WHERE and ORDER BY Clauses of the SQL SELECT Statement. Here we will explain how to use expressions in the SQL SELECT Statement. About using expressions in WHERE and ORDER BY clause, they will be explained in their respective sections. The operators are evaluated in a specific order of precedence, when more than one arithmetic operator is used in an expression. The order of evaluation is: parentheses, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction. The evaluation is performed from the left to the right of the expression.

Using Flashback Table with Flashback Version Query

02:24
Oracle Flashback Technology is a group of Oracle Database features that let you view past states of database objects or to return database objects to a previous state without using point-in-time media recovery. Oracle Flashback Version Query Use this feature to retrieve metadata and historical data for a specific time interval (for example, to view all the rows of a table that ever existed during a given time interval). Metadata for each row version includes start and end time, type of change operation, and identity of the transaction that created the row version. To create an Oracle Flashback Version Query, use the VERSIONS BETWEEN clause of the SELECT statement. Oracle Flashback Table Use this feature to restore a table to its state at a previous point in time. You can restore a table while the database is on line, undoing changes to only the specified table.

New to Oracle and .NET development? This video gives you everything you need to know to get up and running quickly! We walk you through downloading and installing the needed Oracle software and then connecting in Visual Studio and creating a simple C# application. The video starts at the Oracle .NET Developer Technology Center website at http://otn.oracle.com/dotnet We then download the "ODTwithODAC" package, extract it and run the installer. Note that ODAC version 12 works with Oracle Database versions 10.2 or higher. After installing we connect in Server Explorer and learn about the connection dialog features, including the Filters tab which by default filters out additional schemas you may have privileges on. We connect to the database using the easy to use EZ connect format. Finally we create a simple C# application and connect to the database using ODP.NET Managed driver and a EZ Config connect string. Prerequisites: 1) Visual Studio 2012 or 2013 -- any edition except Express Edition. Visual Studio Community Edition is supported. 2) An Oracle Database to connect to. You will need to know the hostname, port number and service name of the database. Zombies - Time Of The Season HD

03:34
"Time of the Season" is a song by The Zombies, featured on their 1968 album Odessey and Oracle. It was written by keyboard player Rod Argent and recorded at Abbey Road Studios in August 1967. Several other songs from Odessey and Oracle were released as singles prior to "Time of the Season". Columbia Records supported the album and its singles at the urging of new A&R Rep, Al Kooper. One of the singles was the uncommercial sounding "Butcher's Tale", which Columbia thought might catch on as an anti-war statement, at the time a popular trend. "Time of the Season" was only released at Kooper's urging, after previous singles flopped, and made its breakthrough in early 1969, over a year after the band split up. It reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March and #1 in Canada. It did not chart in the band's native Britain, although in mid-1969 it peaked at #2 on the South African hit parade. The song's characteristics include the unique voice of lead singer Colin Blunstone, the memorable bass riff (which is similar to Ben E. King's hit "Stand By Me"), and Rod Argent's fast-paced psychedelic improvisation. The lyrics are an archetypical depiction of the emotions surrounding the Summer of Love. It is famous for such call-and-response verses as "What's your name? (What's your name?) / Who's your daddy? (Who's your daddy?) / Is he rich? (Is he rich like me?)" approximately 50 seconds into the track. Both stereo and monaural original releases contain vocal responses. In 1998, Big Beat Records released a CD reissue of Odessey and Oracle containing both the original stereo and mono versions of "Time of The Season". It also featured a newly remixed alternate version containing instrumental backing underneath the vocals during the entire chorus. These instrumental backings had been mixed out on the original 1968 stereo and mono versions to create a cappella vocal sections. Music critic Antonio Mendez called it one of the sublime songs on Odessey and Oracle. "Time of The Season" is frequently used in pop culture to represent the late 1960s. In that sense, it is featured in the films 1969, Awakenings, A Walk on the Moon and Riding the Bullet, all of which depict the year of 1969. "Time of the Season" is played in the background of The Simpsons episode "D'oh-in In the Wind", in which Homer decides to follow the footsteps of his mother and become a hippie. In the South Park episodes "The Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka" and "201" it is used in flashback scenes portraying the Vietnam War. It was also featured in the 2005 film Dear Wendy, it is also referenced in the final words of Dick's letter addressed to Wendy. The song was also featured on the HBO series, Big Love. The NBC series American Dreams, which depicts the mid and late 1960s in American society, featured the song in its third season episode "So Long, Farewell". "Tell Her No" and "She's Not There", The Zombies' other major hits in the U.S., were also used in the show; the latter were included in the series' soundtrack. It is also common for the song to appear in romantic scenes, as in the aforementioned film 1969. In the Friends episode "The One With the Flashback", the song is played in a dream sequence where Rachel fantasizes about Chandler. In the final scene of the Will and Grace episode "Marry Me A Little", it is used to represent Grace's joy after marrying Leo. "Time of the Season" is also featured in a scene of the 1999 NBC miniseries The '60s. The song's usage in this particular scene was anachronistic, however, since it was supposed to portray 1965. The same is true of the film Shanghai Knights, which is supposed to depict 1887. "Time of the Season" has been featured in several TV commercials, such as a 1999 Tampax ad set at the Woodstock Festival, a 2005 Fidelity Investments commercial, a 2006 ad for Sprite (in which a chorus of flowers with human faces performs an a cappella version of the song, a 2006 ad for Magners Irish Cider, and a 2008 Crest ad in Mexico. It was also used in the advertising campaigns of Nissan Tiida in Japan (2004), Greece (2007), and Russia (2008). In sports, it was featured in "Free Your Mind", the 16th video in the Transworld Skateboarding series. During the 2006 playoffs, the song was played in Shea Stadium as the home-team New York Mets took the field. The song appears on the video game Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore and DJ Hero. The song appears in the movie The Debt released in the U.S. in August 2011. The song is regularly played with a psychedelic video at Las Vegas' Fremont Street Experience on a four-block long Viva Vision overhead screen with a 500,000 watt sound system, the video titled Signs of Life. The song was played during the 2013 supernatural horror movie The Conjurin. Wikipedia

Should I Learn Oracle or SQL Server?

02:17
Should I learn Oracle or SQL Server? While Oracle DBA certification pays well, the classes and getting a practice version of Oracle is expensive. I heard you could get versions of SQL Server for free. Part of it depends on the software developers you're working with. Use SQL Server if you're working with Microsoft's .Net, whereas Java developers are more likely to use Oracle. I didn't know that SQL Server was a Microsoft brand. So if you'll be working on MS servers and MS databases, you need to learn the SQL server. Which one is better for my career? There are typically more MS SQL jobs, but the Oracle jobs pay more. Oracle doesn't have as many jobs, but you have less competition. Those who didn't join the Microsoft cult pay a price for it. Which one is harder to learn? Oracle is rather complex, whereas MS SQL Server is simpler because it has a good graphical user interface. It's nice to hear that Microsoft made at least one good user interface. They usually put out crap, but once in a while, there's a good one. I've heard MySQL is more popular. Only because of the so called popularity of Microsoft. Oracle is the heavyweight database tool. Which relational database is better? MySQL works with almost any web-based application. Oracle is more stable, secure and scalable for enterprise wide applications. I'm glad to know that the big data that is running the world isn't all beholden to Bill Gates. No, but most PCs that generate the data still are. It sounds like I need to learn Oracle. Fortunately, you can learn Oracle inside and out and a little MS SQL and do almost any database admin job you'd like. You're guaranteed to get dates if you can proudly announce you have stable, well paying employment. It's like saying you're a musician, artist and athlete at once. Girls will just be happy if she doesn't have to pay for the date these days.

How to install Java on Windows XP

09:32
This video explains how to install Java on a Windows XP system. Steps: 1) Search for JDK on Google. 2) You'll land into an Oracle.com URL like this one: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/es/java/javase/downloads/index.html 3) Select the JDK link and then select the latest version. 4) Read the license, if you agree with it accept it, and select the right download for your machine. If you need to know if your machine is a 32 bits or a 64 bits one, use the advice from this KB page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/827218 5) Once it's downloaded execute it and get it installed. 6) When it finish installing, make sure the Java runtime works (java.exe) and that the compiler works too (javac.exe). 7) If the compiler is not found, add the directory where it was installed to the PATH environment variable. Then also add the JDK installation directory into a new environment variable named JAVA_HOME, this will help you with other programs in the future.

Version based database migration with Liquibase

10:47
Today, I want to talk about version-based database migration with Liquibase. Creating the database for your application seems to be easy as long as you don’t need to support multiple versions or work in multiple teams. You just generate an SQL script from your database model or in the worst case, export the required statements from your test database. You can then execute it manually or use JPA to do that automatically. This approach doesn’t work as soon as you need to support multiple versions of your application. And extracting the required changes from the test database becomes a huge mess when the size of your team and the number of changes increases. You can avoid some of these problems when you create the database update scripts, while working on the next release, and store them alongside your code in git or whichever version control system you use. Whenever someone gets the latest code changes, he will also get the required database changes. With the right tooling in place, you will even be able to apply these changes automatically. One tool that can help you with that is Liquibase. If you like this video, please give me your thumbs up and share it with your friends and co-workers. Like my channel?
