NOTE: Permission was given to shoot onboard by ship's management. All footage was taken onboard a superyacht. People generally only see these yachts from a distance, from the outside. They are generally draped in secrecy as owners are very private. This hopefully gives you an idea of what it's like to sail/work onboard. Please note I cannot shoot inside the yacht in guest areas. March 2017 Out of season sailing in the Mediterranean can mean big seas and gale force winds... We sail from Gibralter to Calpe, Mediterranean Spain, experiencing both of the above along with discovering some beautiful anchorages along the way. (sorry about the shaky camera work and wind noise...it was very windy and our camera is a bit crap!) Arved Fuchs and his team on their most recent expedition across the North Atlantic begins on the 80-year-old sailing ship "Dagmar Aaen", from Greenland's west coast, via Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ireland and Scotland to the North German coast. It is a journey full of unforgettable experiences: unspoilt nature, rugged coasts, remote islands and extraordinary people who live with and off of the sea. For more than 30 years, German Arved Fuchs has undertaken ships expeditions to the most remote regions of our planet. He is mostly attracted to ice. There, on the west coast of Greenland, the cutter Dagmar Aaen, spent seven long winter months. This is where the five part series begins, which will come to an end after 12.000 nautical miles (ca. 22.000 kilometres) and more than four months later in the native North Sea.

More about the pirate scare! Please comment and let us know what you would do in the case of a pirate attack out at sea. The next 150nm of ocean until we reached the Galapagos Islands was quite enjoyable. We saw the most incredible things in the water, I started hearing things and Riley got a tiny little crab in his ear after scraping the hull. Each day we spend on the water these days seems to be full of surprises. As the sun was rising, I spotted the island of San Cristobal. Seals galore. They stuffed up my salad (A SALAD) and the world gets to see grumpy Elayna. Muddy shoe walkers leaving muddy tracks onboard. Surrounded by bird watching/explorer humans in cargo gear. I wonder what adventures tomorrow may bring. Thanks for watching, and for those on Patreon supporting my art. Extreme storm - Omens Tell Tales with ships as monster storm explodes in early winter storm. West Coast shuts down with Columbia River Bar and California as Storms the freaks of nature show their power. Mature storms are the most powerful events on the planet. In one day unleashing the equivalent force of the world's nuclear arsenals. Given time these loose canons on the ocean's deck give quarter to no vessel. These sea battles never decide who's right only who's left. As sailors in little boats the size of life boats. We don't have the luxury of hiding 100' up in comfy enclosed watertight wheelhouses. Or lounges on 1,000' ships manned 24/7 on all decks. We are literally part of the storm itself. Seemingly lost in between swells dealing with the waves and ripples there. We are in the trenches battling a monster that never sees us. Even when we have crew it's most always a solo operation. How we strategically navigate prior to the monster's arrival. Then keep on thru the dark night wrestling the beast will determine just how soon and if we live to see another day. How do we get here? Over the years we get a little dinghy and go for a stroll in the Pacific Ocean. The Columbia River bar reopens after being closed to an early winter storm. At most I have a 3 day window to voyage South clearing the rugged stormy terrain of the Pacific Northwest. That's impossible. On the Mighty Saint-Lawrence, just off shore from Sainte-Anne-Des-Monts Quebec, a luxury yacht makes way in rough seas, plunging and rocking and sticking out of the water, what a rough ride in such a fine looking yacht A little info about this section of the Fleuve Saint-Laurent (seen in the video) This is the "mouth section" of the Mighty Saint-Lawrence, the Spillway from the great lakes and most of Eastern Canada, in front of my home, it becomes the Gulf, the inland Sea... This Gulf of Saint-Lawrence / Golfe Saint-Laurent carries an underwater super-highway from the Atlantic entrance between Nova-Scotia and Newfoundland. It is an opening (one of few), for the ocean currents to flow. The other opening to the Atlantic is to the upper end of Newfoundland, squeezing into the strait of Labrador and then out into the famous Outer Banks. The Super Highway runs close to shore at this point in the river system, that deep channel goes upriver from here to the Fjord du Saguenay, at the fjord it ends... then the Fleuve Saint-Laurent flows much shallower and the salt content drastically drops and fades away around Quebec city. As for the powerful Fjord, it brings with it such rich nutrients from the high country that it has become the feeding grounds to thousands of sea creatures, big and small... This yacht was close to shore, but still in deep troubled waters that run deep. for more photos and videos from this part of the country, please follow me, My website, come in for a few and view a few. http://danbythesea.com/ Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PhotographyDanByTheSea/ And please Subscribe before you go... While crossing the Strait of Bonifacio in late September 2015 on our Oyster 53 sailing yacht, we encountered Force 9.5 sustained (40-50 knot) winds and 20-25 foot (7-8 meter) seas. We expected 38 knots while threading the needle between two storm systems, but instead... we got a little more. Please enjoy the ride! This is my own footage from the last voyage of the Clipper 60 Clyde Challenger from St Lucia to Scotland after being hit by a severe storm five days out from the Azores the boat was knocked down and dismasted with myself and 13 crew on board 40 hours at the mercy of the North Atlantic with only a handheld VHF for communications. After a failed rescue attempt by the merchant ship CPO Finland we were rescued by the Royal Navy's destroyer HMS Dragon which deployed a 24ft rib to transfer us off the boat. Due to the damaged sustained in the storm and attempted rescue the Clyde Challenger was unseaworthy and if left would be a danger to shipping so it was decided jointly by the boat owner and insurance company to scuttle her.

Explored a bit of beautiful (but crazily windy) Gibraltar, but couldn't wait to get back out on the water again.. We couldn't have asked for a better exit out the Gib Strait, with the wind and waves behind us we sat on an average of 7 knots with just the head sail out (plus catching two tuna..). Apart from being becalmed for two days and Riley mentioning how he 'wished he had an asymmetrical spinnaker' over 452,899 times, the 6 day passage went rather well. Now to island hop the Canary Islands, and then make our way down to Cape Verde! Enjoy the vid! Stay tuned for more video's. Ps. The passages between islands are now on average of about five days each. The weather forecast is ummm.... unpredictable. The passages have been wet, wild and fast! We are well away from civilization out here. Hundreds and hundreds of miles from anything except for this mostly submerged reef they call Beveridge Reef. These reefs are a welcome sight as really help break up the longer passages! And yes, it seems that sometimes at night they are impossible to see. The story of the Catamaran wreck at Beveridge happened in the middle of the night. A full speed collision forcing a British Family onto the reef. Ripping off the sail drives and rudders leaving gaping holes in the aft. But luckily another boat resting inside heard the calls for help via the radio. When morning came they were able to get off the boat and tow it inside the atoll where it rests now half-submerged. As we get further into this season we sail deeper and deeper into the remote reaches of the South Pacific. The further we go, the more adventure we find. More than we could have ever imagined. Sign up on our Blog: http://findingparadise.ca In this action packed movie we head out from the beautiful kitesurfing island of Aitutaki. A destination only available to a limited number of yachts due to the very narrow and shallow entrance. Yup, we do bump bottom on the way out. But with a bit of throttle we manage to brute force our way over the sandy sill. Now lets talk about the fishing. Since leaving the Marquesas the fishing has been hit and miss. Mostly miss. All of French Polynesia was mostly a drought on our freezer. But things started to suddenly get interesting with several bent hooks. Several line breaks within seconds. What sort of monsters are down there? Massive massive Yellowfin Tuna! The Rolex Spirit of Yachting film series features 25-minute documentaries of the leading regattas and racing events on the international sailing agenda. This episode zooms in on the 38th Rolex Middle Sea Race, organized by the Royal Malta Yacht Club. Of the 104 starters only 35 crossed the finish line off Valletta, Malta having successfully conquered the 606-nautical mile race’s challenging and diverse weather conditions. The Russian-crewed Bogatyr, a JPK 10.80 – one of the smallest boats in the fleet – took the overall win, while George David’s Rambler 88 was first to finish on the water for the third year running. Two notable performances duly rewarded at the final prizegiving with Rolex timepieces and a place in the history books.

Not all yacht are born equal. Most simply enginnered to allow movement between marinas and for occasional enjoyment at sea. At Canados however, 67 years experience in manufacturing the finest custom yachts has driven us to rethink this perception. The result? Our new 120' Enhanced. The behind this extraordinary yacht was to create a genuine leisure and lifestyle platform, where luxury, extreme comfort and communion with the sea are fused is one astonishing design. The Canados 120' Enhanced truly represents a new experience in yachting where every parameter of an owner's expectations has been considered and adressed.
