Horrible Fashion Trends That Should Never Make a Comeback
Top 10 worst clothing styles in the history of fashion that should never return. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg Other Videos You Might Like 10 Most Stupid Trends Ever https://youtu.be/MdWLU0Ymba8 Fashion Items That Changed The World https://youtu.be/fCPRVJeF62c Description: Just as the human race has dealt with the evolution of compelling scientific breakthroughs, new discoveries that changed history, and the continually growing field of medicine, it has been proven that the best way to learn is by trial and error. Fashion is no exception to this rule. If you want to get an idea of how much the human race has learned, changed, and reverted back to bad habits, take a look at the fashion evolution. You can learn a lot about a time period or a specific moment in history from looking at the clothes that someone wore while they were alive. Fashion is often inspired by well-known people, be it celebrities, politicians, or royalty. If you dressed like someone famous, it was a way to connect with someone that you would likely never meet, as well as elevate yourself to a level of high importance. You can tell a lot about a person based on what they wear including what their income is, how their body is shaped, what their emotional state is, and how confident they are in themselves. The fashion industry has generated millions (if not trillions) of dollars in the world’s economy through fashion designers, models, fashion shows, and more. The fashion industry covers a lot of bases from casual wear, work wear, to formal wear like tuxedos, gowns, and more. Designers have made millions from what we would consider a basic design. One trend that is taking off quite quickly is bringing back fashion hits of the past and adding a modern flair to them. This idea is both good and bad. Good as in we can recycle styles of the past, but it is also bad because there are some fashion trends that just need to die and never again see the light of day. There are some fashion trends that were so epically bad that they are being brought back just to make people cringe and/or laugh. Many designers know that the trend was a bad idea in the first place. But does this mean that we are all rewarding the bad behavior by giving them our money? Mainly yes, given that trends are created based on sales from different companies. This video will be discussing some of the most horrible fashion trends that should never be brought back. These trends are not just exclusive to one decade, and not one decade has made more poor fashion choices above another. But instead this video will cover an expansive list detailing some of the biggest faux pas in history. Join us on this journey as we take a look bad at some of history’s worst decision when it comes to the clothes we wore and the styles we condoned. If any designer tries to bring any of these styles back, we invite you to join us on a worldwide protest. Or better yet, leave the horrible fashion trend on the rack and don’t give the companies your money. Meaning, don’t enable the bad decision to breathe life into a terrible fashion trend! Vocabulary: Talking about CLOTHES in English
Clothes are part of our everyday life. In this easy vocabulary lesson, you will learn how to talk about clothing, how to pay compliments about someone’s outfit, and what dress codes such as "smart casual", "black tie", and "Sunday best" mean. Boring vocabulary is so last season, so put your glad rags on, and watch this lesson to learn some exciting new words. You will be looking smart in no time. http://www.engvid.com/english-vocabulary-clothes/ TRANSCRIPT Hello, and welcome back to EngVid. You've found the right place to learn English. Today, we're going to be learning to speak about clothes, about choosing the right clothes, giving compliments, the names of different styles of clothing. So first things first, instructions. If you're holding a party, you might tell them to arrive in a particular type of clothing. You might say, "Dress up." Okay? You expect them to dress up. You'll maybe say to the women to wear skirts and maybe even say to the guys, "Wear a tie." Okay? If it's a smart, smart occasion. "Vamp it up!" is a bit of a party term. If you're a girl and you're inviting other girls to come and party with you, "Vamp it up." You expect mascara and make up, etc. Obviously not for the guys. Don't worry. "Put your glad rags on!" This is another phrase about partying. Kind of put your, sort of, retro flares on and your, kind of, checked shirts. You're going out for a night on the town. Now, I know we've got some viewers who live in Russia. You might want to "wrap up warm". I'm going to Norway this weekend, and I'll certainly be wrapping up warm. Or you could just say, "Wear a shirt and tie" or, "Put on a colourful jacket." Maybe you're having a fancy dress, okay? "Fancy dress" is where we wear -- maybe you dress up as Mr. Men or as superheroes. "Fancy dress" is a particular type of character party. Good. Other types of clothing, "Sunday best". You go to church, and you have a nice Sunday lunch. You'd ask them to put on their "Sunday best", their best clothes for a Sunday. If it's a, kind of, smart, sort of, business networking -- perhaps at someone's house -- maybe "smart casual", respectable clothing. "Evening wear" is a little bit more smart, okay? "Evening wear", kind of, suits, shirts, ties, maybe "black tie". That would suggest a bow tie. Or in America, you call that "tuxedos", okay? Or "professional work attire". That's, kind of, the kind of clothes that you would go to the office in. Now, I'm going to be going to a party this evening, so I'll just go and spruce up. See you in a little bit. So I'm ready for my party. I've put my after-shave on. And, wow. Look at her. She's looking pretty good. I need to think of some compliments, some nice things to say about the clothes she's wearing. A nice simple one, I could say, "Great outfit." Or, "You're looking great." Now, if I'm talking just about the clothes, I could say, "That -- those trousers go really well with the top you're wearing." Or, "It works. It really works with your hair, the hair colour and trousers." Or, "The top, it just so suits your particular eye type, your eye colour." So you can pair the colours of their hair and their eyes." Or you could just say, "That really suits you." Okay? "Suits" is the same word as a business suit. You can use it as a verb as well. "It really suits you." Now, some more compliments. You can use "so" as a, sort of, substitute for "very". So I could say, "You're looking so smart." Or, "You're looking so elegant, so graceful, so stylish." Or, "You're looking dapper." "Dapper" is more often used about men than it is about girls. But it's a great adjective for saying that you're looking good. Now, some nasty things to say about what someone's wearing, some criticisms. "I am sorry, but those colours just don't work on you" or, "Those colours, they don't really work very well with you. They don't suit you." Okay? Or if I just don't think their clothes balance with them, I could say, "You don't really pull that off." Like, if I were wearing a yellow checked suit with a pink spotted shirt, my wife would say to me, "Benjamin, you can't really pull that one off." Okay. Now, if you're very knowledgeable about fashion, you could say, "That's a bit last season." Okay? "Season." We've, you know, spring, summer, autumn, winter. And fashions, you have spring fashions, summer fashions. "A bit last season. The clothes you are wearing are a bit 2012." Now, particular things with the clothes. If the colour is a bit faded -- can you all see my trousers? The colour, it's a bit faded. Okay? It's a bit torn. Can you see here? My trousers, they're torn. I jumped over a fence to get into a festival, and now, they're torn. Okay? "Ripped." It's the same thing.

Learn English Vocabulary: kind of, sort of, type of, style of...
Whether you are talking about the different styles of music you like or the kinds of foods you can and cannot eat, you frequently talk about categories, sometimes without realizing it. In this lesson, I will teach you phrases that you can use to describe categories of things that are important to you. This will help you discuss differences or things you have in common with others. For example, you could talk about a "type" of movie, a "style" of clothing, a "sort" of person, etc. Native English speakers often use shorter forms of these words, and I will teach you how to use this slang, as well. Take the quiz on this lesson at https://www.engvid.com/english-vocabulary-kind-of-sort-of/ . #engvid #LearnEnglish #vocabulary TRANSCRIPT Hi. James from engVid. This is my style of magazine; it gives me a lot of information, and the type of information I get from it is sort of cool. Now, I've used three terms or phrases: "sort of", "kind of", "style of" that you may not be familiar with; or if you are familiar, you don't truly understand. My job today is to tell you the difference between the individual words: "kind", "sort", "style", and "type"; what it means when you put "of"; what the slang meaning "of"; and how you can use it. I have a complicated drawing on the board, but I'll help you understand it in a second. And by the time we're done, you'll be able to use these phrases like a native speaker. Okay, so let's go to the board. First thing, E: "What are these types of words?" The first thing E will tell you is, well, first of all, they're different types of words so we can't say they're adjectives, they're this, this, and this. Each word has its own meaning, and sometimes they have two. I'm going to go to the board now and start working on that with you. All right? So let's get on this side. So, let's look at the first one: "kind". "Kind" is a word you've probably heard before. "She is a kind woman.", "He has a kind face." And we mean nice and friendly. Now, you might not be aware that it also is a noun, as in category. If you look over here: What is "category"? It is people or things that have something in common; they share together. Okay? Like music. Music can be jazz, blues, classical, rock - they're in the category of music, not movies, because they're all types of, you know, instruments and people singing. So when you say: "What type of or kind of music do you like?" We're saying: "What category? Is it jazz? Is it rock?" because they all share music together, but there's something specific with each genre or grouping, so we say: "kind of", and that tells us what category. And the next one we're going to talk about is "style". Now, some of you like my style, right? When we say "style", we say way of doing something, that's his style. So, some people like Michael Jordan, when he used to throw a ball he'd have his tongue out - that was his style. Not many NBA athletes do that, but he would, so you knew when Michael went: "Ah", he was about to jump and throw it. Appearance, like my appearance. I love superheroes so I'm always wearing... Not always, but a lot of time wearing superhero clothing or costumes. And those of you who know me know I love Batman. So, when you talk about someone's style, you talk about their general appearance; what they wear regularly. Okay? Or their way of doing something, like I said, Michael Jordan. We also use it for elegance, which means sophisticated, not common, above average. Usually people say elegant people have money, but it's not the case. It just means they have a certain way about them that makes them special, and people like it and respect it; to be elegant. But "style" also means... It's also a verb, as in to design. So when you design or make something in a specific way, it's that style. So if it's in the classical style, it's made like the classics. If it's in the modern style, it's made like modern things, like all white furniture. Okay? Once we add "of", and you notice I added "of" to "kind of" to talk about category, once again, we get a noun. Right? So we go: "kind of", we become a noun... We can use it as a noun as well. Right? "Kind of" from grouping. Same thing, people or if things are together. So if you say: "What style of music do you like?" it's similar to saying: "What kind of music do you like?" Okay? The "of" brings these things together to give them something common or puts them in a given category, you might say. Why am I teaching you this? To go back again, because a lot of times we say this when we want to talk about what groupings go together and preferences. There's a little bit more to it, which I'll get back to afterwards, but as long as you understand that "kind" with "of" and "style" with "of" are similar that they talk about category. What's the next one I'm going to go to? Well, let's go to "type". Typing: "Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch", now, you do that on the computer. […]

Well, today I would like to share with you about my preference outfit style which is modern and youthful. With this style, I usually wear a comfortable T-shirt and a pair of jeans on a casual day. There are a number of reasons why I’m really into this clothing style. Are you Wearing your Future? | Manou Messmann | TEDxKEA
If you thought that clothes are superficial, you might change your mind after seeing this TED talk by Manou Messmann. You will not only see the clothes you wear in a new light - you will also understand the power of what your wear. Clothing is our way of communicating in a society dominated by visual information; it helps us understand ourselves and each other. Be aware of the power of clothes and let them help you create the future that you want. Manou Messmann has a Master's degree in communication and psychology - a combination she uses to produce the latest consumer knowledge. Manou established her company Manou.dk in 2014, from where she brings state of the art consumer know-how to the fashion industry. Manou wants to reduce worldwide clothing waste, which is one of the big environmental problems today. To do that, she helps the fashion industry create a tight fit between what is produced and what is consumed. That is done by understanding the consumers' needs, so that fashion brands can produce relevant clothing that isn´t thrown out the day after it is bought. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Kahlo’s unique personal style blended aspects of German-Mexican heritage with a carefully crafted sartorial persona. These images are immortalized in countless self-portraits, but her wardrobe was locked away until 2004. Hear how its recent unveiling has allowed for a more intimate exploration of how she constructed a distinctive look that continues to inspire us today. Chanel - The Vocabulary of Style
Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel was, without doubt, the most influential designer of the 20th century. This book honours her influence by celebrating the key elements that defined and still define her style through inspired pairings of classic and contemporary photographs. Juxtaposing fashion plates from Chanel's own time with the most recent creations by Karl Lagerfeld, the resonance between archive and contemporary photographs becomes sharp, vibrant and telling. The vocabulary of Chanel's style -- the little black dress, baroque inspirations, androgynous chic -- is revealed in eleven chapters that compare original forms in the 1920s with the full range of their later expressions through every fashion era. Chanel's legendary fashion house continues to captivate a huge audience with an insatiable appetite for one of fashion's undisputed style perennials.
