In this video I take on DJI Ronin's focus wheel compatibility with the Canon 5D Mark III. I also test the functionality with Magic Lantern Nightly Build. It turns out that all I needed was a micro USB to mini USB adapter. The new functions is actual an digital follow focus so now dont need to turn the focus ring but just while holding something in front of the LCD sensor you can press up to focus in for in the distance or press down to focus to something close up. You can change the focus speed at the rack focus speed setting inside the Magic Lantern menu. This is a rather exciting camping and hiking light with some unusual features. Mainly the mains voltage referenced USB charging port and the equally mains referenced chrome ring round the flashlight button. This is definitely one for my electrical deathtrap collection. If you have one of these then I would strongly recommend you either dispose of it or take extreme care when charging it from wall power as it does pose a high shock risk. I test the audio quality using a iRig Pre running into a Canon T2i DSLR. I also talk about some hacks that can be done to make the rig Pre more useful for low/micro Budget filmmaking. I use Magic Lantern software on the T2i to disable the Auto Gain Control function. The iRig Pre opens up a whole world of professional microphones for use with DSLR, HDSLR, Zoom H1, Tascam DR-05, Notebook Computers and anything with a 3.5mm mic input. My recommendation for recording quality audio in the camera is to set the rig Pre at its maximum gain before increasing the gain in the camera. When using Magic Lantern set AGC off, Digital Gain off, the Analog Gain to 10 or 17 dB and Low-Z. Only increase the analog gain if necessary. This is a totally amazing device! So many purposes. It contains a camping lantern, a flashlight and a fan. It also works as a USB power bank to recharge your phone. It's rechargeable and it can be charged using a solar panel or a mains plug...... But wait !!! There's mains voltage in my iPhone metal body !!! The problem is that the circuitry is not isolated from the mains. Including the USB port. This is one of the most insanely dangerous products I've seen so far. WARNING: -Do not purchase or use this lantern. -Never do what you see in this video. -Risk of electric shock and death. -Risk of fire. -You do everything at your own risk and responsibility. http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2012/10/30/canon-7d-magic-lantern-alpha-firmware-update/ It only took one month from the time the Magic Lantern team announced the Canon 7d hack solution to the moment they were able to release the alpha version of Magic Lantern for the 7d. The features are still limited, but they've already made good progress with the camera so far. The biggest advantage is the added on screen audio meters. I know that many of you record dual system sound, but sometimes it's simply easier to record directly to the camera if you can. This might not produce the highest audio quality possible, but many times it's more then acceptable when capturing talking heads or other none complex dialog. This release of Magic Lantern is still in alpha, so you will need to load the firmware file into the camera each time you want to use the features. No boot flag is set in the camera and if you run into any problems you can simply shut the camera down and turn it back on to bring it back to it's normal state. The Canon 7d alpha firmware can be downloaded here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/whats-new/104-releases/140-first-7d-alpha-released If you find the firmware useful, consider donating to the Magic Lantern team, even a few dollars helps to support their efforts. Finding new camera bodies to test isn't cheap and every little bit helps. Equipment used: Canon 5d mark III Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 Sennhieser g2 wireless mic

CHECK OUT THIS BLOG POST FIRST! This requires Magic lantern! Check the magic lantern site to make sure your camera is supported! Currently does not work with 7d! http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2011/02/25/more-on-adding-audio-monitoring-to-your-dslr/ Many of the direct recording audio solutions for Canon DSLR Cameras involve large boxes and other random Items in order to get the audio into your camera. But once the audio is being recorded by your camera how do you know if it is any good? Well with the the help of a FiiO e5 headphone amplifier: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002V5M5E6?ie=UTF8&tag=dfn0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002V5M5E6 and a female RCA to 3.5mm adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018MI5F6?ie=UTF8&tag=dfn0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0018MI5F6 You can add audio monitoring functionality to your Canon DSLR Camera (when using a field monitor). I have two people to credit in this video. The first one is Christian Sundsdal. He is the one I mentioned who hooked the rode VideoMic and FiiO e5 together. You can find out more about him here: http://vimeo.com/sundsdal And the second is Youtube member Freyguyproductions. He sent in the question that got me started looking for this solution. You can find his blog here: http://Freyguyproductions.blogspot.com NOTE: Remember this is for use with a field monitor. You need either an HDMI monitor or a little composite input monitor. See: http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2011/01/30/dirt-cheep-monitor-project/ The screen on the camera goes black as soon as you plug the usb-composite adapter into your camera. If you aren't using a field monitor this probably isn't the way to go. Please, turn ON the subtitles to read my comments (press PAUSE if you need)! This video is for test purposes only, so don't judge the overall quality of it. My current setup: Canon 5d mark III (ver.: 1.1.3) with Magic Lantern (experimental crop_rec build, published on 2018-07-22). Ronin-S firmware version: v126.96.36.199 Description: This is my first attempt to connect follow focus (Ronin-S) with Canon 5d mark III and EF16-35 f4 IS (running Magic Lantern). I've used a MicroUSB-to-MiniUSB adapter with an original MCC-MicroUSB cable. In subtitles: This is an original MCC-to-MicroUSB cable with Micro-to-Mini USB adapter When camera is disabled: follow focus blinks red LED As soon as camera booted, we see the continuous green LED light. Keep an eye on a focus peaking (red dots on a left side of a screen) You can hear clicks made by EF lens. When we reach the limit of a focus distance, we're getting the message on a screen. The limits are on both sides. After message is gone, the screen "reloads" the image, and we can see a focusing window for a second. The lens' auto focus works not as usual. It makes loud clicks for each step. This is the maximum speed of focusing on this lens (EF16-35 f4 IS) Now, let's move on to the focus/record button. It doesn't focus on a half press :/ (update: actually it works. I have AF-ON button on my camera, and it is disabled on the main trigger button). With a full push it should start a record. But it only goes to a black screen with overlays, and the record timer stays at 00:00 I've waited for a few minutes, but nothing changes. So, to Start recording we need to press 3 times. With short delays between them. Now it works Nevertheless, it stops recording with only one push. It's nice )) Most of the times, it started recording after 3 pushes of the button. But in some circumstances, it could start recording after the first push. I didn't get a chance to show you it in this video. As it happens only a few times.

Having trouble getting your SD Card to boot up in your Canon DSLR so you can run Magic Lantern? Well if your a Mac OS X or Linux user, you are in luck. In this tutorial I show you how to make that SD Card bootable using the Make Bootable script and have your running Magic Lantern in no time at all. About this tip: The Mac Boot software is a pain to get running. It requires Java, which I have installed, but still does not want to run. I figured if I am having a pain getting this to run, others are likely pulling their hair out as well. The Make Bootable script however can be run on both Linux and Mac OS X. I also found it extremely easy to use, but could require someone with command line experience in BASH. Luckily for everyone here, I do. So I felt this was a great idea for todays Tips & Techniques video. I normally don't try to get to technical in these videos, but this was just to good of information to keep to myself. So I hope everyone enjoys this tech tutorial. I am in the works on make my videos better and more consistent. Which makes then over all more professional looking in the long run. http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2012/03/23/sescom-dslr-550d-hocf-headphone-monitoring-cable/ Note: This cable does not yet work with the t3i. One of the features that makes the Canon 5d Mark III look so attractive is the new audio monitoring port. Canon should have included this port long ago, but I guess there is no point in complaining now. I've covered other methods that allow you to add headphone monitoring to your camera (See link: http://youtu.be/BnEtj5l3acs ), but the Sescom USB to 3.5mm female cable is probably the most elegant. A single cable with no adapters turns out to be a pretty handy method for monitoring audio. This adapter does require Magic lantern to work properly. Also note that the audio output of the Canon t2i maxes out at 6db, which is enough to drive a normal par of headphones but the output level isn't extremely loud. If you need more volume or don't want to adjust headphone levels using the menu, I still recommend adding a headphone amplifier like the Fiio E5 to the mix. You can find the Sescom DSLR-550D-HOCF here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/765530-REG/Sescom_DSLR_550D_HOCF_DSLR_550D_HOCF_A_V_Out_Headphone.html/BI/7611/KBID/8138/kw/SEDSLR550DH/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xSEDSLR550DH And the Fiio Headphone pocket amplifier can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P9EQH8/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=dfn0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001P9EQH8 Equipment used in this video: Canon 7d Canon t2i Canon 24mm f1.4 Canon 35mm f1.4 Sigma 24mm f1.8 Sescom DSLR-550D cable Sennheiser G2 wireless system

But there are still traces of the zebra in the record. And it is not clear what to do with the delay when you press record. Unfortunately this version of the monitorрфы not DVI an option. http://www.learningdslrvideo.com/monitor-t2i-headphones/ Vimeo member Dennis O'Clair produced a fun video showing how you can monitor audio straight from your T2i 550D while you record using a cable he helped developed called the Sescom DSLR-550D-HOCF. I thought that was pretty cool you could actually monitor what you are recording in realtime with your DSLR since this was not even possible until Magic Lantern came out a few months ago for the T2i. Actually, I am not sure why I am so excited since my camcorder has been able to do this for years, but since Canon didn't design this to be a video camera, hey I guess it is pretty cool! You can create this cable yourself if you like but it can become a mess of cords and since several cables are in the mix you have more points of failure so this is an elegant solution for people like myself. You might be saying to yourself, "Hey Dave that is cool, but why not skip this and just use a Zoom H4n?" My answer is I am very lazy in post, I hate adding additional steps to the post production process if I don't have to, and importing more files and sync them is just a time sink I would rather skip if it is a project I can do so. At close to $40 it's definitely on the pricey side, but Dennis tells us why: The cable is expensive to manufacture because the USB mini AV out cable is a unique Canon cable. Sescom uses original Canon cables in the manufacturing process. Unfortunately, at this time there are no other supplier of the USB mini connector.

If you are not able to find a way to shoot time-lapse video from your Canon DSLR camera, this video will help you. By using this Android app, you can shoot time-lapse video by remotely controlling your DSLR camera from a smartphone. All you need is a USB cable that comes with your camera and a USB to C-type/micro-USB adapter. If you have been using Magic Lantern on your Canon DSLR camera, you should switch to this method as this will not cause any damage to your DSLR Camera. This canon time-lapse app allows you to shoot time-lapse from any Canon DSLR such as 80D, 200D, 800D, 1300D, 5D Mark iii, 5D Mark iv, etc. App Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pa.dslrremotecontrol&hl=en USB to C-type Adapter Link: http://amzn.to/2lUQ4bZ Music: Vibe With Me by Joakim Karud http://soundcloud.com/joakimkarud JOIN WHATSAPP DISCUSSION GROUP: https://chat.whatsapp.com/3DGOTFFWpVU7CdvKWufVr5 Follow me on: INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/the.photography.blogger FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/thephotographybloggerindia BLOG: http://www.the-photography-blogger.com Email: [email protected]

This is the original short-film. The whole film Raw shooting by Canon EOS 7D with Magic Lantern. (Also I used AJA CION 4K Raw, GoPro, DJI Phantom.) I shot 1.7K resolution and up-convert to 2K DCI. editing in Adobe Premiere CC, grading in DaVinci Resolve. " During a rare angling trip to the countryside, a city boy stumbles across “uncle,” an old acquaintance whose pursuit of 'mythic mushrooms” he joins. The uncle’s behavior in the forest, however, stirs up questions: Should he continue his life in the city or return to nature? At least, he heads deep into the forest, looking for the lake where a legendary giant fish is said to be roaming.

Like, share and subscribe for newer, better content! Oh, and if you're curious about basic streaming equipment options, check out this other video: https://youtu.be/8fg7YI5MBEA?list=PLiRP3szazGmacv__UqT1ulBGplkr9vhyC Today we begin the first of a few videos comparing Matt's current camera, the Canon Rebel t5i (700D), and a new camera he's been reading about, the Panasonic Lumix G7. The first (and most important difference for Matt's needs) is the HDMI output capabilities of each camera, so let's take a look! If you like what the G7 is capable of, the package Matt purchased can be found at this affiliate link: http://amzn.to/2iqRJDS If you have a Canon camera and want to stick with it, the third party software Matt mentioned is Magic Lantern. It unlocks some neat features, but still won't deliver true clean 1080p over HDMI on the t5i (we're not sure about newer or more robust models). Also, it WILL void your camera's warranty. All that said, find it here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/ If you are interested in flive streaming with a DSLR, here's an affiliate link to the capture card we use: http://amzn.to/2i7IBX5 That's a little on the expensive side for what it is, but offers out-of-the-box cross platform capabilities and works with both USB 2.0 and 3.0. http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2012/08/05/nexus-7-monitor-usb-controller-dslr-controller/ HDMI monitors can run anywhere from $160 to $1000 depending on what you need and what you have for a budget. The Nexus 7 tablet comes in at $200 for the 8 GB model and $250 for the 16 GB model. Add to that the $8.99 DSLR Controller app, and a $3 USB OTG cable and you can use the 1280×800 IPS display on the Nexus 7 to monitor and control your Canon camera through the usb port. The nice thing about using this method is that the screen on the camera stays on while using the monitor. It also has the added bonus of giving you full control of camera functions from the touch screen interface which could be handy for jib operators. After testing out the APP on the Canon t2i with magic lantern, Canon 7d, and 5d mark III, I can say that it works pretty well with the Nexus 7 tablet. There were some strange issues with the Canon 7d. I actually had to reboot the tablet before it would work with the 7d, but I think that might have been caused by changing between cameras. The DSLR Controller is still in beta, so don't expect it to work perfectly, but overall it was a good experience. I think if you're willing to learn the program and sort out the controls it can make a very handy monitor slash controller for your camera. But it's not quit as simple as plugging in a monitor cable and turning it on. Keep that in mind if you plan to use this on a project with time constraints. You can pick up the adapter cable here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005QX7KYU/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=dfn0c-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B005QX7KYU The DSLR controller app can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.dslrcontroller&hl=en The Nexus 7 tablet can be found here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/878214-REG/ASUS_NEXUS7_ASUS_1B16_16GB_Google_Nexus_7_.html/BI/7611/KBID/8138/kw/ASNXUS7A1B16/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xASNXUS7A1B16 Equipment used in this video: Canon t2i Sigma 30mm f1.4 Sigma 24mm f1.8 Canon 16-36mm f2.8 Sennhieser G2 wireless mic

Magic Lantern fix for remote control Record on DIY shoulder Rig. Cris: kimandcris made a mount from cutting board, I saw his video and loved the way it can be custom made for any job. This is my second attempt at creating it, but this time I added two vertical planes to carry a central bar to make shoulder mounting / lifting easier; and low tracking possible. The remote control for RECORD was solved by Magic Lantern; allowed any wireless or wired remote to trigger record. search for kimandcris to get the cutting list for the shoulder mount and go crazy the basic material will bend to any shape you need to mount your equipment. Its like Cutting board Heaven.
