The World Is Slowly Running Out Of Sand

I never thought of sand as a non-renewable resource, but there's only a limited supply: and to make things worse, it keeps getting washed into the sea. Blow-out craters on the Arctic seafloor

02:01
This video was first shown during the press conference at EGU 2016 (European Geosciences Union) in Vienna. Some journalists even hastily announced, that we have discovered a new Bermuda Triangle (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2016/03/160315-norway-craters-methane-hydrates-bermuda-triangle-science/). The myth has further been dispelled (https://cage.uit.no/news/craters-in-barents-sea-not-connected-to-bermuda-triangle/). In fact, more than 30 gigantic craters (up to 1000 m wide and 30 m deep) are believed to result from a rapid outburst of gas hydrates - ice-like compounds of gas (mainly methane) and water, which are stable at high pressure and low temperature. The craters did not appear during the last years or decades, but likely soon after the last ice age (19 000 years ago). When 2-3 km thick ice sheet, covering the whole Barents Sea retreated, it dramatically affected temperature and pressure conditions across the shelf, and therefore disturbed stability of gas hydrates. In June 2017 CAGE published a paper about this phenomenon in journal “Science”. Check out more here http://science.sciencemag.org/content/356/6341/948 https://cage.uit.no/news/massive-craters-formed-methane-blow-outs-arctic-sea-floor/ Interesting facts • In many of the craters and between them we still document active gas seepage – streams of gas bubbles from the seafloor • Norwegian anglers beware of the crater area. No mystery, they are simply afraid that their fishing gear may hook on one of the large blocks of Triassic rock, abundant in this area • Rumors say, that crater area – is a UFO playground, or abandoned Russian nuclear site. Or - both. • It is almost impossible to get sediment samples from the seafloor in the crater area, because hard ancient bedrocks expose right on the surface Credits For this video my colleague Malin Waage and I used IBCAO v.3 bathymetry and 3-D seismic data, acquired by CAGE-Center for Arctic Gas Hydrate Environment and Climate Video is performed in Petrel and Fledermaus software in CAGE-Center for Arctic Gas Hydrate Environment and Climate, Norway.

Depending on skin color, it’ll take only minutes of exposure to turn one person beetroot-pink, while another requires hours to experience the slightest change. What’s to account for that difference, and how did our skin come to take on so many different hues to begin with? Angela Koine Flynn describes the science of skin color. The Third Industrial Revolution: A Radical New Sharing Economy

01:44:59
The global economy is in crisis. The exponential exhaustion of natural resources, declining productivity, slow growth, rising unemployment, and steep inequality, forces us to rethink our economic models. Where do we go from here? In this feature-length documentary, social and economic theorist Jeremy Rifkin lays out a road map to usher in a new economic system. A Third Industrial Revolution is unfolding with the convergence of three pivotal technologies: an ultra-fast 5G communication internet, a renewable energy internet, and a driverless mobility internet, all connected to the Internet of Things embedded across society and the environment. This 21st century smart digital infrastructure is giving rise to a radical new sharing economy that is transforming the way we manage, power and move economic life. But with climate change now ravaging the planet, it needs to happen fast. Change of this magnitude requires political will and a profound ideological shift. Click here to download in MP3 now: http://art.acerting.com/album/sleep-and-relaxation-nature-sounds-crickets-summer-night Crickets sound is the most typical and soothing sound of the forest sounds in summer. In this video you will listen in High-Fidelity audio the crickets chirping at night in summer to help you to sleep. BTW, I give you useful information about crickets to break a mith: they chirp with their wings, not their legs! :-o The sound emitted by crickets is commonly referred to as chirping; the scientific name is stridulation. Usually only the male crickets chirp, however some females crickets do as well. The sound is emitted by the stridulatory organ, a large vein running along the bottom of each wing, covered with "teeth" (serration) much like a comb. The chirping sound is created by running the top of one wing along the teeth at the bottom of the other wing. As the male cricket does this, he also holds the wings up and open, so that the wing membranes can act as acoustical sails. It is a popular myth that the cricket chirps by rubbing its legs together. ( Wikipedia ) I hope you'll enjoy it. Use headphones for a better experience. Sleep Well :) Relaxing Music channel. Videos every week with nature sounds for your yoga meditation. You will listen piano music, classical music, nature sounds, and all the universal sounds to relax, meditate and clean the mind. Thumbs up if you like the cricket sound ! As China concerns grow, India looks To build military presence in Seychelles

06:45
The Seychelles is not typically associated with geopolitics. But beyond the white sandy beaches and tropical jungles, the tiny archipelago nation is emerging as a key player in India's battle to counter growing Chinese influence in the Indian Ocean. Late last month, India and the Seychelles signed a revised agreement granting India permission to construct a military base on the Seychelles' Assumption Island, roughly 1,650 kilometers (1,025 miles) east of mainland East Africa. The deal, which follows several years of diplomatic negotiations, will provide India with a crucial military staging point in what is fast becoming a critically strategic region. In 2016, approximately 40 million barrels of oil per day -- equivalent to just under half of the world's total oil supply -- traveled through Indian Ocean entry and exit points, including the Straits of Hormuz, Malacca and Bab el-Mandeb. India, which has more than 7,500 kilometers (4,700 miles) of coastline and sits at the very center of the Indian Ocean, is dependent on free and open access to those same shipping lanes for trade. According to the Indian Ministry of Shipping, around 95% of the country's trade by volume, and 70% by value, comes via the Indian Ocean. Chinese consolidation :: India's attempts to better secure its access to the region mirrors a similar strategy deployed by its neighbor and long-standing rival China. Under Chinese President Xi Jinping, China's naval reach has grown considerably, expanding far beyond its immediate coastline into areas not previously considered within its sphere of influence. In July last year China established its first overseas military base in Djibouti, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, among the world's busiest shipping lanes and one of three crucial Indian Ocean arteries. The strait, which is only 29 kilometers (18 miles) wide at its narrowest point, connects the Mediterranean Sea via the Suez Canal, and the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean beyond. The opening of the Djibouti base was followed several months later by the country's controversial acquisition of the Hambantota port in Sri Lanka, just 22.2 kilometers (13.8 miles) by some estimates from the primary Indian Ocean sea lane that links the Malacca Straits to the Suez Canal. Speaking to CNN, Malcolm Davis, a senior analyst at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in Sydney, described the Hambantota deal -- which saw Sri Lanka grant China a 99-year lease on the port to service some of the billions in debt it owes to Beijing -- as part of a "determined strategy by China to extend its influence across the Indian Ocean at the expense of India." "That port then gives them not only a strategic access point into India's sphere of influence through which China can deploy its naval forces, but it also gives China an advantageous position to export its goods into India's economic sphere, so it's achieved a number of strategic aims in that regard," said Davis. "India and Seychelles have drawn up a cooperation agenda that covers within its purview joint efforts in anti-piracy operations, and enhanced EEZ surveillance and monitoring to prevent intrusions by potential economic offenders indulging in illegal fishing, poaching, drug and human trafficking," read the statement. The move has stirred resistance in the Seychelles, however, where earlier this month, a group of 50 residents held a demonstration to protest the accord, citing a lack of transparency and environmental concerns. The organizer of the protest, Ralph Volcere, told the official Seychelles News Agency that the island republic should not become involved in the "conflicts of superpowers." "We need to remain nonaligned, friendly to all -- enemy to none," Volcere was quoted as saying. Speaking to CNN, Arun Prakash, a retired four-star admiral and former Indian naval chief, refuted claims that the Seychelles agreement draws the island nation into a wider geopolitical rift. "(What India is building in the Seychelles) is a facility, not a military base. It has not been our policy to set up military bases on foreign Disclaimer- This channel is for defence related news worldwide . 2015 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: Water, Water

01:46:07
Join host and moderator Neil deGrasse Tyson and his panel of experts for a lively discussion about the past, present, and future of water on Earth. Earth is the only place in our solar system with liquid water on its surface. Even though water makes up only 0.03 percent of the Earth’s total mass, it covers 70 percent of the planet’s surface. Where did this water come from? Why is it mostly in liquid form? How much of it is drinkable and how vulnerable is this valuable resource? Will we ever run out? Will wars of the future be fought over access to it? Will future generations harness water from space? Is water essential to all life in the universe—or just to life on Earth? 2015 Asimov Panelists include: -Heidi Hammel, Planetary Astronomer,Executive Vice President of the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy -Tess Russo,Hydrologist,Assistant Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Pennsylvania State University  -Ellen Stofan, Planetary Geologist, Chief Scientist of NASA -Kathryn Sullivan, Geologist, Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Administrator -Charles Wald, General, U.S. Air Force, Retired; Director and Senior Advisor to the aerospace and defense industry for Deloitte LP The late Dr. Isaac Asimov, one of the most prolific and influential authors of our time, was a dear friend and supporter of the American Museum of Natural History.  In his memory, the Hayden Planetarium is honored to host the annual Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate — generously endowed by relatives, friends, and admirers of Isaac Asimov and his work — bringing the finest minds in the world to the Museum each year to debate pressing questions on the frontier of scientific discovery.  Proceeds from ticket sales of the Isaac Asimov Memorial Debates benefit the scientific and educational programs of the Hayden Planetarium. 2017 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: De-Extinction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LnAtMeSVeY&index=1&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ 2016 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: Is the Universe a Simulation? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgSZA3NPpBs&index=2&t=25s&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ 2015 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: Water, Water https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FSF79uS3t04&index=3&t=25s&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ 2014 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: Selling Space https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbmFeEIKBFI&index=4&t=25s&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ 2013 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: The Existence of Nothing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OLz6uUuMp8&index=5&t=25s&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ 2012 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: Faster Than the Speed of Light https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qlLW60wOjo&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ&index=6 2011 Isaac Asimov Memorial Debate: The Theory of Everything https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb8_3BUHcuw&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ&index=7 Rose Center Anniversary Isaac Asimov Debate: Is Earth Unique? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ji_GdAk9vU&index=8&list=PLrfcruGtplwGKzxDI_Ne06NlpOKt-yonZ&t=25s *** Subscribe to our channel: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=AMNHorg Check out our full video catalog: http://www.youtube.com/user/AMNHorg Facebook: http://fb.com/naturalhistory Twitter: http://twitter.com/amnh Tumblr: http://amnhnyc.tumblr.com/ Instagram: http://instagram.com/amnh

Why the ocean is getting louder

09:29
What the world sounds like underwater. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO We often think of the ocean as a quiet, peaceful place, filled with animals that don't make much noise. So when I went diving in the ocean for the first time, I was surprised at how rich the soundscape around me was: you could hear fish nibbling on coral and squid swimming past you. But more than anything, you could almost always hear the hum of a boat engine. It's part of a big problem in the ocean right now. Ship traffic noise has doubled every decade since the 1960s — and it's wreaking havoc on marine life. This video was made in collaboration with Twenty Thousand Hertz, a podcast that dives deep into all kinds of stories about sound. Everything from "who's the person behind the voice on your phone," to "what do other planets sound like to our ears?" Transpyrenea 2018 Getting Ready - Save the Himalayan Brown Bears

02:07
DONATE HERE: https://give.undp.org/fundraiser/1456652 Help me raise money to save the HIMALAYAN BROWN BEARS from extinction in Pakistan and conserve unique habitats. Our planet is not only the cradle of our existence, but it is a beautiful place with the most diverse, stunning natural landscapes and alive with the most fascinating living species. Yet, often we take it for granted and, unfortunately, humankind’s quest towards progress has come at a high cost to our environment. Today we are seeing unprecedented land degradation, and the loss of arable land at 30 to 35 times the historical rate. Drought and desertification is also on the rise each year, amounting to the loss of 12 million hectares, affecting poor communities globally. Of the 8,300 animal breeds known, 8% are extinct and 22% are at risk of extinction. Pakistan is no stranger to this threat. From the Himalaya – Karakorum - HinduKush mountain ranges to the Indus river basin and Tharparkar desert, ecosystems and biodiversity are disappearing, and with them traditional livelihoods and communities. This is compounded by the fact that Pakistan is the 7th most affected country by climate change. It hurts. So I want to do something radical to raise awareness so that everyone feels an obligation to take charge and change the way we live to reverse the current trend and protect Life on Land (SDG 15). SDG 15 aims to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. To do so, I am embarking on a 900 km ENDURANCE TREK across the Pyrenees mountain range between France and Spain, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean, during two weeks in August 2018. With 60,000 meters of positive elevation, TRANSPYRENEA is a very arduous journey where participants are required to trek in almost full autonomy. This challenge is described as: This is not an Ultra Trail The secret is not speed but regularity Safety and respect for the mountain There are no time-barrier penalties There is no ranking: either you finish or you don’t It is a challenge against yourself You are warned: it is a very hard crossing, the terrain is very brittle… You will have at least: 3 thunderstorms 5 days of rain 5 days of heat waves ... and 15 difficult nights… Nestled high in the Himalayas at an altitude of 4,114 meters, Deosai in Gilgit-Baltistan is the second highest plateau in the world. Often referred to as the ‘land of the giants’, Deosai plains are home to a variety of flora and fauna. Centuries old, the Himalayan subspecies of the Brown bears are one of the oldest and most significant inhabitants of these plateau. The Himalayan Brown Bear population — once known to be over 10,000 in number — has now plummeted to an estimated 54 bears residing in the plains. Spread over 3000 square kilometres between Kharmang, Astore and Skardu, the Deosai National Park in Gilgit-Baltistan was established in 1993 to conserve the remaining population of the Himalayan Brown Bears by providing them a sanctuary. Deosai National Park remains the only habitat for these wild mammals which has witnessed a steady increase in numbers of the otherwise fast receding population of the Himalayan Brown Bears. However, if the remaining population of the Himalayan Brown Bears is to be preserved, stronger and more rigorous measures need to be put in place. HELP ME RAISE US$10,000 TO HELP COMMUNITIES IN PAKISTAN PROTECT UNIQUE HABITATS THROUGH THE WORK OF THE UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME. Funds will be used to raise awareness about the endangered Himalayan brown bear in the unique Deosai Plateau, well-known for its rich flora and fauna of the Karakoram alpine steppe eco-region. Thank you!

James Estes (UC Santa Cruz) 2: Apex Predators: Sea Otters and Kelp Forests

26:51
https://www.ibiology.org/ecology/apex-predators/#part-2 Overview: The Ecological Function of Apex Predators (Part 1): Studying food webs allows ecologists to understand the role of apex predators in their environments. Apex Predators: Sea Otters and Kelp Forests (Part 2): By eating sea urchins, sea otters increase the growth of kelp. Kelp, in turn, provides habitat for many species and reduces atmospheric CO2 via photosynthesis. Apex Predators Around the World (Part 3): Estes discusses apex predators in three ecosystems: grey wolves in boreal forests, African carnivores in the savanna, and great sharks in coastal estuaries. Detailed description: A food web is a network of linked consumer-prey interactions. The apex predators in food webs are typically large animals that feed on other species but have no predators themselves. In his first lecture, Dr. James Estes goes over concepts that can be used to understand the effects of apex predators on their environment. To investigate these interactions, scientists look for “perturbations” that result in a change in the number of apex predators. Perturbations could be due to natural events such as disease, or human activities such as hunting. By comparing ecosystems with or without apex predators, ecologists can determine the direct and indirect impact of these animals on their environments. In the second lecture, Estes explains the ecological role of sea otters in coastal ecosystems. By studying a simplified food web that includes sea otters (as apex predators), sea urchins, and kelp, he and his colleagues found that as otter populations increase, urchin numbers decrease and, consequently, kelp becomes more abundant. Kelp is a foundation species providing habitat and food for many other organisms. In addition, kelp undergoes photosynthesis, which removes atmospheric carbon dioxide. Thus, sea otters, through their food web or trophic interactions, can have huge economical and environmental consequences! For his third lecture, Estes discusses studies of apex predators in three different ecosystems around the world: grey wolves in boreal forests, large African carnivores in tropical savannas, and great sharks in coastal estuaries. In all three systems, perturbations of the apex predator population resulted in cascades of trophic interactions with far-reaching and, sometimes unexpected, indirect effects on other species and ecological processes. For example, changes in the number of wolves in Yellowstone National Park impacted both the number of young trees in the park and elsewhere, may be linked to the prevalence of Lyme disease. Speaker Biography: Dr. James Estes is a Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California Santa Cruz. He completed his undergraduate degree in zoology at the University of Minnesota, a M.S. in biology at Washington State University, and a PhD in biology and statistics at the University of Arizona. Estes is known for his pioneering studies on the role of sea otters in coastal ecosystems. In recognition of his work, Estes has received the U.S. Geological Survey’s Schumaker Award for Excellence in Science Communication, the Western Society of Naturalists’ Lifetime Achievement Award, and the American Society of Mammalogists’ C. Hart Merriam Award for excellence in research. He is a Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation. Estes was named a fellow of the California Academy of Sciences in 1999 and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2014. Sea urchin (biological features and utilization)

00:50
Source: www.fishconsult.org This short video was filmed at “Tuna Harbor Dockside Market”, San Diego, USA during the Saturday fish market held on 27 December 2014. Introduction: The name "urchin" is an old word for hedgehog, which sea urchins resemble. Sea urchins are small and spiny animals that are members of the phylum Echinodermata, which also includes sea stars, sea cucumbers, brittle stars, and crinoids. There are nearly 200 different species of identified sea urchin with various shapes, sizes and living in different environments. The red sea urchin is the longest living creature on earth, with some living more than 200 years. Sea urchins have a certain regenerative ability. If a spine is damaged or lost, a sea urchin can re-build it. However, animals would not be able to heal extensive damage such as the test damage. Feeding habits: Sea urchins are omnivorous animals and therefore feed mainly on algae but can also feed on sea cucumbers along with a wide range of invertebrates, such as mussels, polychaetes, sponges, brittle stars, and crinoids. Sea urchins are preyed upon by many predators including sea otter, lobsters, crabs, trigger fish, starfish, wolf eels, California sheephead, birds, and humans. Almost all these predators carry particular adaptations (e.g. teeth, pincers, claws) and enough strength that enable them to overcome the excellent protective features of sea urchins as represented by their strong and sharp spines, and poisonous apparatus. Because sea urchin is nocturnal, they will usually hide in holes or crevasses during the day and only feed at night. Reproduction and life history: A female sea urchin releases millions of 100-150 micron tiny, jelly-coated eggs into the water that are then fertilized by the sperm of the male sea urchin resulting in the formation of sea urchin larvae which is known as a “pluteus”. The larvae require several months to complete its development before sinking to the ocean floor and metamorphose into adult. The sex of sea urchin cannot be distinguished until adults themselves release their gametes whether eggs or sperms and this occurs at the age of 2-5 years. Utilization: As food: Certain species of the sea urchin are eaten in some countries in the Mediterranean, New Zealand, and Japan and by native populations in some continents and on some islands. Traditionally sea urchins are eaten raw, with lemon or used in some sauces and flavor. Wherever sea urchins are eaten, their gonads are served as a delicacy. In Japan, sea urchin and its roe are served raw as sashimi or in sushi. In that regard, Japan is the main importer of sea urchin from the United States, South Korea, and other producers whereas Japanese demand for sea urchin corals has raised concerns about overfishing. For aquaria: Some species of sea urchins, such as the slate pencil urchin and others are sold in aquarium stores and recommended for sea water aquariums. In addition to their unique shapes and colors, selected sea urchin species eat and control variety of algae, such as green, red and coralline algae. However, they should be under check as without enough algae to eat they will graze on corals and invertebrates.

Title: The colour of the sea between Shanghai and Wellington. Sub-title: Loft en wetter tusken Shanghai en Wellington Analysing digital (RGB) images of the colours of natural waters (oceans, coastal seas, lakes and rivers) allows researchers to observe an important indicator for environmental changes due to e.g. climate change, pollution or increased erosion. The Red-Green-Blue (RGB) colour information will be transformed into the Forel-Ule index of 21 colours reaching from indigo blue (the ocean), via greenish blue (the North Sea) to cola brown (Loosdrechtse Plassen; a fresh water lake in NL).The video shows the colour changes of seawater between Shanghai and Wellington, NZ. This video was made by Master Jaap de Jong, Damen Shipyards Group for the EU-Citclops project.

The Lost Province Episode 4 - Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations - CMANO Gameplay

22:07
The Command Modern Air/Naval Operations WOTY playthrough of 'The Lost Province (2017)' Continues! In this fictional hypothetical scenario, China has decided that the time is right for the retaking of it's 'lost province', the Republic of China (Taiwan). With American CVBGs and ballistic missile defenses at the ready, not to mention the sizable Taiwanese Air Force and Navy, DrZaius has his work cut out for him in this very complex and busy scenario. Not being used to playing REDFOR surely won't help either! In this episode the attack begins with a daring raid against the American CVBG and the anti-ballistic missile defenses of Taiwan. DrZaius fights through a nasty cough and a marathon 2 hour recording session after midnight to bring you this episode. Stand toe-to-toe against Iran in the Persian Gulf. Wrestle the Falklands under your control. Go “Down Town” around Hanoi and spar with the deadly NV air defences. Hunt down rogue nukes in Pakistan before they fall into terrorist hands. Face off with your carrier group against India or China – from either side. Square off against the Soviet Union in the cold war confrontation, and against resurgent Russia in the new multipolar world order. Units move, detect, fight and win or die based on what their systems can and cannot do. Electronic warfare and technological levels can tilt the balance of battle. The weather can be your best ally and your worst enemy. The terrain, both overland and undersea, can hide you from the enemy but also can block your weapons from firing. Your aircraft can choose different mission profiles and loadouts, each with its advantages and limitations, and can dash high (speed, range) or scream low (protection). Thermal layers, convergence zones, surface ducting, the deep sound channel and factors such as water temperature and terrain slope may decide the sub vs ship duel. Thick clouds or rain can render your fancy laser-guided bombs useless. Stealth may help you avoid detection, or a jamming barrage may tip the scales when you are out of options. Command’s battle environment is as unforgiving as the real thing – and as rewarding for those who understand and use it. AIR/NAVAL WARFARE AROUND THE WORLD Korea. Colonial wars. Vietnam. Middle East. 3. Plague (I): Pestilence as Disease

48:51
Epidemics in Western Society Since 1600 (HIST 234) The bubonic plague is the measure by which succeeding epidemics have long been measured. Its extreme virulence, horrible symptoms, and indiscriminate victim profile all contributed to making plague the archetypical worst-case scenario. For these same reasons, the plague is also an ideal test case for the thesis that epidemic diseases play a major role in shaping human history. Over the course of its three pandemics, the plague had major economic, religious, cultural and political implications for affected societies. In its wake, religious beliefs and medical practices were questioned, public authorities tested, and the social fabric strained. 00:00 - Chapter 1. Bubonic Plague 14:03 - Chapter 2. Lead nuclear-powered sharks of steel against the masters of antisubmarine ops. Exchange volleys of fire in close-quarters gun duels, or obliterate the enemy with sophisticated, heavy-hitting hypersonic missiles from hundreds or thousands of miles away. Survive massive, vicious air battles. Escort vital convoys to their destination, or make a last stand against all odds. When things escalate out of control, step up to unconventional or even nuclear weapons. Play the most dangerous game of hide and seek – at sea, on land and in the air - even in near-space. Command is the next generation of air/naval wargaming. YOU ARE IN CONTROL Surface fleets, submarine squadrons, air wings, land-based batteries and even satellite constellations are yours to direct as you see fit – from the lowliest pirate skiff to the mightiest aircraft carrier, from propeller biplanes to supersonic stealth fighters, and from WW2-era iron bombs, torpedoes & mines and the trusty "Mk1 Eyeball" to ultra-modern radars with imaging capability, multi-spectral recon satellites, "brilliant" self-guided stand-off weapons, 200-knot supercavitating torpedoes and hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missiles. Every sensor and weapon system is modeled in meticulous detail. You are given the hardware; but you have to use it well. THE WORLD AT YOUR FINGERTIPS Throw your distorted flat maps away – Command uses a realistic 3D earth globe for each of its scenarios. Rotate and zoom in and out of the action, from satellite view down to the trenches and wavetops. Play scenarios or build your own on any place on earth – from classics like the Middle East, South Atlantic, North Cape and Europe to new and rising hotspots like the Arctic, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean. Use a powerful yet intuitive point-and-click mouse interface for controlling your forces and go advanced with a wide collection of hotkeys for quickly jumping around the action and issuing complex orders in the heat of the battle. RELENTLESS REALISM Sensors and weapons work just like in real life, with all their strengths and weaknesses.

Rising Coastlines of America & Around World

Martin Vargic created the map to depict the planet with sea levels around 260ft (79m) higher than they are today. In the U.S., large parts of the east coast would be submerged including New York, Houston, Miami, New Orleans and Washington. According to recent studies, there is enough ice in Earth's polar caps to cause a 250-300ft (80-100m) rise in sea level - - - Even today, the sea levels are over 2 m lower as 2000 years ago, due to the little ice age that lasted from 1300 to 1850. - - During the Eocene epoch - a period of increased global temps that lasted from 56 to 34 million years ago. - - In Mr Vargic's depiction, the U.S. would shrink dramatically. A separate study found that if climate change continues, the first U.S. cities to feel extreme weather changes would be Honolulu and Phoenix, followed by San Diego and Orlando, in 2046. Martin Vargic imagines what Earth would look like if the ice sheets surrounding the North and South poles - which contains five million cubic miles of frozen water - melted. Pictured here is the Antarctic without its polar ice. - - - National Geographic recently created a series of maps similar to Mr Vargic¿s, demonstrating the catastrophic effect Earth¿s ice could cause if it melted and flowed into the oceans and seas. If these ice sheets melted, the rest of the world would be affected. In Europe, pictured, cities including London and Venice would be lost underwater, as would the whole of the Netherlands and most of Denmark. It would also cause the Mediterranean to expand and swell the Black and Caspian Seas http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2609338/Would-YOU-underwater-polar-caps-melted-Map-reveals-planet-look-like-sea-levels-rose-260ft.html#ixzz4evBHmIa9 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2609338/Would-YOU-underwater-polar-caps-melted-Map-reveals-planet-look-like-sea-levels-rose-260ft.html Also See - - halcyon maps - facebook http://www.humanunderground.com/archive/pdf/NWSS.pdf

William L. Fash, Jr., PhD, Charles P. Bowditch Professor of Central American and Mexican Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University; Douglas Kennett, PhD, professor of environmental anthropology, Pennsylvania State University; Timothy Beach, PhD, professor and C.B. Smith Centennial Chair, Department of Geography and the Environment, University of Texas at Austin; Vernon L. Scarborough, PhD, Distinguished University Research Professor, Charles P. Taft Professor, Department of Anthropology, University of Cincinnati The Maya’s ingenious manipulation of natural resources is awe-inspiring; jungle-covered ruins reveal sophisticated agricultural techniques, water pipe systems, and reservoirs. Nonetheless, when faced with a changing climate, vital resources became scant and Mayan civilization was stressed beyond survival. Hear from scholars who are transforming our understanding of the Maya’s collapse and what we can learn from their wondrous achievements and mysterious demise.

A Roadmap for Ukraine

01:32:19
On Tuesday, July 22nd, the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center hosted a public forum on the Atlantic Council's latest report, A Roadmap for Ukraine. The panelists included the Hon. John Herbst, Director of the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council; Mr. David Koranyi, Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center Deputy Director; and Ms. Irena Chalupa, an Editor at the Atlantic Council. The event was introduced by former Under Secretary of State for Global and International Affairs and Senior Fellow at Harvard University's JFK Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Paula Dobriansky, and moderated by Atlantic Council Vice President Damon Wilson. The participants discussed the fragile situation in Ukraine and the Kremlin's relentless push against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. The conversation highlighted various tactics to restore order to the East. The speakers discussed their recommendations to the Ukrainian government, which included energy reforms, media reforms, and the dismantling of corruption. Damon Wilson and Ambassador Herbst also reported on their recent trip to Kyiv, underscoring Ukrainians' determination to regain the country on their own, regardless of Western assistance. It was made clear that stability in Ukraine is necessary to ensure the security of both the country and continent.

Plant Based Breakfast - Chipotle Mushroom Scrambled Eggs on Hash Recipe - #007

12:04
These Mexican inspired scrambled eggs and hash are an easy option for a Sunday breakfast for two or to add to a great brunch spread with friends. Style inspired by Peaceful Cuisine. Full recipe below! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recipe: serves 2-3 60g mushroom (your choice) 1ea chipotle in adobo 0.5ea red onion 5ea eggs, large 2ea starchy potatoes pomace oil, for cooking sea salt and fresh ground black pepper 0:00 Wash mushrooms and dice. Set aside. 1:15 Mince chipotle. Set aside. 1:41 Peel and dice onions. Set aside. 2:37 Break eggs into bowl, add salt and pepper. Beat until even in colour 3:54 Grate the potatoes into a bowl. Squeeze out excess water and reserve liquid. Place dried potato in a separate container. 5:22 Drain off the water to reveal the potato starch. Add this starch to the grated potatoes to help bind the hash browns. Season and mix 6:36 Heat oil in a pan and add small batches of grated potato to desired size. Press flat. Cook until outer edges are brown and flip to cook evenly on both sides. 8:13 Remove from pan and drain on paper towels before plating. 8:24 In same (or new) pan on medium-high heat, add some oil then the onions, mushroom, and chipotle to cook. Stir often. 8:57 Once mushrooms are fully cooked and soft, remove from heat to let cool slightly before adding beaten eggs. Return to low-medium heat. Continuously stir until eggs are cooked to desired texture. (I like my scrambled eggs slightly wet) 10:39 Remove from heat and add to hash browns on plate. Add hot sauce if desired. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anthony is a trained chef living in Hong Kong but originally from the USA. Arma 3 Wasteland Action Day 10 Groups of People Dead

11:14
Download From Here:http://www.mediafire.com?33rxeeyf2cmfn22 ........................................................... ARMA 3 is an open-world, tactical shooter video game developed by Czech studio Bohemia Interactive for Microsoft Windows. It was released on September 12, 2013.[3] Arma 3's storyline takes place in the mid-2030s during the fictional Operation Magnitude, a military operation launched by NATO forces fighting in Europe against "Eastern armies" referred to as CSAT (Canton-Protocol Strategic Alliance Treaty) led by a resurgent Iran with a coalition of other Middle Eastern and Asian nations.[4] Set more than 25 years after the events of ARMA 2, in 2035, NATO forces deployed to islands of the Aegean Sea are trying to hold off a massive C.S.A.T's offensive from the east. During the singleplayer campaign, the player takes on the role of a US Army soldier, Corporal Ben Kerry. Initially, the player must survive on his own after friendly forces are defeated in a failed NATO operation. During the campaign, the player will face everything from lone wolf infiltration missions to the commanding of large scale armored operations. The player will be able to choose different objectives and weaponry (such as UAVs, artillery, and air support) according to their play style.[5][6][7] ARMA 3 takes place on the Aegean islands of Altis (formerly Lemnos[8]) and Stratis of Greece, in the Mediterranean Sea. The islands feature photo-realistic terrain and water environments. Altis is the largest official terrain in the Arma series with ground area covering approximately 270 km2. The smaller island, Stratis, expands over an area of 20 km2.[9] The islands also feature over 50 villages with buildings that are both penetrable and destructible.
