We had so much fun creating this travel guide of our hometown, Salt Lake City! It gave us a fresh perspective of how beautiful our home really is. It goes to show that no matter where you live, you can always find beauty near by. It's all about seeing your home with new eyes! On a different note, we filmed this just three weeks after having Greta, and I loved packing her around in my Solly Baby wraps! To me, there is nothing better than baby wearing. :) Solly Baby wraps: http://sollybaby.com/ -- THANKS FOR SUBSCRIBING & FOLLOWING OUR JOURNEY! -- INSTAGRAM: @haileydevine & @bradleydevine TWITTER: @haileydevine3 & @devine_brad SNAPCHAT: @haileydevine3 & @brad_devine WEBSITE/BLOG: http://www.somewheredevine.com SHOP OUR PRESETS AND TITLE PACKS: https://www.somewheredevine.com/products

Over 10 years ago, Nitro Circus was born in a garage in Salt Lake City. The brainchild of Gregg Godfrey, Jeremy Rawle and Travis Pastrana, it started as a series of DVDs sold out of Gregg's garage. After a number of hugely successful DVDs, the wildly popular MTV series was developed, and from there, the worldwide touring sensation, Nitro Circus Live, was born. A huge part of the Nitro Circus Live crew is the Godfrey Clan, an insanely talented group of Gregg Godfrey's sons and nephews, all of whom were born and raised on the mountains, and in the lakes and rivers, of Salt Lake City. Chanler, Preston, Josh, Ethen and Gavin are all ridiculous action sports athletes, throwing down tricks that have never, ever been done before. On January 17, 2014, the Nitro Circus Live tour returned home to Salt Lake City for the first time in its existence. 16,000 people crammed into the Energy Solutions Arena, in a sold out crowd that was the biggest the arena had seen since the Utah Jazz played in the NBA Finals. Here is a snapshot of one of the loudest, and greatest, Nitro Circus Live shows of all time. Tickets for Australian and South African Tours on sale now! Go to www.nitrocircuslive.com for details!

We continue on our journey south, heading toward Salt Lake City, Utah. We begin in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where Grace and Piper (our Peterbilt 387 semi truck and our Sandpiper fifth wheel RV) get a much needed bath before we hit the highway. We check into the Great Salt Lake State Park, where we camp for four nights along the south shore of the Great Salt Lake. While we're there, we head into downtown Salt Lake City to explore the town. We visit the Mormon Temple and view a session of the Mormon Tabernacle Pipe Organ rehearsal. Then we head over to Liberty Park, where we spend the afternoon wandering through the Tracy Aviary. Before we know it, our time in Salt Lake City has flown by and it's time to hook up the rig and continue on. Utah Travel Vlog - The Travels Of Z exploring downtown Salt Lake City to see historic temple square christmas lights organized by the church of jesus christ of latter day saints, we also enjoyed the Macy's christmas window display in the City Creek Mall and we tried the best hot chocolate in Salt Lake City in Hatch Family Chocolate Company. Temple square is one of the top Utah tourist destination all year long and it definitely should be in the fun things to do in Salt Lake list. ------------------------------- THE TRAVELS OF Z F A C E B O O K https://www.facebook.com/thetravelsofz/ I N S T A G R A M https://www.instagram.com/thetravelsofz/ ------------------------------- C A M E R A DSLR: http://amzn.to/2xHZCQo GO PRO: http://amzn.to/2ynzn0t ------------------------------- The brightest and most remarkable phenomenon that happens in downtown Salt Lake City is when Temple Square comes alive with festive lights and decorations for the Christmas holiday. Find joy and warmth beginning the day after Thanksgiving, when the lights are turned on for the first night. Not to be missed is the marvelous Cedar of Lebanon and the life size nativity scene staged on the lawn in front of the North Visitors Center, bringing focus to the reason for the season. Along with the lights, find inspiration in the handmade paper lanterns bearing the message of “peace” in many different languages, as well as the variety of ethnic nativity scenes on display at the Church Office Building plaza. Traditional Christmas and gospel songs play in the background as you wander through the merrily-lit grounds but be sure to catch live performances from local bands, choirs, and artists that are featured in various venues around the 35 acres of Temple Square, providing the soundtrack to your Christmas time enjoyment. * The lights will be on until 11:00 p.m. during the Mormon Tabernacle Choir concerts; on New Year’s Eve they will be on until 12:30 a.m. at Temple Square and until 1:00 a.m. at the Church Office Building, Main Street, and Conference Center Plazas History of the Lights on Temple Square Christmastime at Temple Square really is the most magical time of year! As Temple Square is dressed in its Christmas best, covered with millions of sparkling lights, beautiful nativities and hopefully fluffy snow, a December visit is the perfect way to capture the Christmas spirit. And while the lights are a real crowd pleaser, do you know how long ago this holiday tradition started? Or where the cedar of Lebanon came from? The Christmas lights tradition started more than 50 years ago—back in 1965. But, the lights on Temple Square nearly didn’t happen. When Deseret News publisher E. Earl Hawkes first proposed the idea to LDS Church President David O. McKay, Temple Square’s head gardener was afraid the heat from the lights would be too harmful to the trees. After some debate, and some who say by the persuasion of his wife, President McKay decided to go ahead with it. President McKay approved and oversaw the Temple Square Christmas lights and tree decorating project as it was referred to back then. He also chose arborist J. Leland Behunin to head the project, who spent six weeks by himself hanging 40,000 lights—without even having a ladder to use! That inaugural lighting ceremony took place on December 9th, at 7:45 p.m. Nearly 15,000 people came to it, where President McKay did the honors of pushing the button to turn the lights on and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang classic holiday songs. A standout on Temple Square in December is the cedar of Lebanon—a 70-foot-tall tree that’s been growing for 75 years. During Christmastime, it’s covered in 75,000 red LED lights, but is only lit every other year to help the tree survive longer. This tree wasn’t always on the Temple Square grounds, though. A woman brought the seed back from the Holy Land and gave it to the Temple Square grounds gardener to plant nearly 75 years ago. Temple Square is the most popular place in Utah to see Christmas lights during the holiday season. After you come for the first time and see how popular it is for yourself, there’s no wonder why it’s so busy! No one knows what the exact number of individual lights is, but it is definitely close to (if not more than) a million. In fact, on the famous red-lit Cedar of Lebanon tree alone on the east side of the Salt Lake Temple, there are 75,000! (but, they only light this tree every other year to preserve this historic Temple Square gem.) To see the lights, come any day between Friday, November 25th and January 1st. The lights turn on every day at 5:30pm and stay on until 10:00pm. There are a few exceptions for this, however. On the nights of the Mormon Tabernacle Christmas Concert, taking place this year on December 8, 9, and 10, the lights will stay on until 11:00pm and on New Year’s Eve, they will stay on until 12:30am.

In 2012, Chard partnered with This is the Place Heritage Park to make a Salt Lake Christkindlmarkt a reality. The success of the market is thanks to a vibrant volunteer committee of 25 individuals who help plan this annual cultural event as well as the generous donations of community sponsors. Visitors stroll through wooden vendor booths nestled against the magical backdrop of This is the Place Heritage Park where they can purchase tantalizing food and unique products while enjoying festive holiday entertainment. A primary goal of the Christkindlmarkt SLC is to focus on the principle of giving to others and celebrating that service. The market is based on the German story of St. Martin who was known to cut his cloak in half and share warmth with a beggar. The signature events of the market are the daily children’s parades honoring St. Martin as well as the children’s groups who have participated in an act of service prior to the market. Our slogan is, “putting the KIND in ChristKINDlmarkt.” The Christkindlmarkt is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating an enriched community event for Salt Lake City. This parade celebrates the historic story of St. Martin who was known to cut his coat in half to share with a beggar. The parade include children and youth who have participated in service singing Christmas carols while marching through the market with illuminated lanterns. The highlight of Chrisktindlmarkt are the daily parades celebrating the good deeds of children. This year, parade entries symbolizing the culture and magic of Germany meander through the plaza. The Thursday night parade highlighted the good deeds of St. Martin and Friday and Saturday parades celebrated the generosity of St. Nicholas.

It’s Salt Lake City. It is not a copy of something else." Most people are surprised when they find out what the locals already know, Salt Lake City has a thriving music scene as unique as the city itself. With a wealth amazing artistic venues, SLC is one of the best places in the country to hear live music from local bands and artists. “There’s no place else you can be this close to this much culture, music, art and, just, environmental goodness. In episode seven of The Window Seat, my travels took me to Utah - both Salt Lake City and the Park City/Kamas area. Most of the days were filled with long 15-17 hour production/work days but once we wrapped, I extended the trip another day to make sure I got in some proper mountain time in the Wasatch. With the Leadville 100 miler looming, I had to seize the opportunity to train high and relish in the beauty of these magnificent peaks. To listen to more of Freeman Dyson’s stories, go to the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVV0r6CmEsFzDA6mtmKQEgWfcIu49J4nN American-British physicist and mathematician, Freeman Dyson, was born in England in 1923. Aged 25, he relocated to Cornell University and has become known for his achievements in the fields of solid state physics, nuclear engineering and quantum field theory. [Listener: Sam Schweber] TRANSCRIPT: So then what happened, after Ann Arbor I then took another Greyhound bus and went all the way to California, which was what the Commonwealth Fund required me to do. I had at least to see California. So I showed up in Berkeley and I didn't know any physicists in Berkeley, so I simply stayed around there for a couple of weeks. And the most memorable thing that happened, there was a young fellow who was lecturing about non-violence, which was a subject that I was deeply interested in, and his name was Martin Luther King. And I'd never heard of him, but I went to hear him lecture and he was just so wonderful that I was deeply impressed with him. That was before he became famous. And otherwise I read the autobiography of Nehru and various other good books. [SS] And you stayed in Berkeley or you stayed in San Francisco? No, I stayed at Berkeley at the International House where the students are put up, so it was good time, but I don't think I had any contact with the physicists there, as far as I remember. [SS] But you went into San Francisco and you looked at the town? I must have, but San Francisco didn't make much impression on me. The place that made really the deep impression was Salt Lake City on the way back. [SS] The Mormons? Yes, the Mormon valleys, these wonderful Mormon temples with the green valleys around them, which looked like Switzerland and that I found much more to my taste than San Francisco.

The lake is incredible, surrounded by lush green mountains. It’s a perfect place in Rwanda to spend some time relaxing, learning about the culture, and eating. One of the main Rwandan foods to eat at Lake Kivu is sambaza, a fish similar to sardines. To begin this food and cultural tour of Gisenyi, Lake Kivu, we first stopped off at the local market, and took a boat ride. They were not allowed to fish on that day to control the fishing, but the fishermen gave us a quick lesson on how they fish, and took us out on a boat just to show us. It was one of the highlights of the day for me. The fishing boats are so peaceful and the rowing songs were amazing. After having a quick snack of some deep fried sambaza, which were delicious, we continued on to one of the biggest fresh markets in Gisenyi. We saw ladies pounding cassava leaves, and stopped to eat some fruit. The tree tomatoes in Rwanda by the way are delicious. Ibyiwacu Restaurant - Next we ate a quick Rwandan food lunch at a local restaurant. Buffets are very common in Rwanda, you choose all your different starches, with beans, and a couple of different sauces, and you can choose if you want meat or without meal. Overall, very good and fresh food, a little plain, but good with some extra chili sauce. Price - 1,500 RWF ($1.70) per person Next we headed to a local home for a home cooked African meal, including some of the local ingredients commonly used in the culture around Lake Kivu. Sambaza are a staple, but since we already had some fried, they made a peanut (groundnut) stew with the fish, and also made some vegetable dishes, with rice, and a number of other starches. The sambaza with peanut sauce was the BEST meal of my entire trip to Rwanda. If you get the full VIP spa treatment, it's under $30 USD at today's exchange rate - for Americans in Mexico, that's a pretty darn good price! That service includes 5 various thermal baths such as a chocolate bath, mud bath, red wine, and apple cider vinegar baths. They do change the baths up from day to day, so you might be in for a suprise! After finishing up with the thermal spa, there are natural saunas with fresh eucalyptus leaves that really do a lot to enhance the experience! After you finish up with that, you can then go onto a reflexology walk or relax in a hammock. If you're looking for a cheap spa in Mexico, this is the place! Located in San Juan Cosala, Jalisco on the shores of Lake Chapala, just a short drive from Guadalajara! Every time we leave this place, it's like we are floating on a cloud! Absolutely pure bliss! My third & final installment of my "California Zephyr" videos takes us the final 830 miles from Salt Lake City to Emeryville, CA. The "California Zephyr" at around 11 pm, and leave a half hour later. However, we were running about 6 hours late, arriving at around 5 am. Despite the incovenience, it, nevertheless, afforded a lovely view of the Wasatch Mountains at sunrise. The westbound "California Zephyr," leaving Salt Lake City, travels over Union Pacific rails the rest of the way to Emeryville. Skirting the south end of the Great Salt Lake, we pass through the Bonneville Salt Flats, before crossing into Nevada. In Nevada, we cut across the desert, before climbing over the Toano Mountains via Arnold's Loop and Silver Zone Pass, and passing through the Goshute Valley and skirting the Ruby Mountains. At Wells, NV, we meet with the ex Central Pacific (now Union Pacific) tracks from Odgen, UT, and not too far after that, at Deeth, we pick up the Humboldt River, and run parallel to it, past our station stops in Elko, and Winnemauca, to Lovelock, NV. At Lovelock, we cut across the Lohantan Velly, also known as the Forty Mile Desert, where the "California Zephyr" was involved in an accident in 2011 which killed 6 people (semi-collided with the train) to Reno. We wound up stopping in Sparks, NV, after crossing the Virginia Mountains, to drop off some Union Pacific crew At Reno, we begin the climb over the Sierra Nevadas, parallel to the Truckee River, ascending to Donner Lake, and passing over Donner Pass. Shortly after cresting Donner Pass, we got stuck behind a slow freight train, which eventually broke down, leaving us to sit a few miles out of Colfax for about 45 minutes, while 2 other eastbound freight trains passed, so we could use the eastbound track to pass the freight train, although, I don't recall switching over. After Colfax, and reaching the foot of the Sierra Nevadas, our engineer did everything in his power to make up time, and after making stops in Roseville, Sacramento, Davis, Martinez & Richmond, we finally arrived in Emeryville at 11:30 pm, 7 hours & 20 minutes behind the scheduled arrival time of 4:10 pm.

Learn about Peabody Award Winner Scott Carrier's travels to Afghanistan in his latest book, "Prisoner of Zion." Following the attacks on September 11th, 2001, Scott Carrier traveled to Afghanistan to see if he could learn for himself about the people that would soon be on the opposite end of the coming war. For three weeks, Carrier spoke with and lived among the people of Afghanistan and discovered that war was not going to be the best course of action. Like the Mormon pioneers of Utah, military action did not work against their religious principles. Carrier explains his thoughts on individual principles and the impact of military force.
