Interview of Fashion Designer - fashion designer course - Interview in English

07:30
Please watch: "Why do you want to leave your current job - Medical Representative Interview - MR job Interview" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHT7or7iEYg --~-- In fashion designer interview your outfit should be thoughtful, neat, reflect your personal style and it should tell me that you have an elevated taste level irrespective of what label you are wearing. The creative industries are famously a hotbed of emotion, tight deadlines and strong personalities so the interviewer will want to know how you would react in a high stress situation When in the interview take your lead from the interviewer’s body language as much as what they ask you. Do lots of research on the people you're scheduled to meet with, the company culture, go through their social media and look at photos of the team from the office, events, etc If your style is more vintage, stick with that. If you make your own clothes, choose a piece you made yourself

Fashion Business Plan Template: How to Start a Fashion Business Plan (in 20 mins)

23:03
Learn how to create fashion business plan in less than 20 mins instead of spending days/weeks/months creating one. How to start a fashion business? or How to start a clothing business? The first step is creating a fashion business plan or fashion business model. In the above video, we are going to learn how to create your fashion business plan in 20 mins. You must be wondering why 20 minutes, typical fashion business plan takes days/weeks to create. A perfect fashion business plan is a myth. Studies have shown that what separates successful fashion brands from unsuccessful is not the perfect plan but the ability to turn profitability before running out of resources. The way to start successful fashion business is not to spend weeks creating your perfect business plan but going out talking to your customers and modifying your fashion business model to adapt to customer’s needs. Time is a critical resource when you are starting a clothing line and you should not fall into the analysis paralysis path. Perfection is not the goal here, the goal is to create a snapshot of your initial thinking w.r.t. your customers, product, unique value proposition, revenue stream etc so you can establish a baseline as you are starting a clothing line and then modify/update it based on customer feedback. We are going to use a tool named Lean Canvas created by Ash Maurya in order to accomplish this. If you have any specific questions, please drop them in the comment and I will reply to them at my earliest convenience. What Does it Take to Be A Fashion Designer?

06:17
Click for more: http://ww2.kqed.org/artschool/ Oakland high school student Zachary Fernandez made it to the finals on the first season of Project Runway Junior, then headed straight back to Oakland School of the Arts to continue his education as a designer. His newest collection, Kathmandu, was inspired by recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Art School followed Fernandez's process as he sketched, sourced fabric, and designed his new project, revealed at a culminating fashion show in spring 2016. Hi, my name is Zachary Fernandez and I'm currently a fashion student. So I am starting my Kathmandu 2016 collection. My collection's gonna be debuting at my school fashion show, and so I have little under seven weeks to get this all put together. So our school assignment was to pick a city that we wanted to be inspired by for this collection. I ended with Kathmandu, Nepal, all of the trouble that they went through last year was really inspiring and I was able to take those ideas of imbalance and the destruction of culture and apply that to this new collection. These are the pieces that I ended up designing. They're ever-changing and they kind of just are always in flux. My sketching process involves a lot of images, a lot of mixed medias, I like to do collages, watercolors, acrylic paste, it's a real reflection of what my mind looks like. Here you have the final sketches that I've done. The sketching process for me is really a major step between just ideas and kind of this fantasy world that I've created in my mind to really functional wearable pieces. Fabric sourcing is one of my favorite things to do. It's really like a group activity, like meet a couple of friends, we'll just go, we'll explore the city, we'll get inspiration. So I'm looking for like a very pale blue that's almost like very silverish, and then I'm gonna be looking for a very deep, rust orange color. Okay, so I need to find this, but more grayish blue. The fabric store is one of those places that you go in with one idea and one concept and one thought, and you come out with like 500 more. This is it. - This is it! - This is it. - [Girl] Dude! - Hey! Yes! So I spend the majority of my time draping and it's definitely a part that will make or break a piece. I take a piece of muslin, which is just a really basic blend fabric, and I started sculpting it to the dress form. And then those mock-ups that I make of the dress form are then fitted to the model, and sometimes I try them on a model, I'm like, this is hideous, I don't know why, it just overpowers her or something happens and that leads to even better ideas and even more just, creativeness. When you design while you create, I just think it takes so much longer and you like pressure yourself so much more. So, my design mind is turned off. And it's just about sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing, and sewing. So after I finish draping, I take a part of that mockup and I totally seam rip it and I re-pattern it, and then I cut out of my real fabric. It's always really nerve-wracking 'cause a lot of times the fabric's all that you have, either the budget doesn't allow for you to get more fabric, or there's simply not anymore left. It has this like box-like structure in it. The box is actually lined with horse-hair so that it can kind of take the shape and that's why I'm kind of trying to like manipulate it right now 'cause it just takes on whatever shape you really need it to. The show, oh the show. Six days, and I'm still cutting up fabric like, I don't think that's normal. There's always going to be that last minute hurry up and finish like state of being. I have a picture in my mind about how this is supposed to go, but who knows if it actually go that way. I think that there can be a lot of different ways to read the look. Obviously you look for like the main things like color, silhouette, is this an evening piece, is this a day piece and you just kind of put the garment and choose certain categories and that really helps people read fashion out, by the time the piece is on the runway I'm already thinking about a whole new collection and I'm really thinking something totally different, but it doesn't really hit me that these people, for them it's the first time that they've seen this. I've spent months and months planning and sketching and putting it together. If I see all these different things in these pieces, but no one else does, then it's kind of sad, but then it's also part of what makes fashion art, is because people see it in so many different ways. We are in my home, studio, bedroom combination in Berkeley, California. I have this look from Project Runway Junior, which was the first episode, and this look for my most recent collection. They really mean a lot to me 'cause they show how much progress I've made within the last four, five months.

Fashion your future: Think more like a fashion designer | Suzi Vaughan | TEDxQUT

12:26
We live in times of unprecedented, disruptive change and uncertainty and most people find it challenging to thrive in those circumstances. If ‘design thinking’ is the new black, then thinking like a fashion design may just be the next big thing! This talk takes the idea of design thinking and translates it into a series of very practical tips that you can employ yourself, every day to help you think more optimistically in times of uncertainty and ambiguity. Professor Suzi Vaughan has settled (for now) in Brisbane, Australia having studied, lived and worked in Europe and Asia. After graduating from St Martins School of Art in London with a Ba Hons in Fashion, she started her professional career as a fashion designer, later moving into fashion education. Since 2011 she has been part of the executive team of a large Australian university. With over thirty years’ experience of design practice and teaching, she has become an advocate for the power and potential of design thinking. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Miuccia Prada | Fashion Designers

02:13
Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500175-Miuccia-Prada-Fashion-Designers Miuccia Prada, who currently runs the company, is the granddaughter of the founder Mario Prada. Miuccia inherited the family business in 1978. Although she's been really successful as a fashion designer and as a business woman, Miuccia Prada initially resisted joining the family business. She studied political science and actually trained as a mime after college. With her husband Patrizio Bertelli she's really expanded the focus of the Prada business. After taking the reigns at Prada, Miuccia introduced one of the most successful designs, black tote bags and backpacks made out of nylon decorated only with this small triangular Prada logo. So simple but so recognizable. The first ready to wear fashion collection was launched in 1989 and the first men's wear collection debuted in 1993. That same year she also introduced Miu Miu, the secondary line that's based on her nickname. In 1993 Prada won an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, their International Award for Excellence in Design. One of the key elements in the Prada brand has been their association and their affinity with art and in initiating art projects, Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli have really consolidated Prada's position as a conceptual brand. They've commission avant-garde artists to build their stores and they did an interesting sculpture installation in Marfa, Texas and they have a foundation that supports projects in contemporary art. So people look to Prada for conceptual fashion. A lot of Miuccia Prada's designs at first seem odd or sometimes even ugly but they're quickly adapted and become really coveted and have influenced main stream fashion.

15 MOST Luxurious Fashion Brands

11:15
From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

I believed in neutral colors.” —Giorgio Armani Synopsis Born on July 11, 1934, in Italy, Giorgio Armani is an iconic clothing designer who has expanded his empire to include restaurants and hotels. His popularity skyrocketed in America in the 1980s when his men's 'power suits' appeared frequently on the television series Miami Vice and in the 1980 film American Gigolo, which starred Richard Gere in Armani's signature garb. Early Life Designer Giorgio Armani was born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza, Italy. With his body-conscious yet understated clothing, Giorgio Armani has become one of the most popular names in fashion. He first launched his business empire in the mid-1970s, and it has grown substantially over the years. The Armani brand now includes makeup, housewares, books and hotels. The son of a shipping manager, Armani grew up in a small town outside of Milan. It was a difficult time in Italian history. Giorgio and his two siblings—older brother Sergio and younger sister Rosanna—experienced the hardships of World War II firsthand. Some of his friends were killed during Allied bombings. "We were poor and life was tough," he explained to Harper's Bazaar. "The cinema in Milan was a refuge—a palace of dreams—and the movie stars seemed so glamorous. I fell in love with the idealized beauty of Hollywood stars." At an early age, Armani developed an interest in anatomy, making "dolls out of mud with a coffee bean hidden inside," explained to the Guardian newspaper. His fascination with the human form led to two years of medical study at the University of Piacenza. Taking a break from school, Armani had to complete his required military service. He soon got his first taste of fashion. "I was doing my military service and I had 20 days off on vacation in Milan," he explained to Time magazine. Through a friend, he got a job at a department store. "I started assisting the photographer, designing the windows and things." Early Designs After completing his military service, Armani dropped out of university and went to work at La Rinascente, a famous Milan department store. He then joined the staff of Nino Cerruti as a designer. With the encouragement of his friend Sergio Galeotti, Armani started to do freelance design work for other companies as well. Armani and Galeotti became business partners, founding Giorgio Armani S.p.A. in July 1975. The company's first collection—a men's clothing line—debuted that year. Armani launched a women's collection the following year, which received a warm reception. His clothes were revolutionary at the time, introducing a more natural fit and using a subtle color palette. "My vision was clear: I believed in getting rid of the artifice of clothing. I believed in neutral colors," he later told WWD. High Demand for Armani While his designs were popular in Europe, Armani didn't make a big splash in America until 1980. His clothes were worn by actor Richard Gere in the film American Gigolo (1980), which helped generate a lot of interest in Armani. He also provided much of the wardrobe for the hit television series Miami Vice (1984-89), starring Don Johnson. Soon, many top Hollywood stars started wearing Armani on the red carpet, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Jodie Foster and John Travolta, among others. During the 1980s, wearing Armani became a symbol of success for many business professionals. They especially sought out the brand's "power suits." With demand high, Armani and Galeotti were able to grow the business, opening up Armani stores in Milan. Armani, however, suffered a great personal and professional loss in 1985 when he lost longtime friend and business partner Galeotti to AIDS. While some thought that the business might suffer after Galeotti's death, Armani showed the world that he was just as talented as an executive as he was as a designer.

How to Get Into Fashion Design Business | Fashion Sketching

01:20
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501962-How-to-Get-Into-Fashion-Design-Business-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to get into the fashion design business from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Getting into the fashion business, pretty much just dive in. One of the most important things to do first is to learn how to sew. If you don't know how to sew you don't know what goes into making and designing a garment and you can save yourself a lot of trouble. Just start sketching, just start exploring like inspiration, see what inspires you, hone in on what part of the business you want to be a part of. Find your specialty; find what makes you tick, what makes you happy, what brings you joy. You don't want to make it feel like work, you want to make it feel like joy and I'm lucky enough to have that. I've carved out my niche and I get to do all kinds of things. From couture to bridal to costuming to everything and basically it's just setting your eye on the prize and going for it and that's pretty much all the tricks to the trade. You really have to just believe in yourself, never ever let anybody knock you down, if you get knocked down stand right back up because if you don't, somebody's going to jump right up in front of you. That's just a little tidbit about getting into the fashion industry.

Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500145-Hermes-Fashion-Designers The Hermes Company was founded by Thierry Hermes in 1837 in Paris as a supplier of saddles and harnesses to a very upscale clientele. His illustrious clients included royalty and sportsmen and sporting royals. Especially people like Napoleon the Third and his very fashionable wife, the Empress Eugenie. By 1879, Hermes was in business at its present location on the prestigious Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris. The company has had a long list of illustrious clients, including The Duke of Windsor in the 20th century. Today, Hermes maintains a very exclusive clientele. People can get their purchases customized, made to order with fine leathers and even precious metals. Even though the riding gear makes up a very small part of their business now, the equestrian origins of Hermes survive in a lot of their design details. While the riding gear is really just a small part of the Hermes business, the equestrian focus still shows up in a lot of the design details that Hermes is known for. For example, their logo shows a horse drawn carriage. They have equestrian details on a lot of their bags. There scarves often show horse details or riding gear. Their classic (?) refers to a horse drawn coach. It was introduced in 1961. An, Amazon is the French word for a horsewoman. In particular, a skilled horsewoman. The printed silk ties and scarves from Hermes are status symbols. The printed scarfs were first introduced in 1937 with the French name carre, which just means a square. And, ties were introduced in the late 40s. Bringing these beautiful silk objects into their product line, in addition to the fine leathers, adds another choice for their discerning clientele.

Fashion Design Salaries

02:35
How much do fashion designers make in New York City? I talk about the average starting salary of a fashion designer in NYC. Interviewers will take into account job location, age/experience level, fashion school, and portfolio when considering whether to hire you. Stay realistic. Remember that your accomplishments normally don't dictate your position or pay level. They dictate whether you beat out the competition for that modest design position. It is competitive out there. To beat out the competition: 1. Work hard on your business relationships. Always have a few people who can give you glowing references. 2. Have a put-together portfolio. Ideally, have your portfolio resemble the work that the company does that is interviewing you. If not, they might ask you to do some sample work. But if you at least have a top-notch portfolio, this will reflect your professionalism, drive, and organization on that all-important first impression. 3. Dress to impress. Come to the interview totally put together. Clothes, shoes, hair, makeup, etc. This means different things for different people. Just make sure you are putting forward YOUR best self. Top 10 Most Famous Fashion Designers Of All Time

02:12
10. Yves Saint Laurent: Yves Saint Laurent became popular in fashion circles due to his creativity in redesigning the clothes considered to be masculine into beautiful, feminine wardrobe for women. Perhaps, one of the most famous fashion designers in France, Yves was the first one to introduce power dressing for women in the form of “power suits” in the year 1966. He is also credited with designing the men’s smoking jacket. 9. Pierre Cardin: The Italian-born Frenchman is lauded for his 20th century pieces that looked as though they were from the 25th century. As Cardin rose to fame in the age of the space race, his creations took on an air of futurism. His so-called bubble dresses had all the fixings of science fiction, combining earthly elegance with out-of-this-world colors and avant garde design. 8. Tom Ford: Tom Ford, counted among the most famous designers today, whose portfolio includes serving as a creative director for both Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci, wanted to be actor when he was growing up. He was born in Texas and even took training to be an actor. But fate had other “designs” for him. Christian Dior: Born in January of 1905, this French designer was best known for his distinctive “New Look” silhouette. The collection is so unique that it has been featured in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. 5. Donatella Versace: She is the sister of Gianni Versace. Alice + Olivia fashion designer Stacey Bendet interview

04:44
Find out how this former website designer started an $85 Million/year Fashion Empire. Stacey Bendet founded the Alice + Olivia (Alice and Olivia) clothing company in 2002. It all started with a pair of pants... While walking by a fabric store in NYC, Stacy saw a wild & funky striped upholstery fabric. She purchased a few yards of the material. At the advice of a friend, she sought out a pattern maker/seamstress and commissioned a pair of pants that were the same dimensions as her favorite pair of jeans. The result was a hip and unique pair of pants that garnered attention every time she wore them. "Everywhere I went people would stop me and say "Where'd you get those pants?"," she says. She started making them for her friends and sold to her first store after the boutique owner saw her and approached her in public and inquired about them. That was only the beginning of Alice and Olivia, now in addition to the pants, there are Alice + Olivia dresses, shoes, accessories, and even an Alice Olivia children's line. In addition to the 800+ specialty stores selling the clothing, there are 8 Alice + Olivia Boutique stores with multiple locations in New York, California, and Connecticut. Louis Vuitton | Fashion Designers

Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500158-Louis-Vuitton-Fashion-Designers Known for excellence and innovation and high quality craftsmanship Louis Vuitton was founded in Paris in 1854 by a man named Louis Vuitton. The original name of the company was Louis Vuitton Malletier which means Louis Vuitton trunk maker. That was his expertise. He was a trunk maker and a packer. And in those days being a packer was an interesting occupation. At this time upper class people would move their households for like months at a time, perhaps going to their winter place or their summer place, and they took their wardrobes with them. The fashion at the time required that you change your clothes several times a day, so their wardrobes were enormous. And also, their clothing itself was big. And so they needed these specialized boxes to put their clothing in. Not to mention hats, everybody wore hats, and so they needed special hat boxes. Louis Vuitton's clientele was very appreciative of his expertise and some of his innovations in packing. For example, he developed flat top trunks that could be stacked. The company's distinctive logo of little quatrefoil shapes and the letters was developed in 1896 and patented, because even at that early stage in the company's history people were starting to counterfeit Vuitton. Despite its association with upper class travelers Vuitton also has had a practical and rugged side. For example, during World War One they made special medicine chests and stretchers for ambulances. Two design landmarks in Vuitton history were the Keepall, developed in 1930, which really kind of set a precedent for what weekend bags are supposed to be. It's a very lightweight, flexible bag, and the Speedy, which was another design from 1930 that was redesigned in the 1960's for Audrey Hepburn and really has an association with her. The company merged with Moet Hennessy in 1987 to form LVMH, one of the most powerful luxury goods conglomerates in the world. The Louis Vuitton Company has an ongoing association with the arts. They have a corporate collection. They have commissioned pieces from contemporary artists, some of which have been displayed in the stores and in windows. And in 2006 they opened the Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton to do projects with contemporary artists. Some of the pieces they own play with aspects of the company. Lots of artists have used the Louis Vuitton logo and made variations on it. And in a nod to the company's origins, one artist decided to do a series of postcards bearing the image of the company's founder, Louis Vuitton.
