Create MySQL Database - MySQL Workbench Tutorial

17:15
We model a MySQL database using a diagram in MySQL workbench. We then forward engineer the diagram to create MySQL database on the server. MySQL workbench is a powerful tool for modeling and creating databases and we take advantage of it's relationship tool to create many to many relationship between our main movie table, and stars, directors and genres tables. I don't go into too much detail on how the relationships work in this video on purpose, I wanted to make a general overview of how MySQL workbench can be used to quickly created the model of a database with relationships between tables. ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` Hey guys, I'm now using Patreon to share improved and updated video lesson material. For a small fee you can access all the downloadable files from this lesson (source code, icons & graphics, cheat sheets) and everything else included in the video from the Patreon page. Additionally, you will get access to ALL Clever Techie videos in HD format with no ads. Thank you so much for supporting Clever Techie :) Download this video's files here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/create-mysql-20819048 This download (Patreon unlock) includes: (Scrape IMDB function php source code, workbench movies relational tables sql source code) + ( You also get access to ALL source code and any downloadable content of ALL Clever Techie videos, as well as access to ALL videos in HD 1080p quality format with all video ads removed! ) ````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` From the video: Let's go ahead and create the database model which will hold all the data now using MySQL Workbench (a free program that you can download here). When you first open the Workbench, create a new connection by clicking on the + icon. I'm going to name my connection localhost and and put "root" for the username. Then press press the storage vault button and enter your password. You can then click on "test the connection" and you should get the message: "successfully made the MySQL connection." At this point, click OK, and then double click on this newly created connection to connect to your MySQL database server. Now go to File---New Model and double click on Add Diagram. This is the part of the program where we're going to be designing our database model. You will see a toolbar on the left side along with all the tools available which we can use to model the database. Go ahead and double-click on the New Table icon which will place a new table in the diagram. When the table shows up on the diagram, double-click on it, the new box will show up at the bottom of the screen where we can rename our table as well as specify all the column names and their appropriate data types. Name this table that we have just created "movies", and then for the very first column, enter "id" which will be the unique identifier for this table. This id will also act as primary key which is going to auto increment so make sure the primary key and auto-increment check boxes are both checked as well as not null (NN). Now let's go ahead and enter the rest of the column names. `````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` ( Website ) https://clevertechie.com - PHP, JavaScript, Wordpress, CSS, and HTML tutorials in video and text format with cool looking graphics and diagrams. Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) Tutorial - Part 1

06:58
Learn how to create an Entity Relationship Diagram in this tutorial. We provide a basic overview of ERDs and then gives step-by-step training on how to make an ER diagram with correct cardinality. Entity Relationship Diagrams are comprised of 3 main categories: entities, attributes, and relationships. Entities are objects or concepts that are associated with important data—like a customer, order, or product. Attributes represent properties or traits of an entity, such as a customer’s phone number or home address. Relationships demonstrate the link between entities. Another main aspect of of ERD's is cardinality, which further defines the relationship between entities in a numerical way. Certain symbols signify the minimum and maximum relationship between different entities. Oracle 12c PL/SQL Security Features - Lesson 4 of 8 - Roles and PLSQL

06:21
Learn how Roles really work with Oracle PL/SQL and why a privilege granted via a role can't be used in PL/SQL. Demonstrations, examples. See all lessons and many more free Oracle Database tutorials at https://www.skillbuilders.com/free-oracle-database-tutorials John Watson: We have the business of roles - roles and PL/SQL. The point here is that roles are invisible to PL/SQL. When you compile your code, only direct privileges are available. When you run your code, only direct privileges are available. This is for definer's rights, I should say. When you run the code, only direct privileges are available to grant to the definer. In effect, the definer's rights code, all roles are disabled within the stored procedure. And certainly roles are disabled when compiling the code. Functionally, it's equivalent to having issued the command SET ROLE NONE. Why is this? Why is it you can't use your privileges? It's perfectly straightforward. It's a technology limitation. Quickly to see what's going on. If I go in and say - let me connect or create a clear schema. I'll create myself, grant dba to jw identified by jw. I've created a user and given him ridiculously high privileges. Connect.... What can you do? You can do pretty much anything. If he wants to delete from scott.emp, he can do it. Let's roll back, because along with his dba role, he has the ability to pretty much anything to use the data. Now we'll create a procedure. If I create a procedure, create delemp as begin, and in there I delete from scott.emp, end, compilation errors. What are they? Show error. At line 2 table of view doesn't exist. That's line 2 delete from scott.emp. I remember way back in version 7, this cause so much confusion before we realized what was going on. It's quite simple that when we are within the code, as the definer or the invoker, because this is definer's rights code, when we are within the definer's rights code block or indeed when we are compiling a definer's rights code block, the roles are disabled and that's why we cannot see it. But why is this and why do I say it's a technology limitation? It's because roles can be enabled and disabled. They can be enabled or disabled. That makes it logically impossible to consider a role when executing a stored procedure because I might have the role enabled while I compile it, but how do I know that it's going to be enabled when I run it? If I grant execute on the code to a third party, he doesn't have the role at all and that he must not even be logged on. So it becomes a logical impossibility because of the way roles are used because roles are enabled or disabled. You can dynamically switch them on and off. It's a logical impossibility to use role within definer's rights program module. Invoker's rights code, however, is very different. That infuses some interesting issues. Invoker's rights code can use any roles that happen to be enabled for the user at the time that he invokes it in exactly the same way that an anonymous PL/SQL can use any enabled roles. In the security point of view, the definer can in effect grab any roles within his code that the invoker happens to have. Dave: [Question], John, pardon. How do you enable or disable a role? John: Right now there's several techniques. I won't spend too much time demonstrating. The easiest technique will be alter - I can set role none. And that will have disabled all my roles. Now if you look at this, I've got nothing. If I try to run my code and query - let's see. Yes. If I try to delete from scott.emp I can't see it. So I'll set role dba and now of course I can. That's the easiest way. In fact, there are much more [05:07 inaudible] ways to switch roles on and off. We can do it with operating system authentication and I can do it with proxy authentication. We have a persistent session through application server as well as a user when we pass that session out to many of the users that can switch roles on and off. That's the persistent session switch identities. Perhaps, best of all, I can create what I call secure application roles well it protect the role with a package and that can contest any number of issues - environment variables, maybe the time, maybe your IP address, perhaps the program you're using and switch roles on and off accordingly. So there are many ways for controlling roles and you should do it. Blindly granting roles and letting them be enabled all the time is not good security. The end result for this, however, you can get some pretty unexpected results within your code. I've tried to run through in our first half hour some of the issues that we see with PL/SQL in release 11g and earlier. After a short break, we'll move on to the 12c features.

Creating a web database application in 5 minutes using AppGini

05:26
This screen cast will guide you through using AppGini ( https://bigprof.com/appgini ) to create a database web-application from scratch. In a few minutes, we'll create a simple product catalog, set it up and see it in action. 00:07 If you are looking for a way to make a user-friendly, fast and feature-rich web application in a very short time, that's when AppGini comes handy. This tutorial shows you how to create a web application in 5 minutes using AppGini. 00:21 First we'll start a new project. Let's give it a name: in our example we'll name it "product catalog". 00:31 Then we'll add two tables one for "categories" and another one for "items". 00:37 You can assign an icon for each table by clicking on the box at the left of the table name. 00:48 Next, we'll add fields to each table. Each table MUST contain a primary key field. If you name a field "ID", it will automatically become a primary key. You can add as many fields and tables as you need. 01:16 Now, let us try out some of AppGini's features. 01:18 If we set a field as a look-up, it would be displayed to users as a drop-down, listing data from another table. This makes your web application more organized. We'll set the "category" field as a look-up field simply by clicking on the "look-up field" tab, selecting "category" as the "parent table" then "category name" as the "parent caption field". 01:40 In addition, if you want to list items under each category, you'll need to configure the "categories" table by opening the "parent/children settings", select the "items" table, check "enabled", "show icon" and optionally rename the "tab title" to a more descriptive one. 01:57 All you need to do now is to generate your web application by clicking the magic stick icon. Choose your application path and AppGini will do the job for you. 02:14 These are the files generated by AppGini. 02:20 Let us visit our web application and see this in action. 02:37 This is the setup data page. Once we are done filling it, we start using our application. 02:52 As you can see, both tables appear on the first page. Let's go to the "Categories" table and enter some data. Here you can see the table fields. 02:59 To start adding a new record simply click "Add new". You will automatically be directed to the Data entry page, also known as Detail view form. 03:11 We'll enter Dresses and T-shirts as an example. Simply press "back" to see how the table looks like. 03:22 Once we are done, we jump to "items" table and start adding our data for this table as well. 03:43 Do you see how the "category" field is displayed? It's a drop down menu, because we set it up as a look-up field in AppGini. The drop down lists the categories that we entered a moment ago in the "categories" table. 03:59 AppGini offers special features for fields with immutable data like "size" and "target groups". 04:07 This is how the "items" table looks like after adding our data. 04:12 Now let us go back to AppGini to see how to make use of its features. 04:16 To create a drop-down list, click on the field name, then on "options list", and type all values you need, separating options with double semicolon. You can choose among three options for how to display your options list. In our case we will choose the "drop-down list". 04:36 We'll perform the same steps for the "target group" field, but this time we'll choose "radio buttons" instead of "drop-down list". 04:48 Once we generate, we get back to our web application, refresh the page and start adding a new record. 05:04 So this way our "size" field became a drop-down field and our "target group" field became a radio buttons field. 05:24 Finally, this is how our table looks like. Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. I'm always looking for new video ideas. Let me know what video you'd like for me to create. --- Video Transcript Time - 00:00 Hello. In this tutorial, you will learn how to connect to a MySQL database with Java. In this session we’re going to learn how to connect a MySQL database with Java. Before we get started there are some prep work that needs to take place. One is that you need to have a MySQL database already installed. If not, you can download one from the site listed here on the slide. Time - 00:20 Next, we’ll need to download and install a MySQL JDBC driver. This driver will allow the Java program to connect to the database. You can download it from this URL, and I’ll do that now. I’ll just take this URL, drop it into my favorite browser and here I am at the page. I’m on this page, this is for downloading the Connector/J browser. I’ll select the platform, platform independent. Now move down and I’ll select download and it will download a zip archive. Make sure you download the most recent version. In this case it’s 5.1.29. Make sure you download something at that version or later. Time - 01:04 Download, scroll down, select, “No thanks, just start my download.” This will start downloading the file for you. Now what we can do is show it in the finder. I’ll double click it to extract it. At this point I have the driver extracted. There’s a file in here called MySQL connector.jar that we’ll use later. Time - 01:34 Next, what I need to do is create a Java project in Eclipse. Let’s do that. On Eclipse I’ll say I’ll save file, new, Java project. This will be JDBC demo and I will select finish. What I’ll do is I will add a new class. New, class, this will be my driver and it will have a public static void main region. At this point we have a shell for our project created. Time - 02:28 Next, what we’ll do is we will talk to the actual development process and I really like this slide because it outlines exactly what we need to do. The first thing we’ll do is add the database driver to the classpath. Next, we’ll get a connection, we’ll submit a SQL query and then we’ll process the result set. Time - 02:48 Let’s start with step one, adding a MySQL database driver to the classpath. In our Eclipse project I’m going to add a new folder called lib, lib for library. In this lib folder I’m going to add the driver that I downloaded earlier. What I’ll do is I’ll just grab this driver. It’s the MySQL connector bin.jar and I’ll just drag and drop it to this lib folder. It will prompt me and I’ll say go ahead and copy the file. Time - 03:25 Next, I need to add the jar file, the driver to the classpath. I’ve set this up with properties, choose Java build path and then I’ll choose add jars. Expand this folder, that lib, I’ll grab that jar file and I’ll have it setup. Great. Time - 03:51 Now we can start coding. We need to get a connection, submit a SQL query and process a result set. Let me just sketch this out on a slide over here. The first thing I’ll do up top is I’ll just do an import on java.sql.* because all of the classes and interfaces that we need are in this package. Time - 04:17 I’ll also just setup a try catch block just to handle for any exception that may occur. Small typo there. Time - 04:40 Inside of this section I’m going to first get a connection to database. Then next I will create a statement. Then from here I will execute a SQL query and then I will process the result set. Time - 05:16 That’s my basic game plan, let’s fill it in with some real code. Here I’ll say connection, myConn = DriverManager.getConnection. I’ll give the jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/demo student, student. Student is the user ID and student is also the password.
