CHINA TRIP - HOW CLOTHING BRANDS ARE MADE - BEHIND THE SCENES

05:59
As many of you know, my primary line of business is Fashion design. I've been in this industry for about 13 years now. I am a current co-founder and co-owner of Vie-Riche Paris, as well as Design director at Maxima Apparel, Which houses my brand, Black Pyramid (Chris Brown's line) and also Hudson Outerwear. With that said, I recently took a work trip to China, where basically all of our development happens. People tend to take for granted the amount of work that goes behind a single garment, and I wanted to take a moment to highlight just that, with the help of a little bit of a behind the scenes video of my recent trip to China. Here's a typical breakdown of the usual process (Normal industry standard is 6-9 months....Our standard, 2-3 months, Tis why we are considered the Urban ZARA): To start off, our company is composed of about 140 employees between our NYC office and our China offices. Step 1: Concept & Design (My main role). Step 2: Design hand-off process. Once a design (or batch of designs) is approved, Us designers must break down the art (if any) on the garment, and provide our Technical design team with all details pertaining the art; a. A cad with art placement sized in the right proportion. Pantone numbers for every color in the art, and also suggested/intended form of embelishment. Step 3: Merchandising process for each and every style. This entails establishing which fabrics will be used, as well as form of embelishment (print, embroidery, patchwork, sublimation, etc.) and lastly which of our 10+ factories the specific style will be assigned to. Depending on the Step 4: Technical Design. Our Tech team will take every single style and create a multi-page breakdown for it. This is the blueprint of the garment. It details everything from fabric, to colors, to exact measurements for every single aspect of the item, as well as construction. Step 5: Our Tech Packs are then uploaded on to a server where we manually enter each style by style. On this system, every detail is also manually entered and here we assign pricing and a status log is created and followed through up until delivery of the product to our warehouse. Step 6: Sourcing for sampling. Our team in China dissects each and every item and goes out and sources our requested fabrics in specific colors/quality standards. They also source trims and any new kind of technique we request. You'll see some of this in my video below. Step 7: Sampling process. The factory creates a pattern, and using our Tech pack, they create our sample for each style. This sample is then sent out to us for inspection/commenting. Step 8: Sample review: We collaboratively review each sample and make comments on each one for our factories to implement for production. Sometimes we will request a rushed updated sample if the item requires a major change, which is typically delivered to us within a week or so. Step 9: Our samples are then handed to our sales team (One to two sales people in each region, including one Europe rep). The sales team spends the next 3-4 weeks going to stores and trade shows to collect pre-orders from all of our accounts as well as any potential new accounts. Step 10: We then asses our total pre-order sales numbers and create a 'buy' for each and every style, which we then submit to the factory for production. Our administrative team is responsible for manually entering each and every order into our system. Step 11: Production. You'll see some of this in my video. Industry standard: 90 days. Our standard: 7-30 days, depending on different variables. Step 12: Goods are inspected, packed and shipped to our warehouse in China. Step 13: Once the goods are ready to ship, our Admin team contacts each and every store that pre-ordered and confirms delivery of their order. Their order is then picked, packed and shipped directly from china to their store within 2 business days. Step 14: You, the consumer, buys it. Step 15: Repeat :) By the time this item goes on your body, it has been touched by over 100 people, and collectively, hundreds of hours have been put into the process. And thanks to our speed to market motto, we are also able to give you guys trend-relevant, innovative, high quality goods EVERY SINGLE MONTH, at a very reasonable price! It is why our three brands are preferred over all other brands in our sector. But don't take my word for it. Next time you are out at some nightclub or retail store, pay close attention to what people are wearing. I promise you that you will see our 3 brands more prominently than any other :) Thank you for taking the time to read this and appreciate the process. Hope you enjoyed and don't forget to share and subscribe to my Channel!

The Best Affordable Chinese Techwear Brands

12:08
High-performance techwear clothing from well-known brands in the scene like Acronym, ACG etc. has a reputation for being expensive. Chinese brands from Taobao offer an alternative; although the overall garment quality, water resistance and breathability will take a significant hit, they aim to capture the 'techninja' aesthetic at a much more affordable price. Do you consider these brands to have a place in techwear? Or does their aesthetic focus as opposed to functional not make them suitable as a budget alternative? Everyday people save up for months to afford the plush, extravagant outerwear, flocking to malls by the busload every winter to get their hands on one. VICE China took a deep dive inside the lucrative industry to find out why mink fur is so popular in the country, and to see how the coats get made—visiting the farms that harvest minks, the factories turning their fur into jackets, and the vendors selling them for thousands of dollars apiece. The move was made to reduce price gaps between countries, counter the decline of the euro and discourage customers from buying fakes. China Fashion Week Opens With Majority of Designers Being First Timers

02:05
Nearly 100 designers from China and abroad will display their works at China Fashion Week (A/W 2017/2018), with 60 percent of designers being first-time China Fashion Week participants. The first show presented the designing and practicability of autumn and winter fashionable dresses. According to the designer, the dresses feel more comfortable being made of silk, cotton, fiber, or wool, and show more of a sense of design with the application of various colors, including blacks, whites, camel, greens and reds. "The sense of design, including the application of materials and colors, as well as the whole designing style, fully displays the growth of self-owned brands," said Zhang Qinghui, president of China Fashion Association. As one of the most important stages of Chinese fashion, China Fashion week serves as a promotional platform for self-owned brands. "There will be more Chinese fashion designs presented at China Fashion Week, and that will tell their original fashion stories to consumers of China and the world," said Zhang Huaming, vice-president of China Fashion Association. The fashion week opened on Saturday in Beijing, and 2017 marks its 20th anniversary. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170326/8046299.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus
Skincare Brands' China Influencer Marketing Performance | Episode 8

02:30
Skincare products are of particular interest to China’s rapidly expanding middle class. We continue to see skin care products occupy a greater proportion of the overall cosmetics market. Many brands have figured out that beauty influencers are key to increasing their brand value and awareness across social media, e-commerce, and even offline. For instance, the top ranking skincare brand Shiseido regularly collaborates with a multitude of influencers at offline events. Whether it be international or domestic brands, Xiaohongshu has become the preferred online space for fashion and beauty influencers to talk about the product they love. China domestic skincare brands have seen a substantial rise in recent years, and more and more influencers are begging to share their feelings about the use of domestic skincare products. This month, @陈白羊’s post about Chinese skincare brand Unifon was the top performing post among skincare brands on Xiaohongxu. The post received 1,934 likes, 1,453 comments, and 1,015 favorites. On WeChat, influencers’ general awareness of European and American skincare brands such as Kiehl’s, Avene, L’Occitane and Clinique far outpaces local Chinese and Korean-based brands. Fashion and beauty blogger @官小炜Hellen shared in a WeChat post several skincare products that she used on a recent vacation. The brands mentioned include Kiehl’s, Sulwhasoo, and L’Occitane. The post received more than 20K reads and 1,053 likes. For JD.com’s 6.18 shopping festival, many influencers shared their personal shopping lists with their fans. Beauty blogger @Fairy菲宝 ‘s Weibo post contained several skincare and haircare products from L’Occitane. L’Occitane claimed first place on Weibo for the highest interaction rates for the month. The post received 1,027 reposts, 1,060 comments, and 2,047 likes. We hope you enjoyed the video. Don’t forget to give this video a thumbs up, leave a comment, and subscribe to our channel! When Givenchy Needs To Sell A Handbag In China, They Call Mr. Bags (HBO)

05:53
Chinese consumers buy a full third of all luxury goods sold across the globe. But they're getting sick of celebrity endorsements. That's where Mr. Bags comes in. Mr. Bags, whose real name is Tao Liang, started out as a college student studying finance. But his real passion was women's handbags, and so he started up a blog about it. The content was simple: reviews of women's handbags, advice on new trends — stuff you'd normally see in a fashion magazine. But Mr Bags struck a nerve among young Chinese who were getting bored with pushy editorials and cheesy advertising, and 4 years and 4 million followers later, he's gone from a tiny blog to being the singular most influential voice in the Chinese handbags industry. And he's not just writing about bags nowadays — he's making them. Prestigious design houses like Givenchy and Tod's have signed him up to design limited-run bags for them. To see how one 26 year old has flipped the Chinese luxury market on its head, watch the video above. Economic chill weighs on China’s appetite for luxury brands

03:01
(4 Dec 2018) The designer boutiques of Manhattan and Paris are feeling the chill of a Chinese economic slowdown that has hammered automakers and other industries. It's jolting brands such as Louis Vuitton and Burberry that increasingly rely on Chinese customers who spend 90 billion (US dollars) a year on jewelry, clothes and other high-end goods. The industry is already facing pressure to keep up as China's big spenders, mainstays for American and European retailers, shift to buying more at the spreading networks of luxury outlets in their own country. Forecasters say Chinese customers will be the luxury industry's main growth engine over the next decade. But this year, shoppers are skittish amid cooling economic growth, trade tension with Washington and weak real estate and stock markets. Even before the economy cooled, the industry was under pressure from shifts in Chinese tastes and buying habits. The incentive to shop abroad eroded as major brands opened their China stores and prices fell closer to US and European levels. Alex Bi, who was visiting Hong Kong from the mainland city of Guangzhou, said many brands have shops in first-tier mainland cities. He and his sister, Jessica, were window-shopping in the bustling Kowloon district. At the same time, Beijing stepped up efforts to reduce reliance on trade and encourage self-sustaining economic growth based on consumer spending. Import taxes on luxury goods were cut to lure shoppers home. Meanwhile, the customs agency is cracking down on informal imports by searching the luggage of travelers returning from Europe and other shopping destinations. In November, a trader was sentenced to 10 years in prison for smuggling designer clothing from Hong Kong without paying the mainland's higher import duty, according to news reports.   Market researcher Li Chengdong of Donge Investment Management Co. in Beijing said the industry was shocked by the sentence, which had an "immediate impact on the sales of the overseas retailers." Li Chengdong also said global luxury brands are not doing enough to explore the market inside China.
