Exhibition charts history of iconic, luxury brand Herme`s
(4 Apr 2018) LEADIN: The history of iconic luxury brand Herme`s is being explored in a new exhibition in Beverly Hills. 'Herme`s Heritage: Harnessing the Roots' follows its early associations with equestrian life through to modern day high fashion. STORYLINE: The Herme`s flagship store on the prestigious Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. Now fans can come here to explore the brand's legacy at 'Herme`s Heritage: Harnessing the Roots', the first episode in a series of touring 'Herme`s Heritage' exhibitions. The first exhibit highlights the history of the house, founded in 1837 by Thierry Herme`s, from its origins as a harness-maker and saddler to becoming the world famous luxury brand it is today. From 31 March until 7 April 2018, this first of four exhibitions focuses on harnesses and their metamorphoses into modern leather goods, clothing, scarves, jewellery and more. Horses have always been at the heart of the Herme`s brand identity. The exhibit shows how various buckles and clasps were initially conceived by Herme`s to equip a horse's saddle or harness. This evolution from equestrian goods played a major part in its designs over the years and continues into modern day. The objects in the exhibition are from the E´mile Herme`s Collection, a selection of treasures located at the Herme`s flagship store at 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honore´ in Paris. They were also provided by the house's Conservatory of Creation Collection and other contemporary fashion, lifestyle and accessories collections. Charlotte David, Executive Vice President of Communications for Herme`s Group, calls it a glimpse into what made the brand what it is today. "The overall idea of the exhibition is to show and reveal some objects coming from our museum which are part of our DNA, part of our identity and our inspiring current collections," she says. The exhibit is broken up thematically rather than in chronological order. It is housed in the store but then seamlessly continues in a newly built separate structure directly behind. There are five rooms with the themes of: 'Brides de Gala', where an archival documentary from 1962 plays in which Robert Dumas, heir and director of Herme`s from 1951 to 1978, explains the original art of saddle-making. 'Horse and its Tack' (Le cheval et son habit) comes next showing how horses were at the heart of the Herme`s identity when it started creating fashion in 1925. 'The Saddle' (Le motif de la selle) is next telling the story of the art of saddlery and how it's a very detailed exercise in quality and elegance at the house. Today an Herme`s saddle is considered a masterpiece in structured leather. 'Buckled up' (En boucles) is the next part of the exhibition showing how buckles have also been a key element at Herme`s and how its jewellery making is a self-imposed exercise in perfection applied in its workshops. Ties and Straps (Lanie`res) is the final room which highlights ties, straps and other fasteners. Menehould de Bazelaire, Artistic Director of the Cultural Patrimony of Herme`s says it all comes back to equestrian life and that Herme`s is always in motion just as the horse is. "This exhibition pays homage to the first customer, the horse, because it's always a contemporary customer for us," she says. Kathy Davoudi-Gohari, President of Rodeo Drive Committee says exhibitions from grand design houses such as this one put Rodeo Drive at the forefront of luxury fashion. The second instalment of Herme`s Heritage will focus on colour and will be launched later in 2018, again somewhere in Los Angeles. VICENZAORO 2013 Exhibition Spring 2013 HD by Fashion Channel
VICENZAORO 2013 Exhibition Spring 2013 HD by Fashion Channel VICENZAORO Fall, Fiera di Vicenza's International jewellery show, which brought together 1200 Italian and foreign brands from 30 countries, is over. Preceded by About J, an invitation-only event that welcomed 34 selected Italian and foreign jewellery designer brands to Venice, for a whole week VICENZAORO provided a complete shop window of new ideas in the world of jewellery and of the ranges of fashion jewellery that will be seen at the end-of-year festivities. VICENZAORO Fall strengthened the expectations that were aroused by the About J preview, where international buyers and top Italian retailers showed a solid business orientation. This attitude continued also during the exhibition held in the Vicenza fairgrounds that was visited by buyers from 111 countries, with particular regard to the Euro Zone, Central and Eastern Europe, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Asia with particular reference to China and North America. Worth mentioning is the 'return' of some Italian retailers, an encouraging sign considering the much-desired end of the most critical phase of the recession. The final data record the attendance of 7,160 visitors from abroad, while the Italian attendance data reached 10,879 visitors. The September edition of VICENZAORO confirms the signs of recovery in international demand, already remarked in the early months of 2013. For the first time, after two years of negative signals, the second quarter of 2013 showed a positive result for Italian exports of jewellery (ISTAT data) that have grown in terms of both value (+6%) and quantity (+2.6%) over the same period of the previous year. Particularly significant is the growth in exports to the United States (+12% in value) and to the United Arab Emirates (+32% in value). We will see if this trend will continue also in the final months of the year. Among the industry players there is an atmosphere of moderate confidence. It is now taken for granted that the future of the Italian jewellery business and its areas will be played out on an international stage. During the September edition of VICENZAORO, Fiera di Vicenza has further strengthened its network of international partnerships by signing an important agreement with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in view of a strengthening of the Italian presence at the edition of March 2014 of the Hong Kong international Jewellery Show, and by starting a new partnership with the Armenian Jewellery Association, which owns the leading international jewellery exhibition in the Eurasian country. Already included in the international calendar of VICENZAORO and T-GOLD International, is the appointment of next December at the Dubai International Jewellery Week, which is particularly important, given that the United Arab Emirates are the second largest export market of the Italian jewellery. VICENZAORO Fall 2013 was, first and foremost, the starting point for a new vision of the relationships between Fiera di Vicenza, gold and jewellery businesses, and the economic categories. The Trade Show Company, international leader in the organisation of Jewellery Shows, took care to listen to the different voices in the sector so as to fully understand the needs of client-firms and to support their development. The President, Paolo Mantovani, wants to mark his mandate with a flag of dialogue and sharing. He therefore gave entrepreneurs a direct involvement, with them taking a leading role in the two "VICENZAORO Meets" evenings, from which needs, expectations, suggestions and incentives emerged. London College of Fashion: Exhibition space
After the huge success of their interactive table at last year's Fashion Week, London College of Fashion reappointed Moving Brands to design this year's Graduate Fashion Week stand at the Battersea Park Arena. Briefed to reuse, recycle and reclaim LCF's existing print materials, we designed and built a unique, innovative 4-meter moiré paper projection cube and one-off furniture, using 2006 LCF graduate year books and prospectuses as building material. The resulting experience was a skilful optical illusion: a static environment that appeared to move as visitors walked past, inviting them into a space in which they were enveloped in a world of fashion as they were shown the latest catwalk and LCF showreels. The cube was a resounding success and won the Dalziel & Pow Stand Design Award for the best of show.

See what brands DO belong in a museum... Transcript: Is fashion modern? Are brands art? The Museum of Modern Art aims to answer those questions in a new exhibition of garments and accessories, and the American Marketing Association New York is here to share some of the iconic designs in this much-anticipated show, that is wall-to-wall with well-known brands. It's been over 70 years since the MoMA’s last foray into fashion. Past curators just didn't consider it art. A walk through this newly opened and ground-breaking exhibit, however, suggests they were wrong. The exhibition takes up the entire 6th floor of the building on West 53rd. Move over Picasso and Van Gogh, and make space for Dockers khakis, Lululemon yoga pants, Snuglis and fanny packs. But that is not to say the exhibition is not without standards of cool like Ray Bans, Levis, a Prada backpack, and Calvin Klein briefs. Speaking of underwear, what about the life-changing WonderBra and Spanx. And shoes! There are plenty of them on exhibit, from the commonplace flipflop to the anti-establishment Doc Martens. And you've got Converse All Stars and Nikes, Tevas, and Moon boots. The MoMA presents each item within a context that includes function, style, technology, and cultural identity. From the luxury of the Hermes Birkin Bag to working-class Woolrich flannel shirt, from the fun of Lily Pulitzer to the politics of Colin Kapernick, the show is expansive, both historic and up-to-the-minute. The 111 pieces in the exhibit were culled from hundreds of potential items; selected for the strength of design, pioneering use of materials, and cultural impact. It is impossible to tell the story of design without talking about fashion. Some brands do belong in a museum. And that's brilliance in marketing.
Karl Lagerfeld - fashion designer and icon | DW Documentary
Karl Lagerfeld - the name stands for much more than just fashion. What makes the fashion icon so successful? Who’s the man behind the sunglasses? Designer, artist, fashion icon, also known as "Kaiser Karl." No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, is as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses will celebrate his 85th birthday - it’s believed. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments are notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld works in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. London College of Fashion: Graduate Show
The London College of Fashion commissioned Moving Brands to conceive, design and build the Graduate Portfolio Exhibition. The problem: How to show up to 500 students work. The solution: Use a digital approach and house it within a 'library' setting. Each student is represented by a post-card sized tag which is located on a wall, on the back of each card is a unique pair of identifier tags, so when the card is placed on one of the four tables the student's work is revealed. This system was developed using opensource software reacTIVision & Processing - it is the first time that either has been used in this way and on this scale.
