We saw the Northern Lights aka Aurora Borealis in Yellowknife, Canada and it was one of the most incredible natural forces of nature I've ever seen. We were invited to travel to Yellowknife, Northern Canada by Samsung Canada to try out the new Galaxy Note8 with no obligations to create a video, but how could we not? Yellowknife made us fall even more in love with the country, when we didn't think it was possible. #DoBiggerThings #DoWhatYouCant #Canada150 **This video is NOT sponsored** Subscribe and click the bell to enable notifications for my new videos: http://bit.ly/1258Cu2 ☆ Equipment Used ☆ ↠ DJI Phantom 4 - http://bit.ly/DJIPhantom4Drone ↠ Sony A7SII - http://amzn.to/2nZogEg ↠ Sony RX100 5 - http://amzn.to/2nd7moa ↠ Sony HD Camcorder - http://amzn.to/P943IS ↠ Rhode VideoMic Pro Compact http://bit.ly/CameraRhodeMic ↠ GoPro Hero 4 http://bit.ly/SilverGoProHero4 ↠ Final Cut Pro ☾☼☮ OTHER PLACES TO FIND ME ☮☼☽ ↠ Blog - http://www.hopscotchtheglobe.com ↠ Instagram - https://instagram.com/hopscotchtheglobe ↠ Snapchat - itskristensarah ↠ Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/htglobe ↠ Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/hopscotchtheg... ◅ ▻ CONTACT ◅ ▻ ↠ Business: [email protected] ↠ Acting & Hosting Agent: [email protected] ↠ Questions: http://www.twitter.com/htglobe ✉ SEND ME MAIL ✉ Kristen Sarah Jacobson PO BOX. 30007 150 Main Street. Ride a dog sled, drive the ice road to Dettah and visit the Snowking's ice castle. Oh yeah, and see those magnificent Auroras too. 17 minutes of fun! "On you huskies!"

In Alberta, even the skies are amazing! And it’s not all because of nature. Well, mostly it is, but Alberta also has many places where light pollution is limited in order to maximize views of the night skies. You know what that means? Stunning stars, mind-blowing galaxies and the always-magical northern lights. In this series of videos, photographers Jack Fusco (@jackfusco on Instagram) and Jeff Bartlett (@photojbartlett) visit Alberta’s best dark skies winter, when aurora borealis viewing is the best, to capture the province’s stunning night skies. The results? See for yourself. In this video, Fusco and Bartlett capture Waterton Lakes National Park in the southwest corner of the province, which is part of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association as an International Dark Sky Park. On my brief vacation to Glacier National Park and Banff National Park this past fall, I was fortunate to be at the right time, right place with the right conditions to capture the aurora borealis. This was shot on early morning of September 11th, 2015. Living in Portland, Oregon, on the rare occasion that there is a strong (5kp+) geomagnetic storm, it is often blanketed by clouds or the weather is not favorable for astrophotography, period. I was very excited when prompted that there would be a clear sky in Banff and sure enough I went out and caught it. Rarely leaving the Pacific Northwest, it is seldom that I find myself in near perfect conditions such as this to shoot the auroras. I have been chasing this light for more than 4 years and at times driven over 300 miles overnight just for the opportunity to capture it. You can say I am obsessed, or dedicated. As a photographer, amateur astronomer and aspiring scientist, in addition to having a passion for the arts I am equally as inquisitive about the science behind the phenomenon. The first scene is of the Fairmont Hotel, one of Canada's grand railway hotels. It was designed by American architect Bruce Price in the style of Scottish Baronial and built between the spring of 1887 and 1888. Situated above Bow Falls at 1414 meter elevation snugged away in the Rockies, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, popular with celebrities and the general public alike. The second scene was shot at Surprise Corner in Banff, just across from the Fairmont Hotel and the third scene was shot overnight from my hotel room. Over all, there were more than 2,053 images stitched together to make the time-lapse spanning more than 4-5 hours of shooting outdoor overnight, not including the hours it takes for post-editing work. This is also part of my effort of an on-going project I am working on -- my own version of the night sky in Oregon, however, that will only include footage shot in the state of Oregon, so this will unfortunately be excluded.

Officially known as Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights are one of nature's most spectacular visual phenomena. Appearing in many forms from patches or scattered clouds of light to streamers, arcs, curtains or shooting rays, the northern lights' amazing light display can be observed in the sky of high latitude regions such as Norway or Canada. You might know the cause of this natural phenomenon (collision of solar wind and magnetospheric charged particles) but there are many more interesting facts about this unreal spectacle that are worth learning. Here are 25 of them, illustrated with some of the most amazing Northern Lights pictures you have ever seen. https://twitter.com/list25 https://www.facebook.com/list25 http://list25.com Check out the physical list here for some extra info and explanations - http://list25.com/25-interesting-facts-about-northern-lights-you-should-know-before-you-see-them/ And now for a quick preview: The most spectacular Northern Lights in recent recorded history are considered those from the "Great geomagnetic storm" on 28 August and 2 September 1859. Studies have shown that a solar storm of this magnitude occurring today would likely cause widespread problems for modern civilization. Astronauts on board the International Space Station are at the same altitude as the Northern Lights and see them from the side. The Southern Lights offer the same visual display as the Northern Lights but since the South Pole is even more inhospitable and inaccessible than the North Pole, it is more difficult to view the Southern Aurora. Therefore, the Northern Lights are more popular and get almost all the attention. There are several towns famous for their great conditions for watching the Northern Lights. In North America, the aurora tourism capital is Yellowknife (Northwest Territories, Canada), while Tromso (Northern Norway) is the same for Europe. There have been many legends about the Northern Lights. Some North American Inuit tribes call the aurora „aqsarniit“ (meaning “football players”) thinking it is the spirits of the dead playing football with a head of a walrus. The colors of the Northern Lights depend on what gas is involved and how high in the ionosphere the reaction takes place. Blue and green lights form at lower altitudes while red color comes from the highest altitudes. Auroras tend to be more frequent and spectacular during high solar sunspot activity, which cycles over approximately eleven years. The last climax was in 2013. [...]

On Thursday, September 1st, 2016 I was in a cottage at Dorcas Bay, 9 kilometres south of Tobermory and I was preparing my equipment for an astronomy observation night. The night was perfect; not too cold and with an unbelievable low humidity. I never saw the northern light before and even though they were up in the sky I didn't realized about the fantastic show that was unfolding already. I continued setting up my equipment and started taking some testing pictures for a time lapse photo I was planning to do that night. While previewing one of the pictures I couldn't believe what my camera captured: the northern lights were right there with almost all the possible colours of the rainbow: the greens, yellows, violets, pinks, fuchsias, etc. My wife was already inside the house, so I run inside and I called her to witness such an amazing spectacle. My hands were shaking of emotion and excitement of the moment. We are from a tropical country and seeing the Aurora Borealis is one the greatest experiences in our lives. The location we were at was perfect with an open sky heading north and a framing line of spruce trees in the distance that highlighted the beauty of the Aurora. No major artificial light and of course, as I planned, a perfect moonless night. We enjoyed the show for at least 3 hours at around midnight and had the opportunity to take multiple pictures using various settings and standing points. The astronomy night we planned, ended in an INCREDIBLE northern lights observation and photography night. We were able to see the waves produced by the solar wind pushing the aurora's light particles at a great speed in an amazing dance of light and colour. On Friday we prepared early and went out wishing to have a similar show. Nothing happened until approximately 12:15 p.m. when the aurora appeared again. Not as spectacular as the night before but amazing still. Perfect for a time lapse photography session that I processed as soon as I arrived back home. This second night, I set my camera closer to a small lagoon with quite waters reflecting the northern lights and thousand stars including The Great Bear Constellation. After the second night I spoke with the owner of the cottage (he lives in the cottage right beside the one I rented) and he told me that in all his more than 17 years living there he has never seen the northern lights. When he saw my pictures he jumped like a little baby (he is approximately 80 years old) and said "How have I never seen this? while they happen in my own backyard!. How dare you not wake me up! I explained to him that I thought the northern lights were a frequent spectacle there. He added: No, you are a lucky man in the right place at the right time and with the right camera. Thanks for watching!

They can be observed in dark sky areas and luckily I was in the Capital of Aurora in the World - The city of Yellowknife, Canada for 7 days to taking about 5000 shots and make this time-lapse video. I dont know how to explain my feeling when I saw it in the first time. It seemed to be a fire in dark sky and burned up the all spaces in my view. At that moment, my mind was refreshed completely and felt like flying in space with millions of stars.

Northern lights are frequently seen in the northern Canada. During my 8 month stay in the Yukon Territory, I was fortunate to witness this amazing phenomenon. These three timelapse clips were taken on my trip across the Arctic Circle in Aug. 2012. The first clip was taken in a camp ground near Dawson City. The next clip shows the Yukon river and Dawson City in the background. The final clip was taken along the Dempster Highway around Tombstone Territorial Park. Music: WHEN THE SKY TURNS BLUE by BOCrew

Northern Lights Timelapse Over London, Ontario, Canada Oct 24th 2011. South Western SW Filmed on a Canon 7D & EFS 15-85mm lens. To Capture all the colours I had to do 15 second exposures, without that you could actually only see a faint green.
