Facts about seahorse This video from sciencewithkids.com shows different facts about the seahorse. Seahorse are fish. A seahorse has 3 main fins. Seahorse also have a 4th tiny fin just below their belly. Seahorse use their fins to help stabilize their body. Even though a seahorse moves its fins very fast, they are not fast swimmers. Seahorse have tails. Seahorse use their tails to grab things. Their tails help them stay in one place even if the water is moving around them. A seahorse has a neck. Most fish do not have a neck. Are seahorse vertebrates or invertebrates? Do they have a backbone? Yes, seahorse have a backbone so they are vertebrates. Seahorse do not have ribs. Instead seahorse have protective rings that extend all the way down into their tails. Seahorse have gills on each side of their head to extract oxygen from the water. This is how they breathe. Seahorse have excellent eyesight to help see predators. Seahorse live in 3 main habitats. They live around sea grass beds. Seahorse live around mangrove tree roots. They also live in coral reefs. All three of these locations provide protective cover from rough water and cover to help them blend with their surrounds. A seahorse does not travel far during its lifetime. A male seahorse only lives in an area about 1 square meter in size. Seahorse eat tiny shrimp and fish. Seahorse have to eat most of the day because they do not have a stomach. Birds, sharks, rays and crabs eat seahorse. Many seahorse can change their color to blend in with their surroundings. Thanks for watching. http://www.thedeep.co.uk Filmed at The Deep, Hull, Yorkshire. The world's only submarium is home to over 3500 fish, including sharks and rays. As you may know, it is the male seahorse that incubates the eggs and then gives birth. This was filmed a while ago in our quarantine when our pair of Custom seized seahorse gave birth. There are many illegally imported seahorses. When they are discovered by Customs and Excise, London Zoo aquarium at ZSL help out by housing and taking care of them. There were so many this time they could not take them all. We were able to help out by taking this mature breeding pair. Many seahorses are on the IUCN Red list classified as VULNERABLE and have shown population declines of 20% over the last 10 years. Many species haven't enough information about them to be able to manage their exploitation. Project Seahorse is an orgainisation that serve as the formal IUCN Redlist authority on seahorses. They also pioneer many different schemes to help reduce these population declines. Using holistic approaches involving local people, communicating with major consumers and developing socio-economic solutions to the threats, Project Seahorse are at the forefront of seahorse conservation. Spot feeding my two Kuda Seahorses. My feeding station broke, so until I get another one and teach them how to use it all over again, I need to spot feed. Nova has been pregnant now for about 30 days... Normally the longest gestation period is 45 days. a lot of the times they are a LOT shorter than this (some even being only 15 days!) but I keep my tank pretty cold, which slows down the pregnancy. In the future I'll do a seahorse keeping how-to video. I just wanted to upload some cute content featuring these babies. Tomorrow I'm going to the store I purchase my seahorses from....hoping to get more maybe!?? I'd love to add some different seahorses to this tank, primarily either different colored Kudas or some Erectus. It's ok to mix species of Seahorses, you just have to be EXTREMELY careful. Wildcaught is always a no-no, they carry so many potential diseases that not only will kill them in a matter of months but spread to your seahorses as well. Captive bred is always the safe route, why would you want to take seahorses from the wild anyways!? Thank you guys for the 24,000 subscribers! I love you all so much all the support means so much to me! Beautiful Seahorses at the Sea Life Aquarium Benalmadena, Spain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgH11gGuJHg Seahorse is the name given to 54 species of marine fishes in the genus Hippocampus. Sea Life Aquarium is located in Puerto Marina (Sea port of Benalmadena https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2GyNRjwO5I ) Muraena https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8v5CAcQjGg Scientific classification: Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Chordata, Class: Actinopterygii, Order: Syngnathiformes, Family: Syngnathidae, Subfamily: Hippocampinae, Genus: Hippocampus 8 Cool Facts About Seahorses Seahorses are one of the most intriguing species of marine life. There are no other creatures like them on the planet, and people of all ages are amazed by how these animals look, behave, and move beneath the waves. There are around 53 different individual species of seahorses in the world, and they all look different from one another, but they do share the same characteristics that make them seahorses after all. 1. Male Seahorses Take Care of the Offspring The way seahorses reproduce is very different from how the vast majority of other species procreate. When they’re ready to mate, the female seahorse will deposit her eggs into the male’s pouch, which is found in his abdomen. She can leave up to 50 eggs there. It’s up to the male to carry those eggs until they’re ready to be born. This allows the female’s body to begin producing more eggs right away, which ensures that she’ll be able to mate again sooner rather than later in order to keep the species alive. Once the babies hatch, they’re released from the male’s abdomen. They’re fully formed babies, and every mating can result in up to 1,500 seahorses. 2. They Don’t Look Like Fish, But They Are Seahorses may not look anything like your typical fish, but they actually are classified as fish. Characteristics that make them fish include a swim bladder to control buoyancy, gills to breathe, and fins to propel them through the water. Every seahorse has a fin on its back, which it uses to propel itself through the water. Pectoral fins located close to the back of the head are what the animal uses to actually steer itself in the right direction. 3. Seahorses Love to Eat Seahorses really love to eat. They feed almost constantly on tiny fish and plankton. The reason that they have to keep eating all the time is because their digestive systems work so quickly. Food passes right through them, so they need to continue consuming in order to stay alive. In fact, they can consume up to 3,000 brine shrimp in one day. Unlike other species, seahorses don’t have teeth or a stomach, so their digestive processes are very unique. 4. They Mate for Life Seahorses find a companion that they’ll stay with for life. They’re monogamous creatures, meaning they only mate with one other seahorse for their entire lives. Their unique courtship includes dancing with one another, displaying a variety of colours, swimming alongside one another, and spinning around each other. This can last up to 8 hours. 5. Seahorses Take Advantage of Camouflage to Survive These creatures are experts at hiding themselves amidst the coral reefs where they live. Some species can actually change the colour of their bodies to blend in, while others are already built with the right colour, shape, size, and texture to blend in perfectly with the corals. 6. They Use Their Prehensile Tails a Lot Seahorses are actually pretty bad swimmers. What makes them really different from other swimmers in the sea, however, is that they swim upright. And when storms hit, these delicate creatures can actually become so exhausted that they can die as a result. But they’re really good at anchoring themselves to corals and grasses, thanks to their prehensile tails that allow them to stay steady and eat despite strong currents. When fighting over mates, territory, or food, seahorses use their powerful tails against one another as their main weapons. But when they get along, pairs of seahorses can be seen swimming together with their tails linked. 7. Even Though They’re Fish, They Don’t Have Scales Seahorses do not have any scales. Instead, they have an exoskeleton that consists of hard plates that are fused together. Seahorse Not all Seahorses are fish 8. Their Eyes Work Independently of One Another Seahorses have a great sense of sight. Their eyes can work independently of one another as well so they can be aware of their surroundings at all times. In other words, while one eye is looking forward, the other can be looking behind. bookyourdive.com Music soundcloud.com/slofan/relax

The Seahorse Man is the fascinating, heartbreaking but ultimately hope-affirming story of the charismatic Irish marine biologist Kealan Doyle and his dogged attempt to save an extraordinary species from extinction. Filmed on location in Connemara, Dublin, China and Indonesia, this is a business story with a decided twist - despite his lack of commercial experience, Doyle emerges as a uniquely driven individual. i know that is such a common title for videos on youtube sorry for being so generic. My seahorse Nova had gotten pregnant only for the pregnancy to go wrong, causing him to have a miscarriage or some would say abortion since I pushed the babies out... why is my life so relatable? ------ nova is still going strong, in my next video I'm going to talk about a website where you can track my aquarium builds more closely! should be getting my 105 here any day now. I'll also be filming my seahorse tank build in addition to my 105 tank build, and have an update on my 20 gallon freshwater here soon! so many different builds going on at once, been crazy over here. The new seahorse tank will be drilled and I'm getting a sump, I'm tired of all the HOB units and feel like the tank can be improved with some better filtration and a better UV sterilizer and skimmer. ----------- Send me something for my monthly Subscriber Sunday videos, leave your name and/or your twitter/instagram/youtube name with whatever you send if you'd like to, I will give you credit for anything you send in then video!!! A short animated film about a seahorse with an inquisitive nature. It is aimed at 2-7year olds. If you are a parent with kids please leave a comment. Technical ========= It is created in Blender using the Freestyle branch. The only elements not done in Blender are the Jellyfish which were done in Lightwave. This was due to technical issues with Freestyle at the time which are probably fixed now. It is all 3D and rendering in what is called a Cel-shading style. jamestcampbell.com

Off the coast of Dubai is a new style of house like no other. On this episode we’ll take a look at the seahorse house. Inspired by the impact it’ll have on the environment, specifically seahorses, this luxury home called the seahorse house is one floating at sea. Apart of the world Islands, a massive oceanic construction project in Dubai, this home spans from the seafloor up to two levels above sea level. It’s named after seahorses as it comes with an artificial reef which will help replenish the endangered seahorse population. A 131 homes have already been purchased at a price tag of $3.3 million. The home is essentially a boat with no motor weighing more than 2000 tons. This three-level unit has a master bedroom, guest bedroom, master bath and guest bath on the bottom underwater floor with ocean view through the massive windows. Now the first thing I thought when I saw the artist renderings of the underwater view from the bedroom is that it would actually cloudy and you won’t be able to see any fish, but here's a real view from the first house put in the water that shows the actual view it’s quite impressive. The second level has a kitchen, living room, outdoor lounge with built-in lounge hammock, bathroom and shower facilities. The upper level features a glass bottom Jacuzzi an additional shower facility and an outdoor lounge area that can be converted into an outdoor bedroom for which you can sleep under the stars. That's pretty sweet. There is currently 40 of these houses in production that measure 4004 ft.² or 372 sq meters in size. They’re highly customizable to your needs, then again at $3.3 million you’d hope so. Currently when you buy one of these houses, you get a boat for free. These villas are being built as a part of the heart of Europe section of the world Islands. Eventually they'll have a bunch of walkways connecting the villas and connecting it to a beach. Until then, you can need a boat to get your villa. Now what I want to know is, would you guys buy one of these houses, if you had $3.3 million? Let me know the comment section below. A seahorse villa (also sometimes known as a floating seahorse villa) is a type of a patented dwelling enclosure that is half-submerged in water, usually a clear-water, coastal part of a sea. In a typical seahorse villa, the part which is submerged underwater is usually the master bedroom and the one that is above the water is the drawing room and kitchen and water closet. It was first designed by Dubai-based real estate developer firm Kleindienst. A seahorse villa is named after the rare sea creature and is aimed at attracting them both for decorative and preservation purposes. Seahorse villas are commercially a part of the Heart of Europe, a hotel development project, which aims at protecting the The World islands, by providing a major development that jumpstarts building on its other sandy islands. Tiny and delicate, pygmy seahorses survive by attaching to vibrant corals where they become nearly invisible to both predators and researchers. Now, biologists at the California Academy of Sciences have successfully bred them in captivity for the first time. Finally, they're able to study the seahorses' amazing act of camouflage up close. SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK: a new ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Get a new perspective on our place in the universe and meet extraordinary new friends. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. * NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER TUESDAY! * Over the summer, biologists from the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco returned from an expedition to the Philippines with some very rare and diminutive guests, a mating pair of pygmy seahorses. Pygmy seahorses live their entire adult lives attached to a type of coral called a Gorgonian sea fan. The seahorses use their long tails to grab on to the delicately branched sea fans. But what’s really amazing is their ability to match the coral’s bright color and knobby texture. They blend in so perfectly that they are barely visible, even to a trained eye. Pygmy seahorses are nearly impossible to raise in captivity. Until recently, there was no record of the seahorses ever living long enough to breed in an aquarium. As a result, very little is known about them, making them extremely attractive to researchers eager to learn about the mysterious species. The Gorgonian sea fan is itself an animal, distantly related to jellyfish and anemones, and is very difficult to raise in tanks. But these seahorses cannot live without the them. How do seahorses mate? They do a courtship dance during which the female puts her eggs in the males brood pouch. How do seahorses give birth? Like other seahorses, it is the male pygmy that rears the offspring in his brood pouch, releasing groups of offspring every two weeks. Check out an additional video from the Cal Academy: http://goo.gl/QhAf0T Find out more about pygmy seahorses: http://blogs.kqed.org/science/2014/10/21/pygmy-seahorses-masters-of-camouflage/ Created by KQED Public Media in San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios.
